1
The Godfather (1972,  R)
The Godfather
The greatest movie ever made. It has great performances all around and tells the story of mob boss Vito Corleones fall and his son Michaels rise. This is one of the few movies to make you care for the criminals.
2
Raging Bull (1980,  R)
Raging Bull
An intense movie by the great Scorsese. After a near death experience, Scorsese came into this movie expecting it to be his last. So after putting everything into it, he has made one of the greatest movies ever. About middleweight boxer Jake LaMotta, he not only makes a boxing movie, he portrays how obsession and having a violent job such as boxing can ruin a man. A haunting movie, you can't help but love and hate Jake, thanks to De Niro's best performance. A masterpiece.
3
GoodFellas (1990,  R)
GoodFellas
The basis for the Sopranos is a fast paced action drama. Scorsese strikes gold again with the true story of Henry Hill. Scorsese enlists De Niro, Liotta and Pesci to bring the characters to life. He makes this two and a half hour movie go very quick. The movie is violent, vulgar and memorable for the ages. This should have won best picture, not fuckin Dances With Wiolves.
4
The Dark Knight (2008,  PG-13)
The Dark Knight
In today?s day and age, superhero movies run amok in Cinemas all around the world. Just like shitty horror and action movies of the 80?s, comic book movies are everywhere. From the shit like ?Catwoman? to the decent like ?Blade? to the classic like ?X2:X-Men United?, they have all felt like comic book movies. But there was one franchise that went from decent to shit in a span of 8 years. It was Batman, going from ?Batman? to ?Batman and Robin? from 1989 to 1997. And when everyone counted out the franchise, they were in for a rude awakening.

In 2005 WB and Christopher Nolan came together and made ?Batman Begins?, a movie that transcended the genre and made people clamor for a sequel. Well in 2008, Christopher Nolan returned and brought with him the old team and newcomers Heath Ledger, Maggie Gyllenhall and Jonathan Nolan. This was a movie hyped for so long because of the last one and the buzz around Ledger?s performance around the Joker. Well after three years of waiting, it arrived. And the question on everyone?s mind is ?Does it live up to the hype?? Well a simple answer in yes. But it is so much more complex that that. It is not only the greatest movie of 2008 or the greatest comic book movie, it is the best movie of the decade and one of the best crime dramas ever.

The movie starts right where Batman Begins ended. The Joker and his goons are robbing a bank. But this isn?t an ordinary bank or robbery. During the robbery, the henchmen start picking each other off. We find out the Joker told them each to make the cuts better. But they don?t he?s there with them. Also, this is a mob bank. So the manager doesn?t go down without a fight. He pulls out a shotgun and goes to town. But he is dispatched off and we get our first glimpse off The Joker. Things only get better from here.

After the robbery, we are treated to a gang meeting. Apparently the drugs being bought have odd side effects. Turns out the dealer is none other than Scarecrow. Cillian Murphy is back, but it?s only a cameo to tie this to ?Batman Begins?. This scene works very well. It shows us the fake Batmen running around. It also shows us that Batman isn?t happy with his suit.
Things really kick off during the meeting of the mob. All the remaining bosses met to discuss the cops recovering the laundered money, led by Lieutenant Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman). They also briefly mention The Joker, but they feel he?s a nobody. Then he crashes the party. He shows us a nice little magic trick and talks to the bosses. We find out he plans to kill Batman. After this scene, the movie just kicks it into high gear. I don?t wanna spoil the movie for anyone, so I?ll stop discussing the plot.

Let?s get this out of the way, Heath Ledger is no where in this movie. All we get is the Joker. It?s a performance for the ages. Quite possibly the greatest performance of all time. Every scene he?s in, he chews up the scenery. He?s hilarious and frightening at the same time. The third time I saw it, I was still tense whenever he showed up. He?s brutal, manic, psychotic, hilarious and very smart. The ultimate screen villain. He makes things harder for future Jokers.

Everyone else in the movie is also amazing. Christian Bale is still the best Batman and Bruce Wayne. He is intimidating and charming. Gary Oldman is given more to do this time and he owns it. Amazing to watch as Jim Gordon, one of the only good cops in town. Morgan Freeman is still good as Lucius Fox, Bruce?s source of gadgets. Michael Caine still works as Alfred. Maggie Gyllenhall is a step up from Katie Holmes but Rachel is still an annoying character.

The most under rated performance is definitely Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent. He is really great in the role. He owns Harvey Dent. He starts out as the White Knight of Gotham, a really admirable man. But he slowly becomes a ruined man, culminating into his change into Two Face. It?s really fantastic.

