Milk (2008, R)
First of all, it's amazing how Gus Van Sant can get wonderful performances of every actor in this movie. James Franco, Emile Hirsch, Allison Pill, Josh Brolin and Diego Luna were great. I don't even need to say anything about Sean Penn. The movie is visually stunning, has an amazing costume design and the script is terrific. It really deserved the Oscar for best original screenplay. One of 2008's best. |

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008, PG-13)
This was, without a doubt, one of the most amazing experience I've ever had watching a movie. David Fincher has created another masterpiece with this touching, original and magical fable. Brad Pitt was excellent playing all ages of Benjamin Button and Cate Blanchett was terrrific (as usual) in the role of Button's impossible love. The supporting actors were really impressive as well, for instance Taraji P. Henson and Tilda Swinton. |

Slumdog Millionaire (2008, R)
What a fantastic movie! Boyle leads us to the slums of India to tell a story about love and persistence by flashbacks of the main character who is about to win the top prize in a television show. However the story is not made only of happy things, the boy goes through hell in his childhood (he even has to jump into a crap hole), and a lot of people belives he is cheating on the quiz game, even the show host who tries to make him lose. The cinematography is stunning, with those dazzling colours and the editing is perfect. It sure is a great contender for winning best picture, but the nominations for best original song is unfair, Bruce Springsteen really deserved a nomination for "The Wrestler" and Peter Gabriel should have won. About the prize for best original score... well, it's a shame. |

The Wrestler (2008, R)
Darren Aronofsky has already done a masterpiece with his disturbing "Requiem for a Dream", and now he is back with the heartbreaking story of a retired wrestler trying to get his fame back. He is finished, addicted to drugs and steroids, and to get even better, he suffers a heart attack and can't fight anymore. So, he tries to start a life without wrestling, working in a market. Besides all that, he tries to repair his broken relantionship with his daughter (Evan Rachel Wood, amazing) and to win a stripper's heart (beautifully portrayed by Marisa Tomei). Aronofsky did a terrific job, as usual, with his very own style and precise direction, he deserves some recogntion right now. The choice of shotting mostly with a handheld camera was perfect. It gave it a nice documentary style. Mickey Rourke's performance was incredible, a wonderful way to come back. |

Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008, PG-13)
Woody Allen is back on the top with this delightful comedy about love, passion, betrayal, disappointments and all those feelings that are involved in relationships. With wonderful dialogues, he tells us about the amorous adventures of two friends on vacation in Barcelona, and shows us a clever and funny look at the different ways of viewing a relationship. The whole cast is great, Javier Barden, Scarlett Johansson and Rebecca Hall did an incredible job, but Penelope Cruz is outstanding. I'm extremelly glad she won the Oscar for her role because she was simply perfect. She steals every scene she's in. And the beautiful scenery makes the movie even better. |

In Bruges (2008, R)
Excellent! Really, really funny. I didn't like Colin Farrel very much, but after this one I'll forget every bad movie he made. One of the best dark comedies I've seen recently, with a bunch of hilarious situations. But, even being this funny, it also has a certain amount of drama, very well developed, by the way. The script is amazing and it definitely deserves the nomination for best original screenplay. I had great expectations about "In Bruges" and it sure reached all of them. |

The Graduate (1967, PG)
I waited so long to see this movie and I had such high expectations that I was afraid to disappoint myself. But fortunately, the movie was everything I was expecting and a little more. It's wonderfully directed by Mike Nichols (that scene when Benjamin Braddock is using a diving dress is just perfect), the acting is also amazing, Anne Bancroft is the perfect Mrs Robinson. The movie is very original and innovative for its time. And I cannot review this movie without saying something about the most unforgettable soundtrack ever, all the songs by Simon and Garfunkel fit perfectly and gave it a special touch. A classic of the 60's that remains unique till today. |

Revolutionary Road (2008, R)
After his highly praised "American Beauty", Sam Mendes brings us another piece about the american dream and what may come along with it. DiCaprio and Winslet are brillant playing a couple that seems to live a perfect life, but actually is facing a lot of difficulties in every way of their lives. They should at least have been nominated for Oscar for their roles. All the supporting cast was terrific, and Michael Shannon deserves his nomination. I think that "Revolutionary Road" should have been nominated for best picture, director and writing, and I really don't get it why the Academy simply ignored it. |

Doubt (2008, PG-13)
First of all, the cast is perfect. They all deserve their nominations, but unfortunately it is very likely that none will win. Every scene they were discussing or talking was wonderful, but beyond all, they could tell us everything just with their look. One of the things I liked the most, is that we do not see anything more than the characters, and we end up with as many doubts as they do. |

Amazing. Magical. Incredible. I loved every minute of it. The caracthers are adorable, the cinematography is great and I won't say anything about the acting. I was amazed by every scene and every detail. When I heard Jude Law, Colin Farrell and Johnny Depp were going to "replace" (it's awful to say that, Heath Ledger is irreplaceable) I remender thinking "that's not going to work", but they made it perfectly. |
