Avatar - PG-13 Back in 1995, James Cameron wrote a treatment called AVATAR which he later showed to the visualists at Digital Domain. He was called crazy which lead to him putting the screenplay in his safe for over 10 years. 10 years later production started and now that the film is out, it's evident to why James Cameron was called crazy back then. 5 years of hard work just showed how phenominal this film looked.

Utilizing the very latest in performance capture animation, James Cameron made sure that using a 500 million dollar budget would showcase some very new technology. Doing that he assured that the AVATAR of Jake Sully and the Na'Vi would look extremely state of the art. Using Academy Award wiining visual effects company WETA Digital, James Cameron also assured that the planet Pandora along with the creatures would look astonishing which trully were.

Aong with the visuals, the 3D imagery also made the film. Before filming began in 2007, James Cameron helped build a state of the art 3D camera for the production so it could match up with the state of the art visual effects. The end result looked nothing short of awsome, and most of the time I found myself just in astonishment to how great the whole film looked.

Besides of all of the production values, AVATAR brought in some great cast members. The story may be similar to Ferngully The Last Rainforest but for it all makes up is in the cast. You got Sam Worthington,Sigorney Weaver,Michelle Rodriguez,Giovanni Ribisi and Stephen Lang as the villian of the film. Each actor really brought alot into the film and made it even more better then it really actually was.

I've waited 5 years to see this film and came out not disappointed at all. If I could just pick one minor thing is that the film kinda dragged out here and there but overall this was a flawless sci fi 3D epic that any sci fi fan should not miss whatsoever.

Drag Me to Hell - PG-13 Co Writer/Director Sam Raimi returns to the horror genra after a 10 year abscense. Drag Me To Hell centers on gypsie curses and how 1 bank teller crosses a path with a old woman that puts the curse on her after denying her house. The overall plotline may sound lame, but this is from the same guy who brought movie goers the Evil Dead Trilogy. Knowing that right there assures that this film would be good and it honestly was. Trick 'r Treat - R Michael Dougherty(Co Writer of Superman Returns and Xmen 2) brings this film as his directorial debut and one of the best horror films I've seen this year.Trick r Treat tells 4 stories that all interwine throughout the hour and 23 minute runtime this film has, and does it well. Throughout the 4 stories, you got a serial killer,a schoolbus massacre,a werewolf and a vampire who stalks his victims through a halloween parade.

Not only was this film cleverly written but it was also pretty well directed. You've got actor's like Brian Cox,Dylan Baker and Anna Paquin.Other actor's I've spotted on tv shows also made small appearences as well and made the overall film entertaining much more.It was very unfortunate that this film had to see a direct to DVD release because the overall production quality of this film was a hollywood production more or less.

If you want to see a good halloween horror film this month then this is the film for you to see. It was well written, directed and produced. The cast was well chosen and brought alot to their roles as well. The horror elements were there and overall entertainment value was extremely high. If you want a good horror viewing experience then this is the movie to see.

Ong Bak 2 - R Martial arts master Tony Jaa stars in this prequel to the first Ong Bak set hundreds of years before the events of the first film. In this installment we find Tony Jaa set out for revenge after a clan murders his family as a child and embarks on a journey to go and kill the ones responsible for his parents death.

What this film did right from the start was the fighting sequences. Throughout the entire film we witness Tony Jaa's magnificent martial arts moves as he beats his victims to a pulp without the usage of wires or stunt doubles. Another thing done right was just how entertaining the film was. It may have been in a foreign language, but the overall production value of this film was pretty good if you ask me.

Concidering I said this is a foreign language film there is a huge setback, and that is the fact you have to read the text the entire time. It's not really a bad thing but it does get in the middle of laying back enjoying a film when you have to read constant text.Another thing is the fact Tony Jaa didn't direct the whole film. Half way through his production he had a breakdown of some sort and left the set which resulted in another person taking over. Doing that made the middle of the movie seem somewhat off balance or something.

Overall even if this was a prequel set 100's of years before number 1, and doesn't continue the storyline, this still is a well done martial arts film. Trust me go and see this when it hits

The Breed - R First time Director Nicholas Mastandrea and actress Michelle Rodriguez co stars in what is a good but slightly disappointing Wes Craven production. The Breed is about a group of college kids who fly to a deserted island by a small private owned plane to a log cabin for spring break. Upon staying, they end up finding out that the supposed dogs who were put down at a local animal shelter are running amok and are genetically altered.

The story alone sounded interresting but what it lacked was the true scare factor. Some sequences were pretty intense, but for some reason I just didn't find it that scary. The way the dogs tore their victims up was pretty brutal and it was kinda an edge of your seat thing when you never knew who was dog food for these vicious animals. As for casting goes you got Eric Lively,Hill Harper,Oliver Hudson,Nick Boraine and Taryn Manning who starred alongside Michelle Rodriguez.

They aren't basically big names but they have been in a variety of TV shows and direct to TV films throughout their careers. If you got cable and want to see a rather decent cheap budgeted horror flick then The Breed is for you. Other then that I wouldn't reccomend wasting your money on purchasing it or renting it.

