G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra
PG-13
GI Joe is an extremely fun and exciting, check your brain at the door kind of movie. The kind of movie that has the simple story of the good guys trying to stop the bad guys. And you'll be cheering throughout. I was misled by some friends who said that this movie was awful. Not by a longshot, this movie kicks ass. Of course Hollywood changed the original story somewhat which is expected, but I still enjoyed it. The story has the Joes taking on the evil Cobra. The Joes are led by General Hawk (a stern Dennis Quaid) who recruits two army soldiers named Duke (Channing Tatum) and Ripcord (Marlon Wayans) to help bring down the deadly organization called Cobra. The rest of Hawk's team include a fiery redhead named Scarlet (Rachel Nichols) who is the team's best marksman, or should I say markswoman; the imposing British soldier Heavy Duty and of course fan favorite Snake Eyes, silent but deadly. The Cobra foes are equally as impressive with leader Destro (Christopher Eccleston), Snake Eyes mortal enemy Storm Shadow; master of disguise Zartan; the doctor who will eventually become Cobra Commander (played surprisingly by indie vet Joseph Gordon-Levitt); and last but not least The Baroness (a lethal beauty who is bad ass, played very impressively by Sienna Miller). Without a doubt this is MIller's best role ever. She makes The Baroness a woman you would definitely not want to cross but she does get a little emotional towards the end. A big plus for whoever decided to cast her for this role. There is tons of action in this movie with several shoot-outs, car chases, and fist fights. And plenty of humor to make sure things never get too dark, mainly supplied by Marlon Wayans and a few by Miller. All in all I enjoyed the heck out of GI Joe.
Shaun of the Dead
R
Excellent horror comedy that hits the mark. Shaun and his best pal Ed are room-mates in England and are just coasting through life. Shaun has a girlfriend named Liz who wants more from him. Then one day people start turning into zombies and Shaun becomes the reluctant leader. The laughs are plenty as are the thrills. It can get very gory but still fun. I laughed my ass off and it's one of my favorites now. Highly recommened.
Shaun: I don't think I've got it in me to shoot my mum, roommate, and girlfriend all in one day...
Liz: Who said I was taking you back?

His Girl Friday
Unrated
His Girl Friday is my favorite film of all time. It has been since the first time I saw it, when I was 12. Cary Grant is never better as newspaper editor Walter Burns, who is about to lose his ace reporter and ex-wife Hildy Johnson (a superb performance by Rosalind Russell) to marriage to an insurance man (Ralph Bellamy). Just so happens a major news story breaks as convicted murderer Earl Williams, who is about to be put to death, escapes from custody. Walter convinces Hildy to take this last job assignment and he will sign a nice big check for an insurance policy for the soon to be wed couple. During her investigation, Hildy manages to track down Williams and tries to keep him safe from the police and the mayor. A wonderful mix of comedy and some drama make this my all time favorite film. Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell make a terrific dream team. The one liners fly fast and furious, expertly handled by the entire cast. Great direction by the legendary Howard Hawks. Highly recommended. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Wilson, reporter: Any dope on how he escaped? McCue, reporter: Maybe the sheriff let him out so Williams could vote for him. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Walter Burns: Sorta wish you hadn't done that, Hildy. Hildy Johnson: Done what? Walter Burns: Divorced me. Makes a fella lose all faith in himself. Gives him a... almost gives him a feeling he wasn't wanted. Hildy Johnson: Oh, now look, junior... that's what divorces are FOR!
Bringing Up Baby

A gem of a movie. Kate and Cary team up for this classic screwball comedy that couldn't be any better. The story involves a zany heiress (Kate), a paleontologist (Cary), a leopard named Baby, a dog named George, a million dollar research grant, and a missing bone to a brontosaurus skeleton. And it all climaxes with the cast being arrested. Hilarious and very entertaining. One of the best comedies ever made. And one of my personal favorites.Susan: "Now, don't lose your temper". David: "My dear young lady, I'm not losing my temper. I'm merely trying to play some golf!" Susan:" You choose the funniest places; this is a parking lot".Flixster - Share Movies
