About Me
I'm a university student with an eclectic taste in movies. I can't stand lazy acting, cliche'd screenplays and movies whose sole focus is to make money. I like movies that have something profound to say without shoving it down the audience's throat.

Requiem for a Dream 1. Requiem for a Dream NC-17 5.0 Stars
What makes this movie so riveting is its haunting atmosphere. With a dark and melancholy tone, it is like Edgar Allen Poe on screen. Requiem for a Dream literally gives me goosebumps every time I watch it. Never has a movie impacted me as profoundly as this one. Never has a movie taken my breath away to the extent that this one does, no matter how often I see it. Aronofsky is irrefutably a brilliant film-maker; his style is innovative, gripping and glaringly unique. The music score in this film is spine tingling, enrapturing, and powers the engine of this mind boggling piece of work. This movie could be called a tragedy and it could be called a horror; it functions as both on so many levels. What I call it is the most masterful piece of work I have ever witnessed. Profound. Awe inspiring. Thank you, Aronofsky. You are the rarest kind of genius. This movie is a level above anything else out there.
GoodFellas 2. GoodFellas R 5.0 Stars
The most fun I've ever had watching a movie. Delightful, wicked, hilarious, and dark. What a brilliant and innovative way to tell a story. A true Mafia epic, this film captures the glamor, the glory and the consequences of Mafia life. I can't get enough of it. Great casting choices as well. Pesci is unbelievable, and earned every bit of his Academy award. Liotta is the ideal choice for the story's protaganist; his persona is played to perfection. This movie made me a man. I gotstta!!!!!!
Gone With the Wind 3. Gone With the Wind G 5.0 Stars
The greatest love story ever told. Emotionally riveting and powered by superb performances.
The Godfather 4. The Godfather R 5.0 Stars
There's a reason this movie is on so many top lists. Powerful, compelling, and fascinating.
The Exorcist 5. The Exorcist R 5.0 Stars
This is the way horror movies were meant to be made. Gruesome and terrifying, it kept my heart rate up until the final minute.
Half Nelson 6. Half Nelson R 5.0 Stars
An intense movie, loaded with subtlety and stripped of melodrama. Gosling delivers an admirable performance as a tortured young teacher whose life is going nowhere. I love everything about the character: how he tries to inspire kids and is bothered by his own hypocrisy, his need for intimacy and his inability to handle a relationship, his repression. The character is a masochist, and it's hard to watch, but also beautiful. The most poignant scene is when one of his students sees him at a party, and sells him cocaine. As for the ending: it isn't bad, just slightly underwhelming. I cared so much about Dan Dunne that I wanted a few more hints about where his life might go. Overall, this is one hell of a movie. A heart wrencher.

Best film of 2008 so far and the best superhero film ever. Heath Ledger is certain to be nominated and will probably win for his truly mad performance as the joker. Yet there is Method to his Madness, this crazed character does make sense in his own twisted thinking. The film more than the original poses some extreemly difficult ethical questions concerning right and wrong, hero and villian, questions that are not nescessarily answered. Once again Nolan has redfined the comic book genre and has continued the most original and masterly film series out today. See this film!

One of my favourite films of 2008. A spectacularly fun movie experience, that will have you dancing in your seats, when I saw it people actually got up to dance at the end of the film. Meryl Streep, the greatest actress alive, owns this movie an just and has a ball with it. In fact although the plot is corny and unbelievable it doesn't matter as the film never takes it self seriously even for a moment, it just fun and the movie as a result is just so much fun. Whether or not your an ABBA fan or even a musical fan this film will put a smile on your face. It easily will be considered this year's Hairspray.

    Hancock Hancock
0.5 Stars by Vmedia Berkeley Ca.
It's hard to make heads or tails of "Hancock." At times the movie seems like an overcooked cinematic concoction. At other times, it appears to be half-baked.

So, despite having a few "wow" moments, this is one of the more frustratingly inconsistent movies in recent memory.

Of course, that inconsistency might be more forgivable if the film were a low-budget "indie" instead of a big-budget summer spectacular. And it might not be so noticeable if the film didn't star Will Smith, a usually reliable performer.

His last really big commercial and critical dud was "Wild Wild West," nearly 10 years ago. Fortunately, this film isn't nearly that bad.

As played by Smith, the title character is super-strong, seems to be invulnerable and has the ability to fly.

And though he has used those powers to fight crime, he's also irresponsible and thoughtless, and his actions have caused considerable property damage. So he's very unpopular with the public.

So, it's no wonder the cast appears to be confused. Smith is a little tentative, as is Charlize Theron, who plays Ray's wife ? and is hiding a pretty big secret from him.
this won't be om screens long.. wait for DVD

The Dark Knight The Dark Knight
5.0 Stars by Vmedia Berkeley Ca.
I saw a screening this past weekend .. and this is sure to make some fans pleased.