One of the best things about this movie is it managed to keep me on the edge of my seat. I thought I knew what was gonna happen, but I was always pleasantly surprised. The twists and turns in this movie never felt forced or gimmicky. It was all a natural progression of the story. Same goes with the action scenes. There aren?t many, but the ones there are amazing. Nolan really knows what he?s doing. The action was all natural progression.

This movie is a lot darker than every other comic book movie before, excluding ?Sin City?. It really kept it?s promise about escalation and how things are gonna get worse before they better. It is ?The Empire Strikes Back? of this generation. It really is amazing how Nolan and company made such a groundbreaking movie. This movie transcends the genre of comic book movie. It?s the second movie to transcend the genre, the first being ?Batman Begins?. It is an epic crime drama. It really ranks as one of the best of all time. It managed to be better than the hype which was out of this world. It?s my fourth favorite movie ever. Nolan is now my second favorite director ever, Heath Ledger is my second favorite actor. Oldman and Eckhart move up in my list after this flick. A once in a lifer time event. It is truly a challenge to make a third movie that lives up to the hype. Absolutely amazing.
5
Pulp Fiction (1994,  R)
Pulp Fiction
The movie that shaped a generation and cemented Tarantino into iconic status. He takes three stories and interconnects them beautifully. Willis is great as the conflicted and tense Butch. Jackson is the best as the bible spewing Jules. Rhames is good as Marsellus. and Tarantino single handedly ressurected Travoltas carrer, only for Travolta to sink back down again.
6
The Departed (2006,  R)
The Departed
The best movie of 2006 and of the decade. Scorsese is back to form. He goes back to crime, but not Italian gangsters in New York. He goes up to Boston and takes aim at the Irish. Qith an all star cast the two top performances go to DiCaprio as the troubled undercover cop Billy Costigan. And Mark Wahlberg steals every scene he is in. Definetly best picture of the year and best director.
7
Grindhouse (Grind House) (2007,  R)
Grindhouse (Grind House)
After almost a year seeing this in theatres which was the only way to see this, I almost forgotten how badass it was. The longer versions on DVD kinda made me forget. But thank god for Starz man. They are bringing Grindhouse in full fucking form and rightly so. It is so badass that I am speechless. The movie starts offf perfectly with the trailer for "Machete", setting the tone for the movie. Then "Planet Terror" starts and the insanity is kicked up to 11. Blood flies out of bodies like no ones business and the gore is so in your face. When this ass kicking film ends, we get three more trailers. Highlights are Nicholas Cage as Fu Manchu, the best thing he's done in years. Also the "Thanksgiving" trailer was just to damned funny. After the trailers we get Tarantino's movie which brings the insanity down to a 8. "Death Proof" is the weaker of the movies but after a while I have come to appreciate it more. Kurt Russell is too cool for school in this movie as Stuntman Mike. The car stuff is also some crazy shit. Tarantino just lost focus on the character stuff. I loved how the directors made the films all grainy and fucked up. The missing reels were also perfect. It all added up to feeling like a trip back to the 70's. I love this fucking film.
8
Superman Returns (2006,  PG-13)
Superman Returns
A well done comic book revival by the master Bryan Singer. He takes the best of the old, good story telling and good characters, and the new, breathtaking action and effects. Routh is perfect as Clark and Superman. Spacey is brilliant as Lex with some sillyness to make himself scarier. This is a great revival of the big blue boy scout. Finally, Superman Returns.
9
The Usual Suspects (1995,  R)
The Usual Suspects
A great crime movie by the great Bryan Singer with a hell of an ending.
10
Reservoir Dogs (1992,  R)
Reservoir Dogs
Quentin Tarantino breaks onto the scene with an ordinary heist movie but makes an original movie without a hesit.
11
Zodiac (2007,  R)
Zodiac
After my second viewing of "Zodiac" I realized something. This is one of the most creepy movies ever made. I have seen my share of horror and suspense movies, but this one truly creeps me out. It is made in such an amazing way. The lighting, the angles and the score all really add to the atmosphere. Especially the song "Hurdy Gurdy Man" by Donovan. It was truly creepy. This is a feat in it's own right, for a movie nowadays to scare instead of surprise. This movie is about the search for the Zodiac, not the Zodiac. We see three men who are consumed by the investigation. THis also makes the movie truly unique. But this movie would be nothing if it wasn't for the acting.
The acting in this movie is phenominal. Another round of applause to David Fincher for casting such amazing actors. First off, to the best performance of the whole movie, Robert Downey Jr. Downey plays Paul Avery, a reporter for the San Francisco Chronicle, who is caught up in the case as the crime reporter of the paper. This case consumes from the day the first letter came. Downey portrays him as an asshole who only cares about the case and treats everyone like shit. In the end he loses everything. Then we have Jake Gyllenhall as Robert Graysmith, the man who wrote the book this is based off. Graysmith is the political cartoonist for the Chronicle. He and Avery become a duo of sorts to try and solve the crimes. But Graysmith becomes obssesed as well. It consumes him, even in the beggining before it really consumes him, like making sure his son doesn't ride the bus after Zodiac says he will target school buses. We see Graysmiths general decline into obsession and frustration when it peaks when he questions the sister of Darlene Ferrin, a victim of Zodiac. We also have Mark Ruffallo as Inspector Dave Toschi, lead detective on the case. He is an eccentric family man who is obssesed with the case as well. But unlike Avery and Graysmith it doesn't consume him. But he is screwed over in the end and has to leave the case behind him. We also have great supporting performances as well from Anthony Edwards as Toschi's partner who quits after a few years because it is too much. We also have a good performance the man who plays the main suspect and probable Zodiac, Arthur Leigh Allen. The actors name has eluded me but he is very good as the sick bastard who is probably the Zodiac. The acting in this movie was downight phenominal.
David Fincher has proved that he is still an amazing filmmaker. His carrer has been very curvy. Low at "Alien 3", high with "Seven". Low with "The Game", high with "Fight Club". Low with "Panic Room", high with "Zodiac". But each of his highs are all classics. He is at his best here. Instead of focusing on a hero who kills Zodiac or some false bullshit, he sticks to the facts. He makes a police procedural that focuses on three mens investigation and obssesion with the case. He shows there is more than one way for someone to take your life. Fincher also managed to make a movie that is truly scary, never using the "boo" moment with someone popping out of nowhere. Everything in this movie is perfect. It payed off that Fincher is such a perfectionist. This is a movie for the ages, one that shouldn't be missed. Fincher has struck again.