Gamer - R Since 300,Gerard Butler hasn't really starred in any other ass kicking films, but all of that will change with Gamer. Gamer's story takes place in the not so distant future where inmates have the opportunity to get out of death row and become a free man if they participate in 30 rounds of death match style tournaments.Upon going into the tournament, Gerard Butler's character becomes an icon throughout the matches and gains notoriety while trying to escape and find his wife and kid.

The story may sound lame but what made up for it is the action. Right when the film opens up, Gerard Butler is capping heads and owning people left and right in the death match style setup. The entire film's action premise made up for the lacking storyline the title had going for it.Besides that, the film had this interactive community setup like Playstation Home but on a much adult level. That whole segment was extremely cliched and more or less wasn't necessary for the film whatsoever.

Besides the over the top action segments, cliched Playstation Home setting and so so storyline there was also a decent cast. Fortunately Lionsgate got some decent talent on board for this film. You had Chris "Ludocris" Bridges as the computer hacker, John Leguizamo as one of the inmates and Michael C Hall as the notorious villian responsible for the Gamer deathmatch setup.Personally I wasn't a big fan of John Leguizamo due to the fact I think he has no talent but to my suprise Chris "Ludocris" Bridges and Michael C Hall both gave off exceptional performances.

I am a pretty big fan of Dexter so it was no surprise to me that Michael C Hall gave off an exceptional performance. Also Chris "Ludocris" Bridges has somewhat been proving himself as an actor more then a rapper. Other then that this is an awsome film that no fan of action oriented films should miss out on.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen - PG-13 Revenge Of The Fallen brings Director Michael Bay back into the Director's seat for this followup story. Supposedly the story takes place 2 years later and the war between the Decepticons and Autobots are looming deeper and deeper.Witwicky ends up going to college where he gets possessed by a fragment of the cube he destroyed from the first film and embarks on an adventure which leads to the sacred Transformer called The Fallen to be resurrected.

Besides Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox there was also John Turturro who returned along with Tyrese Gibson. Peter Cullen voiced Optimus Prime and Hugo Weaving voiced Megatron yet again. There was also Tony Todd who voiced The Fallen as well. The story aspect of the film just wasn't there if you ask me. What was there was the massive explosions, overwhelming usage of Transformers all throughout and the fact it had some rather really excellent combat sequences all around. The fact the film was shot with IMAX cameras in certain areas just made the viewing experience of the film much more enjoyable and epic to see.

Transformers 2 had no story and what was there was iffy at best. This was an entertaining action film and it shouldn't be missed by anyone who is a Transformers fan or just anyone who enjoys a mindless visual effect filled robot beat em up film.

Star Trek - PG-13 JJ Abrams' reimagining of the Star Trek brand is possibly one of the best moves the series has made yet. Taking cues from Star Wars,Abrams made sure that the reimagining was to really help the series altogether in alot of ways. Star Trek wasn't a new story at all but more or less took the series to the very beginning to how the Star Trek crew became apart of The Enterprise, and began their adventures at a very young age.

It was interresting to see how Spock grew up and had his origin explained and how Captain Kirk became Captain Kirk. The action standpoint was also pretty good as well. ILM's production on the visual effects proved extremely useful in this adaptation.Alot of the space battles and planets all throughout the film were well animated and overall looked extremely impressive. I honestly found myself breath taken by the artistry of alot of the scenery.

Casting wise it was also pretty well handled. You had Eric Bana's performance as the lead villian, which not only the make up and props for him were well done, but his overall performance was pretty good as well.Chris Pine as young Kirik and Hero's actor Zachary Quinto as young spock was a good casting choice overall and both delivered for the characters they both portrayed.

The only downfall was that the film's conclusion basically left not much of an opening for a sequel, but overall this was a very very good movie indeed.

The Hurt Locker - R Not only is this film one of THE best recent war films, but this is THE best war film based on the middle eastern war as of now. The Hurt Locker tells the story of this soldier in the ARMY who disposes bombs in Baghdad back in 2004. The film goes into insurgent attacks and how he must deal with that kind of stuff every single day of the week.

What the film did right was the amount of suspense it had in it. Not only were the fire fights intense and realistic, but the fact it was shot in the middle east was the best thing about it. The fact the film wasn't shot in a hollywood set or a location somewhat in the US made this film much much better and more immersive. I found myself caught in the film while watching it.

The cast though wasn't much known. The only noticable actor was Anthony Mackie who played 2pac Shakur in Notorious and had a small role in Eagle Eye. Jeremy Renner isn't much known either but his overall performance as the lead was pretty good. This was a 11 million dollar film that not only was well produced but was also well written and directed.

If you want a very immersive war film then do the favor and go and see The Hurt Locker

Aliens - R Sequels rarely perform well with critics due to lack of a powerful storyline, but James Cameron changed that in 1986 with his second directed film. Aliens continues the story of Ripley 57 years after the events of Alien. After being picked up by a salvage crew and returned to a hospital, Ripley slowly learns that the nightmare haven't ended. Being forced to return to the same planet where it all began with the Colonial Marine Corp, Ripley soon discovers that the horror hasn't ended. September 26, 2009

Starship Troopers - R Director Paul Verhoeven and Writer Edward Neumier's adaptation of Starship Troopers was a big budget sci fi extravaganza back in 1997. Costing over 100 million dollars and using a so so cast of actors with that budget meant bad things for the film back at that time. Starship Troopers is based on the Robert Heinlein book of the same name. The story takes place in the future where mankind goes to war against a army of alien insects after an asteroid of theirs wipes out a civilization on earth off the map.

