Alien (1979, R)
I'll never be able to decide which Alien film I like most. Alien is probably my favorite horror film and Aliens is my favorite action film; it's far to close to decide. This film shows that horror can be taken seriously but unfortunately due to films like Hostel they will always be seen as cheap trash. |

Black Sabbath (1964, Unrated)
To put it simply this is one of the best horror films ever made, without a doubt. I thought I was too old to have a film scare me, but this proved me wrong; The Drop of Water segment made all my hairs stand on end, and the best thing is it isn't gore or violence that made it happen but pure atmosphere, I think the last time a film scared me was back when I saw 13 when The Blair Witch had came out, obviously at the time without the internet I was fooled in to thinking it was real and I'm definitely glad I was fooled because it made the ending one of the best moments in horror. It's taken me 6 or 7 years to find another film to scare me. If The Drop Of Water didn't make all your hairs stand on end you must be emotionally numb. |

The Thing (1982, R)
Great science fiction and John Carpenters best film, and considering the amount of great films John Carpenter has made that's saying something. Amazing special effects that in my mind have only just been topped recently (Davy Jones in Pirates of the Caribbean is really impressive). Although the fact that they used no CGI for this film says it all. It's almost as if every scene in this film is there to build tension and it definitely works. This is probably the best remake ever made (contrary to popular belief yes there are a lot of good remakes). |

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1967, R)
Great film and very epic. Unlike most Spghetti Westerns this one during it's second half actually felt convincing. With most of the Italian made Westerns it's brutally obvious that they have been filmed in Spain and Italy and not America. Great acting throughout although I wish Lee Van Cleef was in it more, if you were to add his screen time together it would probably only amount to 45 minutes. Brilliant film but I still prefer For A Few Dollars More, I enjoyed the partnership between Mortimer and Manco in that. Although the relationship between Tuco and Blondie in this was also very good. |

A Fistful of Dynamite (Duck, You Sucker) (Giù la testa) (1971, PG)
Amazing film, definitely my 3rd favorite Leone film. Probably the best director the ever lived, it's just a shame he made so little. This film is effortlessly funny and the characters are just as interesting if not more than the ones in the 'dollars trilogy'. The only thing that holds it back from being as good as FAFDM and TGTB&TU is that it doesn't have quite as much focus. |

Sei donne per l'assassino (Blood and Black Lace) (Six Women for the Murderer) (1965, Unrated)
Brilliant film and highly influential. The lighting is great throughout. Although The Girl Who Knew Too Much is the first attempt to adapt the giallo genre to the bif screen this is the one that really solidified the genres conventions that would be imitated countless times, you have the gloved killer (though that originated from Black Sabbath), elaborate death sequences, stylish camera work and of course the attractive women. Thought not exactly being a slasher itself (I'd say Twitch of the Death Nerve is really the first slasher) This is where the roots of American slasher films come from although many of which weren't as carefully constructed as this film. Also an extremely daring film for the time. |

The Godfather, Part II (1974, R)
I know how terribly cliche it is to have The Godfather in you're top 10 films but it really is that good. I'm not to sure which one I like best. But The Godfather part 2 has some of the best acting I've ever seen, the Micheal/Fredo confrontations are exceptionally good. I don't think anyone could top Al Pacino in this. although Robert De Niro as the Young Vito Corleone comes close. |