The Godfather, Part II (1974,  R)

Die Hard 2 (Die Hard 2: Die Harder)
Decent sequel although it treads the firsts ones waters.
20
Sin City (2005,  R)
Sin City
Robert Rodriguez is a very interesting director. He broke onto the scene with the dirt cheap "El Mariachi". Than he does the sequel "Desperado" with a bigger budget. Than he makes "The Faculty", a pretty decent horror flick. Than he does four kiddie movies in a row. So what does he do next. Makes the most adult oriented, violent and fucked up comic book movie ever. Not to mention has seemingly started a new craze with shooting everything green screen as evident by "300", "The Spirit" and parts of "Watchmen". But aside from the technical aspects of the film which kick ass, the movie is just plain awesome. Balls out fucking neo noir that is a breath of fresh air. We get three stories and the leads in each are too badass for words. Mickey Rourke is perfect as Marv, the crazy mountain of a man out for revenge. Than we get Clive Owen as Dwight McCarthy who is trying to keep girls of Sin City safe from evil cop Jackie Boy (Benicio Del Toro). Finally we get Bruce Willis as John Hartigan trying to keep a girl safe from a fucked up pedophile (Nick Stahl) and his corrupt Senator father (Powers Boothe). The movie is just enticing. THe stories are great and the look of the film is beautiful. It really is like a living comic book. The acting is stellar from everybody involved. Rodriguez is a hell of a director. And he topped himself only a few years later with his next film "Grindhouse". A truly great film.

X-Men: The Last Stand
Suffered from a change in director after Singer left to do Superman Returns. Ratner shold stick to the buddy comedies he does so well. But this movie is still a good mindless action moive. The ending with Magneto just made the whole movie kinda pointless then. Thank god Ratner didn't put Chris Tucker in it.

Braveheart
Great war movie by the now infamous Gibson.
74
Cape Fear (1991,  R)
Cape Fear
Martin Scorsese's first shot at a remake. He succeeds here as well. Taking the classic movie from the 60's of the same name, he updates it. We have our lawyer Sam Bowden (Nick Nolte) who has a good life. But that all changes when an old client comes back into his life. His name is Max Cady (Robert DeNiro) and he has a vendetta to settle. Good ol Sam held out evidence that could have set him free. So Max turns Sam and Sam's family's life into a living hell. This is one of DeNiro's best roles. He is truly a horrible scumbag who you just love to hate. He is so despicable you truly feel for these people. This performance is what makes the movie better than mediocre. It raises it to a new level. It is a scary film because Max is so sick and the actors who play the Bowdens sell the fear really well. Also look out for cameos by Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum, who were both in the original.
75
Casino (1995,  R)
Casino
Another great movie from Martin Scorsese. He once again enists the help of De Niro and Pesci to make another gangster classic. About the mafia's influence in Vegas, De Niro's rise and fall and his troubles with his wife, and Pesci just being a psycho yet again. Takes too much from Goodfellas, which isn't bad, it just feels like a rehash. And holy shit, Sharon Stone can act.

