Cinema is the ultimate art form, the seventh art, the art of the 20th century, the art where all other arts end into, the art that crosses borders, religions, languages, economical backgrounds and races; it is formed by images, words, and sounds; it is formed by the same matter dreams are made of...and I absolutely LOVE IT!

A Man Called Horse A Man Called Horse R 2.5 Stars
Poorly written and performed (except for Richard Harris) ethnographic western. The brutal "vow to the sun" ritual, Harris in the lead, and some (not all) religious symbolisms are good points, but no matter how good I think it turns at some points, the lack of depth is its fiercest enemy.

One of the most pleasing samples of Alex De la iglesia's wacky universe. Shocking, gory and hilarious situation inside a bar, when its weirdest customer starts picking up fights for the most uncommon stuff. Apocalyptic black humour at its best.
Edward Scissorhands Edward Scissorhands PG-13 5.0 Stars
Tim Burton's masterpiece. an immensely beautiful, charming, poignant cinematic jewel. images full of lyricism embellished by an almost celestial score by Danny Elfman.

You can see echoes of "Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari" in this lost japanese silent gem, despite director Teinosuke Kinugasa denies it. This film possess one of the most imaginative, haunting, delirious, nightmarish atmospheres I've experimented in a motion picture.
Atonement Atonement R 3.0 Stars
A pretentious film that narrowly succeeds in the art department and as a good old time epic romance. nevertheless it has some great moments and good performances.
Patton Patton PG 4.0 Stars
George C. Scott was born to play the irascible and implacable american general George S. Patton in this eye-catching war film that depicts with grandiosity the allied assaults in europe and north africa, and the general's courageousness, straightforwardness, his somewhat questionable treatment over his troops, and his peculiar but firm beliefs about the reincarnation of his soul. This eccentric character is one of the best representatives of the madness and nonsensicality of war.

UPDATE - I SAW THIS A SECOND TIME WITH A BETTER ENDING AND I HAVE UPPED MY GAME FOR THIS NEW INDI 2008 SKULL Flick.

The Ending in the new cut i saw today uses a non Hollywood ending that I truly hope Steven keeps it the final cut you see next weekend.

and no he doesn't die? or um? Lets just say this new ending does not follow the reagan formula - and for that reason I have upped the star factor.

I saw Shia Labeouf last sat night at the dress for SNL - and he told us there would be this secret screening that night. Of course we all ran the screeing on 40th street and saw the bone.

With the franchise and Spielberg not shying away from the original subtext of the franchise (the Reagan conquest) - Indi and his boy make for a fun play on the same metaphor this time around.

Dr. Jack Wheeler is a legend. he was the inspiration for the famed movie character.

While Jack has often been called a "real life Indiana Jones" and is part of the mix of historical figures Stephen Spielberg used (along with his own imagination) to create his fictional hero -- "Jones" is cartoon fiction and Wheeler is real.

In the 1980s he conducted a series of extensive visits to anti-Soviet guerrilla insurgencies in Nicaragua, Angola, Mozambique, Ethiopia, Cambodia, Laos, and Afghanistan, and to democracy movements in Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union, becoming an unofficial liaison between them and the Reagan White House. Based on his experiences with anti-Soviet insurgencies, he developed the strategy for dismantling the Soviet Empire adopted by the White House known as the "Reagan Doctrine. " It worked.

Dr. Jack Wheeler is virtually immeasurable as the architect of the Reagan Doctrine, he is one of the handful of men most responsible for the defeat of the Soviet Empire in the 1980s. He served his country as an "unofficial" liaison between the Reagan White House and anti-Soviet insurgents, pro-democracy activists and freedom fighters around the world, in Nicaragua, Angola, Mozambique, Ethiopia, Cambodia, Laos, Afghanistan, throughout Eastern Europe and in the Soviet Union itself.

With this in mind this new romp with Indi and the kid sticks to that path.