Casper Van Dien plays Johnny Rico who dreams to join the Mobile Infantry and fight the war. The story takes him from his senior year of High School all the way to the war against the bugs. Joining him is Denise Richards who plays a space ship captain, Dina Meyer who is one of his love interrests that joins Johnny on his fight. You also have Clancy Brown as the Drill Instructor, Neil Patrick Harris who plays Rico's friend and a intelligence officer in the Mobile Infantry, Michael Ironside as Rico's teacher and officer in command and not to mention Jake Busey as Johnny Rico's partner.

What the main intention for the film to sell was to be it's visual effects and sound design. Industrial Light and Magic along with creature costume and animatronic operators Tom Woodruff Jr and Alec Gillis along with creature designer Phill Tippett all formed up to create a trully excellent visual effect powerhouse. From the spaceship destruction to the ground battles with the insects and Mobile Infantry it was all there.

If it weren't for Casper Van Dien getting the lead role and giving off a bitchy performance and false marketing it had, then this film would've made a bundle. Unfortunately Director Paul Verhoeven saw something in Casper Van Dien and that is why the film didn't perform well financially.

Max Payne - PG-13 Director John Moore's film adaptation from the video game of the same name is more or less decent at best. Mark Wahlberg play Max Payne who's a cop that came home one day only to find his wife and daughter murdered. For over a year, Max goes into his own investigation and finds out that his wife's murder turns into a huge conspiracy.

In the mix you got Mila Kunis as Mona Sax who helps Max into the investgation, after her sister was found murdered. Her role was rather bland and didn't really bring much to the movie at all. You also got Ludacris who plays the role of Lt. Jim Bravura who is onto Max's case throughout his own investigation. Chris O' Donnell and Beau Bridges also star in the film as well and give decent performances to their characters.

Concidering Max Payne was nothing more then a shooting game meant that it wouldn't translate well to a motion picture. Well Writer Beau Thorne decided to turn the film into a crime drama which somewhat did the movie justice. Most of the time it was an investigation for Max while there was little action segments. The action segments that were there were well thought out and were pretty realistic as well. The visuals for the film were also pretty artistic.

When the victims who took the drug, they would see flying demonic angels which looked pretty neat if you ask me. The art direction was there and Mark Wahlberg did a decent job as well. Take it for me that this is possibly one of the better video game adaptations to come out for sometime.

Pandorum - R Pandorum came from the producers of the Resident Evil trilogy and on a somewhat good note too. The film is about a small batch of crewmen trapped on a vessel with no memory, but soon find out they aren't alone and must do everything they can to survive from whatever is out there. The film is more or less a psychological thriller but in space and with a sci fi like twist.

What I liked most about this title was the make up and visual effects. For 40 million dollars I often found myself pretty impressed with the production quality the film had. Also 40 million dollars attracted some decent actors as well. You got Ben Foster,Dennis Quaid,Cung Le and Cam Gigandet who was known for his work in Never Back Down and Twilight. It was a good cast but that couldn't save it from the somewhat conclusion to the storyline.

I walked out of the theater somewhat upset about how the film ended. I won't spoil it but the ending could've been more...well epic. Aside of that this was a good film but don't go in having huge expectations for it whatsoever

Observe and Report - R Seth Rogan stars as a mall security officer in charge and has dreams of being a cop one day.He think that finding a flasher who's been running around the mall terrorizing the women he might be able to become a police officer. Yea this story is basic but overall it's very very funny. Seth Rogan really brought alot to this film with his dark humor and excessive usage of bad language. Along for the ride is Anna Faris who play's nothing more then a drugged out girl who more or less hates Rogan's character and you got Ray Liotta who plays a detective that is tasked with finding this flasher and has to deal with Rogan's annoying self.

You also got Michael Pena who did a pretty funny job as well. The film is short(running at an hour and 46 minutes) but it overall was extremely funny and shouldn't be missed by people who love comedies or appreciate Seth Rogan's work.

This film is also pretty bloody as well. A good few parts involve a good amount of blood and beating up but overall still had the film be pretty funny.

Fighting - PG-13 fighting was possibly one of the most bare bones film I've seen this year. The story is generic at the very best. Fighting tells about a young man named Shawn McArthur who has dreams making it so he ends up meeting a con man who gives him this opportunity to make money by going into fights. Upon going in these fights, he ends up meeting this waitress that he ends up falling for.

Channing Tatum did a rather so so performance while Terrence Howard did an ok job as the con man at best. The fight sequences were pretty realistic and that was sadly the only draw to the film. There weren't many fighting matches and the ones that were there weren't exactly long.Take it for me this isn't really worth watching so avoid it unless it is on basic cable as what this film should've been on from the very start.