Four Brothers (2005,  R)
Four Brothers
A good old revenge film with Mark Wahlberg. To me, thats an instant hit. John Singleton seems to be done with making movies to show what it's like being black. Now he's just making entertaining films. After the mediocre "2 Fast 2 Furious", he makes an amaizng film about revenge, family, betrayal, and loss. After the death of their mother, Evalyn Mercer, four adopted brothers come back to Detroit to bury her and her killers. The brothers are Bobby Mercer (Mark Wahlberg), Jeremiah Mercer (Andre 3000), Angel Mercer (Tyrese Gibson), and Jack Mercer (Garret Hedlund). These brothers are all played perfectly. Wahlberg comes of better than the rest as Bobby, the lonely oldest who takes control of the family. They first think it's a random hold up gone bad, but it turns out to be more than that. These brothers clash with alot of bad guys. This film is very violent, vulgar, and action packed. It is also a sad movie. After a shootout at the family home, one of the Mercers dies. It was shocking to see such emotion in an action movie. But it is pulled off by the amzing performances. Wahlberg really shines here and this movie kicked started a string of great roles for him (Invincible, The Departed, Shooter). He is my favorite "young" actor, and I hope he makes even more great films. This is a great movie with great performances and is higly recommened.

117
Bad Boys II (2003,  R)
Bad Boys II
Michael Bay is the man to go to for mindless action. That's really it. He doesn't care if his movies don't win Oscars. He just wants to make action movies that pump people full of adrenaline. Bad Boys 2 is his 2nd best (1st is Transformers). He reunites with Wll Smith as Mike Lowry and Martin Lawrence as Marcus Burnett. This movie really doesn't want to try to be anything other than a buddy cop action movie with a so so story. The story is just there as a catalyst to the action. Action that shows up alot. Michael Bay has crafted a great action movie with an amazing car chase made only better by the fact that it is done without CGI. This movie is funny, action packed and nothing more. A good ol action film to just watch, not analyze.
118
Seven (Se7en) (1995,  R)
Seven (Se7en)
A sick, brilliant serial killer movie where the killer kills based on the seven deadly sins. And don't look in the box.
119
Live Free or Die Hard (2007,  PG-13)
Live Free or Die Hard
Ladies and gentlemen, despite the PG-13 controversy, Live Free or Die Hard is amazing. It doensn't top 1 or 3, but it does nudge past two to make it a close third to 3. In this one, no drug dealers or villainous Grubers, but an ex government worker, Thomas Gabriel (Timothy Olyphant), with some anger issues. He gets a band of cyber nerds and they take down the infrastructure of America. They take out all the outside hacker help they get, the last being Matthew Farrell (Justin Long). Everything is going to plan. Until, of course, John McClane is thrown into the mix. The baddest motherfucking cop in all of movies has returned the same as before, albeit missing his hair. He is tasked to babysit Farrell who is a little scared of the whole situation. This movie kicks so much ass for a PG-13 movie. The action is top notch. The helicopter killing, the flipping car, the jet scene and everything else is all great. There is even a brutal fight between McClane and Gabriels girlfriend/partner in crime, Mai (Maggie Q). McClane is still spewing out great one liners (Enough of this kung fu shit) and still dishing out some immense pain. Willis is still great in the role. Long is also great in the role of the hacker who was tricked into helping out the terrorists. He become sort os a son to McClane. Farrell even helps out in the end. Another good inclusion is Mary Elisabeth Winstead as Lucy McClane, John's daughter who is kidnapped by Gabriel after McClane causes too much trouble. She is the perfect mix of John and Holly. Gabriel and Farrell event mention as much. Olyphant is good in the role of the villain. He is different than all the others because he is a brain. He never eally gets his hands dirty till the end. He shouldn't be compared to the Gruber, Hans and Simon (Alan Rickman and Jeromy Irons), but he will. My only gripe is, shockingly enough, the rating. The language. Not the lack thereof. But the fact that I noticed many instances of dubbing for language. Another gripe is the lack of blood. Sure, McClane gets fucked up and bloody, but there are plenty of up close bullet wounds that just shoot out dust. What is McClane fighting mummies? There is a memorable death scene, a man getting dropped into what I could only guess is a freezer fan. This would have been better if blood shot out everywhere. Those are my only complaints. A great movie, that will get an R rated DVD with the language and I hear some CGI blood. One of the few sequels that didn't dissapoint this year (ahem, Pirates, ahem). A great summer movie that is going to be followed by Transformers.

Once Upon a Time in America
An amazing movie by Sergio Leone. A tale about Jewish gangsters starring De Niro and Woods is phenominal. From their youths to their crime riddled adulthood, it's a very sad movie. Half a point off because it's really too long to watch more than once.