'Freedom is a fragile thing and is never more than one generation away from extinction. It is not ours by inheritance; it must be fought for and defended constantly by each generation, for it comes only once to a people. Those who have known freedom and then lost it, have never known it again." says Ronald Reagan

This Reagan Romp is fun - thick with 2008 Republican pride and will take the box office for the next 3 weekends.

    Bye George Bush -
    hello Mr McCain

Here's a rarity...a Toho movie with NO giant rubber monsters! And a doozy at that! Basically...it concerns an alien body snatcher that enters your mind through a vagina like opening in the middle of your forehead. And it drinks blood. Some of the (beautiful) photography is quite surreal. RECOMMENDED!!!

We can say this is a little bit autobiographical movie.
Chaplin is setting up his own troubles with the anti-American activities commission on the screen, and that is quite funny though particularly dramatic.
It contains some very pungent observations on the American way of life and American society of that period.
And I think that most of the americans will not apprecciate it.

Chaplin plays King Shahdov, a deposed monarch who flees to America in the hopes of selling his plans for a peaceful, nuclear-based society, which never happens. And during his stay he meets several people who give life to funny and touching moments.

"HENRI VERDOUX: Wars, conflict - it's all business. One murder makes a villain; millions, a hero. Numbers sanctify, my good fellow! "

"PRIEST: May the Lord have mercy on your soul.
HENRI VERDOUX: Why not? After all, it belongs to Him."

A great Chaplin's black comedy or as the "movie" says "A comedy of murders".
This is one of Chaplin´s best sound films.

It´s the story of a fired bank clerk who goes into business for himself, marrying and murdering rich women for their money that then he uses for his family, the "real" wife and the son.

His directing is superb, the script is wonderful (born from the mind of Orson Welles) and the acting is superb, one of his best performance.

This is not like others chaplin's movies so don't watch it you don't like black comedies.

This movie has remembered me the movie "keeping mum" directed by Niall Johnson with Rowan Atkinson,so if you liked "monsieur verdoux" give a look also at "keeping mum"

What does an office worker living a dull, routine life without friends or a woman do? Orders one of the life-like silicone love dolls and models it after a female co-worker. More of a hilariously dark psychological thriller than straight-out horror, this is one interesting and deranged film that's unsettling, especially when the main character Kenneth begins to suspect his love-doll "Nikki" is becoming jealous. The addition of a manipulating sex doll always turns the fun level up in any film. Funny and gory.

Really excellent biopic about the legend that is James Dean. For films like this is is seriously hard to choose the right actors to portray them. James Franco however made an excellent James Dean. The two do look very similar so that helped a lot. Some parts of the film were made up which I really didn't see the point of. Like Dean's father telling him his mother wasn't sure he was his father. Why? All the performances in the film are fantastic. I even read that the beach house is the one that was used in Beaches. I also heard that James Franco became so immersed in playing James Dean that he went from being a non smoker to smoking two packs a day, as well as playing the guitar, the bongos, and learned to ride a motorcycle. That's dedication. A must see film for all James Dean fans.
Seen this ages ago but no one has seen it so I thought I would recommend it. James Franco is surprisingly good as James Dean.

One of the first Italian detective movies ever made. Political thriller but also psychological and surreal drama, it's probably the best in its genre. In a grotesque way, director and writer Elio Petri perfectly portrays the political and social contest in 70's Italy, period of violent civil demonstrations and heavy repression by authorities.
At the centre of the movie is a gorgeous Gian Maria Volonté, who plays the f*ckest fascistoid and schizoid policeman ever seen on a screen. His omnipotence delirium is such that, after having committed a crime, intentionally leaves clues everywhere just to prove he's an untouchable citizen above suspicion. Volonté in his most intense and charismatic role!
The film is also remarkable for the original screenplay by Petri with Ugo Pirro and the amazing score by Ennio Morricone.
… when Italian Cinema was still alive.
