    Unbreakable Unbreakable
    4.0 Stars by Ameeta
Is it possible to get a little too carried away with all this talk about heroes and villains? But then, what makes the distinction between a hero and a villain? Typical of all Shyamalan movies, we had the supernatural element, where Bruce Wilis, plays a character that does not seem to be susceptible to illness and injury. I was impressed with Samuel L Jacksons' role, Mr.Glass, a fragile and delicate person who has a well developed passion for comics and watching how his relationship with Wilis' character develops.

Pay attention to the play on colors. Progresses a little too slowly but other than that, you should give this a go.

Elijah Price: Your bones don't break, mine do. That's clear. Your cells react to bacteria and viruses differently than mine. You don't get sick, I do. That's also clear. But for some reason, you and I react the exact same way to water. We swallow it too fast, we choke. We get some in our lungs, we drown. However unreal it may seem, we are connected, you and I. We're on the same curve, just on opposite ends.

    ...

Elijah Price: You know what the scariest thing is? To not know your place in this world. To not know why you're here... That's... That's just an awful feeling.
David Dunn: What have you done...?
Elijah Price: I almost gave up hope. There were so many times I questioned myself...
David Dunn: You killed all those people...
Elijah Price: But I found you. So many sacrifices, just to find you.
    David Dunn: Jesus Christ...
Elijah Price: Now that we know who you are, I know who I am. I'm not a mistake! It all makes sense! In a comic, you know how you can tell who the arch-villain's going to be? He's the exact opposite of the hero. And most times they're friends, like you and me! I should've known way back when... You know why, David? Because of the kids. They called me Mr Glass

Progresses a little too slowly but other than that, you should give this a go.

    What can you say.
An early mix between Children of Men and Escape from New York.

After the atomic wars has ruined most of the planet and left women sterile. Mankind lives like out-laws in a Mad Max kinda world.
When the rumor starts to spread that there is a fertile woman hidden somewhere in New York. Our hero sets out to find her.

This movie has no merits at all. The sound-effects, special-effects, acting, dialouge, make up and everything else is really low quiality.

Somehow though, this film made some sort of imprint on me.
I even enjoyed the cheezy laser beem-guns.

Most of you will hate it. But there are some of you who will appreciate all the charmy crap that this movie has to offer.

I have always respected the work of Roman Polanski. My beef with this version is that certain parts from the book that i considered were important was left out. Other than that, its a brilliant book to film adaptation. Set in 19th century london, this is about a young boy's adventures, in the realist sense. I was impressed with how entertaining i found this film. Ofcourse, Polanski is magic. A strong recommendation.

Workhouse Boy: [Woken by boy pacing back an forth] Tom, give it a rest will ya? We're trying to sleep.
Hungry Boy: Can't sleep. Too hungry.
    Workhouse Boy: We're all hungry.
Hungry Boy: Yeah, but I'm scared.
    Workhouse Boy: Scared? Of What?
Hungry Boy: I'm so hungry I'm scared I might eat the boy that sleeps next to me
Respect: Its Polanski. Same person who brought us Rosemary's Baby and The Pianist. You should see this.

To Kill A Mockingbird To Kill A Mockingbird
    5.0 Stars by Ameeta
Based on the novel by Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird is about the defense of a man accused of a crime. By now, you all know how much i enjoy a story that is told in the form of a narration, and this was from the perspective of a child. Extra credit for that. Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch deserved his Oscar for his moving performace in this. This story is an accurate portrayal of childhood innocence, racism and the extents of moral tolerance that exist in a society. From the little that i am aware of about american history, the period that this film is from, the audience watching in the 1960's were extremely familiar with racial prejudice but rarely had it been displayed when a white man treated an African American with equality and respect and had an unbiased view to delivering justice. The cinematography is excellent. This movie was an amazingly good adaption of the book, and it a well made film. Strongly recommended to all.

Atticus Finch: I remember when my daddy gave me that gun. He told me that I should never point it at anything in the house; and that he'd rather I'd shoot at tin cans in the backyard. But he said that sooner or later he supposed the temptation to go after birds would be too much, and that I could shoot all the blue jays I wanted - if I could hit 'em; but to remember it was a sin to kill a mockingbird.
    Jem: Why?
Atticus Finch: Well, I reckon because mockingbirds don't do anything but make music for us to enjoy. They don't eat people's gardens, don't nest in the corncrib, they don't do one thing but just sing their hearts out for us
A classic. Strongly recommended for you to see.

I consider this the original, older version of Equilibrium, starring Christian Bale, of sorts. Facist states scare me. 1984 is an extremely important literary work. Most of you will not like this because it will seem to be presented very bleakly, however, its merely reflecting the words from the book. Worth watching all the way through.

Winston Smith: I know you'll fail. Something in this world... some spirit you will never overcome...
O'Brien: What is it, this principle?
Winston Smith: I don't know. The spirit of man.
O'Brien: And do you consider yourself a man?
    Winston Smith: Yes.
O'Brien: If you're a man, Winston, you're the last man. Your kind is extinct. We are the inheritors. Do you realize that you are alone? You are outside history. You unexist. Get up.
[Winston gets up and O'Brien shows him his reflection in a mirror. Winston is disheveled and beaten]
O'Brien: *That* is the last man. If you are human, *that* is humanity.