Bubba Ho-Tep (2003,  R)
Bubba Ho-Tep
Another really funny movie with Bruce Campbell. The story is so crazy, it makes the movie what it is. Elvis is still alive, living in a retirement home. He then teams up with a living, now black JFK, who thinks the government dyed him to hide him. A really funny movie and a unique premise.

Escape from New York
Another classic from John Carpenter. He moves from horror to a futuristic action movie. The acting is horrible, except for Russell who is amazing as usual. John Carpenter knew how to make movies back then. Gerard Butler will never outdo Kurt Russel. "The name is Plissken."

Tombstone (1993,  R)
Tombstone
The last great western movie. Taking the story of Wyatt Earp would seem to be a been there, done that kind of movie. But Kurt Russell rocks the shit as Earp. The story is really good, except for the Wyatt affair thing. The acting is great and the action is good. Now all that makes this an 8 out of 10. But Val Kilmers carrer performance as Doc Holiday makes this movie even better. Doc: "I have two guns, one for each of ya." Classic.

Raiders of the Lost Ark (Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark) (1981,  PG)
Raiders of the Lost Ark (Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark)
Truly the best adventure movie around. The sequels had no way to top this. But they still kicked ass, with Temple kicking the least amount of ass and Crusade kicking second most. Hopefully Crystal Skull can top Temple. If it can top Crusade than alright. But if it can somehow top Raiders, then thats the biggest Holy Fucking Shit moment. I love how this movie has supernatural elements in it and this is less ridiculous than National Treasure.

Knocked Up (2007,  R)
Knocked Up
Knocked up truly delivers. The first great comedy of the year, Judd Apatow truly delivers in his follow up to 40 Year Old Virgin. It isn't as quotable as Virgin, but it is truly funny. Half a star off for the unnecessary vag shots.

Hostel: Part II
Eli Roth has made a a horror sequel better than it's predecessor, like Evil Dead 2 or The Devil's Rejects. Knowing that we now what is going to happen, Eli just lets the movie flow. And a good addition is to show two man who are going to torture our stars. It's a bold move, along with a bidding scene that shows these people appear to be normal. The ending which has been hyped is a bit of a dissapointment, Not to say it's bad, it just ends so abruptly. But the best part about the end is Eli adds his own twist to a mexican standoff. The gore is great, the torture scenes are graphic and terrifying, and the movie is great.

The Devil's Rejects
After hearing Rob zombie was doing "Halloween", i was a little worried. I mean he has only made two movies and they were both connected to each other. And both were different than the style that "Halloween" is. That's what I heard anyway. I decided to rent his first two films. I couldn't watch "Corpses" because the cinematography was horrible. So I watched "The Devils Rejects", and i have to say I loved it. It was a masterpiece of horror cinema for this generation. Rob Zombie may have made a graphic, bloody, vulgar movie is because it's about a family of physcopaths and the sheriff out for revenge. It's like watching the Manson family at work. He also has better cinematography, great music accompanying the movie, and masterful performances. His wife Sheri is great at the sexy but crazy Baby Firefly. Bill Mosely is funny yet scary as the necrofeliac brother Otis Driftwood. Sid Haig becomes the crazy filthy clown Captain Spaulding. William Forsythe is amazing in his performance as Sherrif Wydell, who is searching for the Firefly family because they killed his brother. This movie is great, it should be both looked at and not looked at for what to expect in Halloween. Expect some violence, great performances, and a tight bond between characters. Just don't judge him to quickly. He may be the next big director.

Léon (The Professional) (1994,  R)
Léon (The Professional)
First off, i wanna say that this movie was a little weird. I mean, you get a french director to do a movie about an italian hitman in Little Italy, the hitman mind you is french as well, and it has the hitman finding the meaning of life. It's wierd from the get go. But it is still pretty good. The interactions between the hitman (Jean Reno) and the girl (Natalie Portman). The violence is done pretty well. The villain, a crooked nutjob DEA agent is played amazingly well by the always great Gary Oldman. The ending is preety good, shocking and sad but a preety good way to fuck the villain over. I took two stars off because off my gripes stated above, and for the fact that Luc Besson seemed like he was trying to make a Scorsese movie. Watching this, i felt Scorsese would have been better suited for this, considering his past works on the crime genre and his knowledge of Little Italy. But this is still and entertaining piece.

