I still don't know how this movie managed to gather such a nice cast, but come on, when will Vince Vaughn stop playing the same character over and over? The script was silly and not funny at all. I almost cried of boredom and I even felt ashamed for them.
Not one of Almodovar's best works, but it's still great. The art direction is perfect, just like in any other of his movies. The cast is excellent... oh, I love Almodovar's actresses. And there's one particular scene that is outstanding: the one where Lena talks to Ernesto through the screen and at the same time, behind him.
First of all, it's amazing how Gus Van Sant can get wonderful performances of every actor in this movie. James Franco, Emile Hirsch, Allison Pill and Josh Brolin were great. I don't even need to say anything about Sean Penn. The movie is visually stunning, has an amazing costume design and the script is terrific. It really deserved the Oscar for best original screenplay. One of 2008's best.
Really disturbing and repulsive. More than what i was expecting and at the same time it manages to be beautiful. Don't ask me how. The first scene in black and white slow motion is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. Charlotte Gainsbourg gave such an real and powerful performace. Visually impressive, with a breathtaking cinematography, Lars von Trier made one of the hardest movies to watch of the decade.