    Hogfather Hogfather
    4.0 Stars by Ameeta
Based on a novel by Terry Pratchett, Hogfather is an excellent fantasy film.
Michelle Dockery as Susan was an inspired choice, played her role brilliantly. I rather enjoyed how they took on the challenge of personifying Death, the voice over by Ian Richardson, was the best choice. I was very impressed by the performance of Teatime, played by Marc Warren, with his sinister laughter, weird, oddly paired eyes and strangeness. Excellent screen play. I also enjoyed observing the setting for Death's residence, the Toothfairy Castle, Hogwash etc. It was detailed and carried on the air of magic that was needed. Highly saturated with myth and folklore and that complemented the work of Terry Pratchett well. Not a disapointing adaptation at all. If you havent, do yourself a favor and read the book before watching this-makes a hell of a lot more sense. The film adaptation is divided into two parts, each being close to 90mins long, so expect to spend a total of 3 or so hours getting through this.

Not a bad adaptation. The producers did the best they could and they did a good job. So dont complain about how hard it was to follow the storyline because you were not aware of Pratchett's work before. You should definitely take time out and see this.

Oh, and HAPPY HOGSWATCH Death: Humans need fantasy to *be* human. To be the place where the falling angel meets the rising ape.
    Susan: With tooth fairies? Hogfathers?
Death: Yes. As practice, you have to start out learning to believe the little lies.
Susan: So we can believe the big ones?
Death: Yes. Justice, mercy, duty. That sort of thing.
Susan: They're not the same at all.
Death: You think so? Then take the universe and grind it down to the finest powder, and sieve it through the finest sieve, and then show me one atom of justice, one molecule of mercy. And yet, you try to act as if there is some ideal order in the world. As if there is some, some rightness in the universe, by which it may be judged.
Susan: But people have got to believe that, or what's the point?
Death: You need to believe in things that aren't true. How else can they become?

Not a bad adaptation. The producers did the best they could and they did a good job. So dont complain about how hard it was to follow the storyline because you were not aware of Pratchett's work beforehand. You should definitely take time out and see this.

Martin Scorsese is a genius. Travis Bickle, played by Robert De Niro, is complex as he tries to find out, what seems to be his purpose, who he is and what makes him tick. I think, i like this movie for its approach toward its characters. The supposed hero is not exactly golden boy material, and the heroin, the savee, she is not an angel herself. During his nightly adventures, he discovers a young prostitute, played by Jodie Foster, who is a sexual slave to a pimp , played by Harvey Keitel. He becomes a vigilante and tries to 'save' her. I found this facinating and this is what made the movie great for me- that it defies norms of acceptables.

    Fantastic screenplay!

Betsy: You know what you remind me of?
    Travis Bickle: What?
Betsy: That song by Kris Kristofferson.
    Travis Bickle: Who's that?
Betsy: A songwriter. 'He's a prophet... he's a prophet and a pusher, partly truth, partly fiction. A walking contradiction.'
Travis Bickle: [uneasily] You sayin' that about me?
Betsy: Who else would I be talkin' about?
Travis Bickle: I'm no pusher. I never have pushed.
Betsy: No, no. Just the part about the contradictions. You are that.
Martin Scorsese is a genius, enough said. Watch this if you haven't.

''Goodness is something to be chosen. When a man cannot choose he ceases to be a man.''

Insane. but brilliant. Kubrick gives us a decent enough masterpiece. A clockwork orange has plenty to offer in terms of disturbing, horrifying violence, perverse acts, extreme emotions and all in all, plain weirdness. This is a story about a young man names Alex, played by Malcolm McDowell who is disturbed and very facinated with sex and all its appeal. He makes a very entertaining villain indeed. Faithful Wikipedia tells us that the title is taken from an old Cockney expression, "as queer as a clockwork orange", and alludes to the prevention of the main character's exercise of his free will through the use of a classical conditioning technique. A Clockwork Orange, which was originally released in 1973 intially had a R rating, had been banned from Britain for close to thirty years. Arent you curious as to find out why?

Alex: No. No! NO! Stop it! Stop it, please! I beg you! This is sin! This is sin! This is sin! It's a sin, it's a sin, it's a sin!
Dr. Brodsky: Sin? What's all this about sin?
Alex: That! Using Ludwig van like that! He did no harm to anyone. Beethoven just wrote music!
Dr. Branom: Are you referring to the background score?
    Alex: Yes.
Dr. Branom: You've heard Beethoven before?
    Alex: Yes!
Dr. Brodsky: So, you're keen on music?
    Alex: YES!
Dr. Brodsky: Can't be helped. Here's the punishment element perhaps.
A Kubrick masterpiece! This was originally released in 1973 and intially had a R rating, also had been banned from Britain for close to thirty years. Arent you curious as to find out why?

Its shocking but true, they've actually made a Star Trek film which is a Trek film through and through without disapointing the audience. My favorite elements; humour, great action, awesome special effects, a stella cast and great acting from all the main characters. Kudos to Zacchary Quinto and Chris Pine especially. Simon Pegg as Scottie and Eric Bana as Nero was defintely well chosen. THis is a film that anyone can watch if they enjoy sci-fi and not limited to those who know and adore the last 40+ years of Trek.

Spock: You are, in fact, the Mr. Scott who postulated the theory of transwarp beaming?
Scotty: That's what I'm talkin' about! How do you think I wound up here? Had a little debate with my instructor on relativistic physics and how it pertains to subspace travel. He seemed to think that the range of transporting something like a... like a grapefruit was limited to about 100 miles. I told him that I could not only beam a grapefruit from one planet to the adjacent planet in the same system - which is easy, by the way - I could do it with a life form. So, I tested it out on Admiral Archer's prized beagle.
Kirk: Wait, I know that dog. What happened to it?
Scotty: I'll tell you when it reappears... Ahem. I don't know, I do feel guilty about that...