Running Scared (2006,  R)

Halloween (2007,  R)
Halloween
Rob Zombie?s ?Halloween?. It is a very controversial movie. Not because of it?s content. But because it is a remake of a beloved horror classic by John Carpenter. Also the fact that people don?t respect the kind of style that Rob Zombie brings to the table. So a lot of people have a very negative opinion of this movie. And most of these people haven?t even seen the movie. Well, I have seen the movie. And it is one of, if not, the best horror movies to come out in recent memory.
First off, the prequel part of the story works extremely well. We don?t get an answer as to why Michael is the evil monster he becomes. We just get some reasons as to what pushes him over the edge. He is obviously evil before the fateful night he finally kills. Also the parts in Smiths Grove are good as well. We see Dr. Loomis try to help Michael. But Michael doesn?t know he killed anyone. We also see Michael fall into the mute psychopath we will all come to love.
The remake part is done extremely well. I feel this is the best act of the movie. We are given some familiar scenes, such as Michael watching Laurie when she is in school or the scene where Michael wears the sheet. But everything is given changes such that it all feels fresh.
The kills are done in such a vicious way that this ?Halloween? has the best kills out of all of them, beating out the shotgun impaling from 4. They aren?t very inventive, but this movie is about a killer trying to kill. If I wanted some inventive kills, I?d watch the ?Saw? movies again. Not many of these scenes are graphic, except for a throat slashing and throat being ripped out. Yes, out. But the movie is still bloody as hell. A lot of people have complained about blood being in it since the original didn?t have any. But my response is, where on God?s green Earth does no blood come out when you are stabbed? Exactly.
The cast, for the most part, is good. Daeg Faerch is very creepy as little Mike, making him seem innocent one moment and then creepy the next. Tyler Mane has made the best masked Michael Myers of the series. Mane is such a force to be reckoned with in this movie, Michael is scary again. Malcolm McDowell is a great Loomis. He is a caring person but also a sort of sleazy person. Scout Taylor-Compton is a great replacement as Laurie Strode. She has an innocence to her but also a grown up side to her as well. The only real weak link in the movie is, no one. Every delivers, some better than most.
I love everything about this movie except for the ending. It?s still a good ending, but it leaves things a little to open. But it is satisfying in a way to see a different ending that makes for the inevitable sequel, which will probably be similar and different than the original sequel. Overall, this is an amazing movie, a classic in my book. It is one of the best remakes ever, one of the best horror movies ever and the second best ?Halloween? ever. But it is not for everyone. And be sure to expect a different movie than the original or you will be disappointed.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007,  PG)
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
I am probably one of the few to have really enjoyed Fantastic Four. Maybe it was the lighthearted feel to it that was different than all the other comic book adaptions, but it worked for me. So I'm glad that the sequel is better than the first. We have the planet devoring entity Galactus, who is a smoke cloud in this, and his servant, the Silver Surfer. We also have a reappearance by Dr.Doom. He isn't as much a presence in this one, just a bit of a hindrance. The effects are amazing. Silver Surfer is done really well. Laurence Fishburne does a great job at voicing him. Also, Johnny Storm is even better in this one. Chris Evans must enjoy the role because he tops himself in the sequel. Overall, i enjoyed it. But alot of people won't.

Transformers (2007,  PG-13)
Transformers
This is one of the best action films ever conceived. First off you got Michael Bay, who is just an amzing action movie director. He pulls action off so well. Secondly, it has giant fighting robots. So we know it is bound for action movie fans. This movie is amazing all around. Let's just get the story out of the way. Good robots want to stop bad robots from getting a cube that can destroy the universe. That's all that is needed. The film, shockingly, focuses more on the humans than Transformers. But it is pulled off well by a great performance by Shia Lebeouf. Also good parts from Jon Voight, John Turturro, Megan Fox, and others. Now, the Transformers are incredibly well made. These effects guys really put their all into this film. The look of the Transformers and the transformations themselves are amazing. This is the best CGI ever. Yes, ever. This film will go down as a benchmark for special effects, next to Star Wars and The Matrix. This is such a thrill to watch because of it's action and comedy. I also liked the nods to past Bay films, from a direct mention of Armageddon to a camera technique lifted from a Bad Boys 2 shootout. I highly reccomend this film for all. It will not dissapoint for fans of the cinema. Except for assholes like my firend Mike, who feels that Frank Darabont should have made this with Morgan Freeman narrating. But for everyone else, a must see.

Lat sau san taam (Hard-Boiled) (1992,  R)
Lat sau san taam (Hard-Boiled)
This is one of the greatest action movies ever made. Made by John Woo before leaving for America, he wanted to make an epic swan song. Well he did. He enlisted his frequent collaborator, Chow Yun-Fat as Inspector Tequila, our hero. The story is about him trying to stop a mob boss who deals guns and because his partner died. But the story takes a back seat to the amazing action. When there is action it is relentless. The slow mo and dual wielding is perfect here. I also love when bullet wounds are in display, and this movie has plenty. This movie also takes no prisoners. Civilians, cops, and gangsters are the people who die in this movie. Killing civilians was a ballsy move and I'm glad John Woo did it. We also have the best all time shootout at the end in a hospital that goes on for a while but doesn't drag. They also decide to have Tequila shoot some guys with a baby in his arms. When I see an actyion movie, I want a decent story with plenty of good action. Since I like crime stories and this has well put together action scenes, this gets a perfect 10.