Heath Ledger's final performance is one to remember him by. Los Angeles-area critics got an early press screening Thursday night (luckies), and the best-supporting-actor campaign has already begun.

Batman Begins told audiences and film critics it is possible to root a comic book generated superhero in reality. Earlier this year Iron Man set out to do the same but lost its balance in the final act. The Dark Knight manages to exceed expectation with a villain so maniacal, his desire for destruction begins to make sense to the point you understand his desire for all out anarchy while you are cheering for the opposition in a war that basically boils down to one side against individual terrorism.

The sound track alone stands on its own as an amazing score.
In terms of comic book film adaptations this is the pinnacle. The argument saying this is the Godfather Part II of comic book movies would insinuate that Batman Begins is on equal terms with the original Godfather, which is far from true. However, if we could call this The Godfather of comic book movies I wait anxiously for what may/will become the film that caps off the trilogy.

    Cassandra's Dream Cassandra's Dream
    4.0 Stars by A
After Match Point, director Woody Allen started a new era, and it can be seen in this film. The plot is great, with some black and/or acid humor and the typical tragedy and irony. The film is well directed, and Farrell and McGregor give great performances, making the audience feel what they do and what they are going through. The irony element here is huge as I mentioned, as it is in Match Point, but in a different way of course. But I have to say that in my personal opinion, this film confirms Woody Allen's new path and definitely gets away with what he's looking for and wants to tell as a filmmaker. And regarding Farrell, this is by far his best film and performance in a long time, taking Allen's place as the neurotic, imbalanced individual, suffering from certain delusion and panic attacks, and insecurities and major doubts and conflicts as well. And he does it in a brilliant way. Irony is the word to describe Cassandra's Dream, a film worth watching.

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford

I have to go slow on this one. I did have expectations about this film, but after Babel, I didn't think nor expect that Brad Pitt could star in and deliver such an amazing performance; this actor is at his very finest moment; he has finally found that confidence that every actor needs in order to do what this man did: the work of a true artist. Casey Affleck? I'm speechless; his performance is as good as Mr. Pitt's, and his character is by far one of the most complicated, brilliant and fascinating in recent cinema's history, pretty much like Tom Ripley's, just to name an example. It would take hours of brilliant and deep analysis and discussion in order to really figure him out; it is not a black nor white character at all; it's very shallow to call him that. It is deep, complicated and full of different shades. And the best part is that Jesse James' is exactly the same way. Brilliant film.

"You won't find a funnier, honest or smarter comedy involving sexual intimacy all year. Young People Fucking easily secures it's self as a strong contender as one of the best films you're likely to see all year and one of my own personal favorites. Also features some of the best one liners as well."

    Aleksandra (Alexandra) Aleksandra (Alexandra)
5.0 Stars by Vmedia Berkeley Ca.
This is one of the best films of 2008 - foreign or domestic - its a great statement and Anti- war homage that vs the best in the area of war and home.

A matronly grandmother wanders around a Russian army base in sun scorched Chechnya, handing out meat pies, cradling soldiers faces and providing a welcome distraction from wearying routine in Alexander Sokurov's "Alexandra."
Sounds about as appealing as month old borscht, eh. Not when "Alexandra" comes from Sokurov ("Russian Ark"), a master of visual films, and stars Russian opera legend Galina Vishnevskaya.

Vishnevskaya never sings, but "Alexandra" sure does. Director Sokurov has made a stirring anti-war movie, delivering dreamy, alien landscapes devoid of color, raw images that match the soulful force of Vishnevskaya's performance. There's not a shot fired in the film, but it pierces the heart nonetheless.
His other films "The Russian Ark" and the celebration of the military man in "Father and Son".

This is as faultless a film as Ive seen in a long time. Sokurov's concept is brilliantly simple in just seeing Galina Vishnevskaya's aged body in the midst of these young soldiers and military hardware the meaning of the film is absolutely apparent. Then, the artistry at work here is breathtaking the dusty patina layered over the whole film, the finely worked soundtrack forever slipping back and forth between human voices and snatches of orchestral music, and single moments, the close ups on the young Chechen's face during his walk with Alexandra back to the camp, that are amazing in their beauty.

A must see - Try to see it on screen or for sure get the DVD.

A very artsy Russian Film. The pace is slow, but the beauty of it is that EVERY SINGLE shot is a piece of real Art. Director Andrei Zvyagintsev is a total Master. I love this movie. Obviously, the Cinematographer is a genious as well. Really, it's like seing an amazing Photograph or Painting in every shot. Perfection.