The day I went to see the Simpsons movie is a day that will live in infamy. One of the funniest days that I have lived through. So upon going to see the movie I was worried it wouldn't live up due to the events prior. But it did. It was so funny. It was everything i hoped. It wasn't the funniest movie of the year, second only to Knocked Up. But it was just a really funny movie, nothing more, nothing less.

Ah well. It's time I come out and say it. I like this movie. It's a guilty pleasure movie. But I am no longer ashamed. It's a pretty funny. Heath Ledger is great, as usual. Julia Stiles is good. Joesph Gordon Levitt is good as the love struck kid. The cast is great. Has some great moments, like Heath singing in the bleachers. Overall, a good movie.

This movie is a milestone in the horror genre. John Carpenter has crafted his masterpiece with this work of art. Very gory art, but art nonetheless. It's ironic, considering that Carpenters best and one of horrors best film is a... REMAKE!. Great tension all around, the gore is still really good. Thats what makes it even better. It has aged very well. It looks great on HD DVD. Kurt Russell is yet again the fucking man. An epic movie.

Nolan's masterpiece (if TDK doesn't live up to the hype) is one of the best movies ever. It is a complete mind fuck. Guy Pearce is great as always. I love the originality of the movie. A great neo noir. Thankfully Nolan has lived up to his name after this, unlike other guys who die out (I'm looking at you Shymalan). A great flick.

Brokeback Mountain
When Brokeback Mountain came out, I didn't want to see it. One reason is because I was a 15 year old homophobe. But who isn't at at 15. But as time went on and hearing the critical acclaim and all the fuss, I became interested. Also as time went on, I started to watch alot of Heath Ledgers movies. He started to become one of my favorite actors. So i decided it was time to watch Brokeback. And I'm so glad I did. This movie was an amazing portrait of the lives of the two cowboys who are in love with each other. I would only say that Jack Swift (Jake Gylennhall) is gay because he hits on some guys during the movie. But Ennis Del Mar (Heath Ledger) isn't fully gay. He only would be with one man and that is Jack. But they're love for each other eats away at them, ruining Ennis' marriage and making Jack feel very alone. It's avery well made movie that would have been a nine if it wasn't for Heath Ledger's outstanding performance. It is one of the best performances I have ever seen. Just below DeNiro and Pacino, Ledger makes Ennis a real person and gives him real emotion. The best example is at the end of the movie when he is in Jack's old bedroom. It is very heartbreaking. All in all, this is an amzing movie that should be seen by all, if only to see Ledger's performance. I now need to see Capote to see if Hoffman was better, which I seriously doubt. I also feel that Brokeback should have won instead of Crash.

Shoot 'Em Up
Such a kickass action film. Clive Owen is great as the bad ass loner. Paul Giamatti is great as the bad guy. But the best part is the ridcuolusly over the top action. So many great shoot outs. The best has to be the shootout when parachuting. Overall, a great action flick that's meant to relax to.

The Wind That Shakes the Barley (2007,  Unrated)
The Wind That Shakes the Barley
Such an amazing movie. The story of two brothers in the Irish fight for freedom and their civil war. Cillian Murphy gives an amazing performance as Damien O'Donovan. Padraic Delaney is also great as Teddy O'Donovan. The cast all around is great. It is a very powerful movie with an unflinching look at the violence by the English. Also a good look at the toll the civil war took. A very powerful, sad movie. I came close to tears. And for me, that's as far as I go.

We Own the Night (2007,  R)
We Own the Night
I really liked this film. It was different then expected. I didn't expect a Departed ripoff like some people say, but different. I like how the characters change throughout the movie. Joaquin is really good as Bobby, who goes through the most changes. Wahlberg is yet again putting in a good performance. Duvall is never wrong and it's always nice to see him. Mendez is alright but they could have tried for someone alittle better. The best scene in this movie is defintely the car chase in the rain. It as so masterfully done. This goes to show you that you don't need loud crashes for a chase to work well. The drug lab scene was also very well done and took a turn I didn't see coming. All in all, a good old fashioned crime drama. I hope to see more of James Gray and I will defintely check out his other films.

Upon second viewing, I still really enjoy this movie, so I am happy that it holds up on muliple viewings. So i give it an even

No Country for Old Men
Wow. That's what was going through my head when I was watching this movie. It far excedeed my expectations. The performances where top notch, especially by Javier Bardem. The violence was brutal. Even after reading the book, the movie was very suspenseful. I think the most striking aspect of this movie is the lack of any music. There is no score throughout and that just adds to the mood. And I think the ending worked very well. Also the shootout between Chigurh and Moss is an amazing scene. Kudos all around. need to see one of two more times to decide where it ranks this year.

The Mist (2007,  R)
The Mist
This movie has so much balls. I loved the shit out of this movie. Frank Darabont is defintely one of the best directors ever. This is a classic horror film in all forms. It makes you feel so emotional that it hurts. The movie starts off kind of slowly but then turns into a non stop ride. The violence is great and done gratuitously well. The creatures look great. The acting is top notch, especially from Thomas Jane and Mrcia Gay Harden. jane is so great as David that he makes you feel everything he feels. Harden is so perfectly crazy that she makes you so pissed off. I also have to give a shoutout to Toby Jones for his turn as Ollie. Ollie was great. And the ending of this movie is too good. It may not be the ending from the book, but so fucking what? The ending is much more powerful and emotional. Darabont proves his genius here with such a classic ending. I may not like the book, but I can't wait to see Faranheit 451 with Darabont behind the lens. Everyone should see this movie, even though many will hate it for it's amazing ending.

Miller's Crossing (1990,  R)
Miller's Crossing
I really like gangster/crime movies, and this one didn't disapoint. I have only seen two Coen movie, this and No Country. I have to say No Counry is my favorite of the two. I plan on watching Barton Fink and The Big Lebowski soon. But back to this. It was a good movie. We are put into this world and it feels like a functioning world. The characters are all fleshed out and everyone does their job good. It gets alittle tedious at points and the beginning is alittle confusing, but thats just because we are just put into this world. All in all, a good gangster film.

Schindler's List (1993,  R)
Schindler's List
One of the saddest movies of all time. Spielberg finally made a good WWI related movie (Empire was mediocre). Everything in this film is spot on. The black and white just feels right. It makes it that much more depressing. The acting is perfect. Neeson is great, transforming from greedy to savior. Fiennes is great as the psychotic Goeth. Kingsley is great as Stern, the jewish accountant. But i think the most effective thing abouit this movie is the violence and reactions. The violence is done so realisitcally it's shocking. And everyone's response to the violence is so depressing. This movie is so haunting. It is defintely a classic.

Sidenote, the scene where Goeth's guns jams is so tense. yet i laugh everytime. It's very tense than Goeth just says "Jesus Christ", and I fall over laughing. Great use of black comedy.

Pretty good movie. It was pretty weird though. The acting was great all around. It seems that David Fincher is one of the few directors who can get Pitt to act. Norotn is great, as usual. I still hate Carter. I may have to watch this a few more times to fully understand.

A pretty good movie. I think it's really overrated. Nicholson is of course great because he is actually acting in this movie. Duvall annyoyed me. The kid was okay until h tried to look scared. It was a very tense movie, i just think the dialouge was a little stupid except for Jack's, and the acting wasn't so good. Except for Jack of course. I'll probably watch this again another day.

What a fucking movie. Tarantino just knows how to make a good story. Every movie he makes has great characters. This one is cock full of them. The best though has to be either Drexel (Gary oldman) or Floyd (Brad Pitt). The acting in this movie is great. Who knew that Slater could act. Brad Pitt showed me yet again that he could act. Then the best scene of the movie, the sicilian history scene. All in all a great movie.

Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story
In a time where most spoofs suck dick like "Epic Movie", its nice to see someone is willing to make a good spoof. Apatow and company really know how to make people laugh. It's a silly kind of movie, but it also seems like it was made to be a real story. They play on the conventions but it seems like a rergular story. It sounds weird, but when you see it you will understand. The best part for me has to be the end. It's so funny and sad at the same time. These guys are geniuses.

I Am Legend
Will Smith puts in a very good performance here. I would like to see him nominated for this performance. he probably won't win, with dealing with Daniel Day Lewis this year, but his performance is great. The story is very good, with Smith trying to develop a cure and living alone. The effects are adequate. I have to give kudos for the scene with Smith looking for the dog in the nest. Very well made scene. I think Francis Lawrence has a bright future ahead of him. After making the severly underrated Constantine, he has made a very human orientated popcorn flick, which is quite an achievement.

I didn't really have a problem with the theatrical ending. Sure it wasn't that good, but I could live with it. But the alternate ending on the DVD is much better in my opinion. I feel that it fits better.

Blade Runner (1982,  R)
Blade Runner
After my friend constantly bugging me to see the movie and the new Final Cut coming out, I decided to see Blade Runner. And it didn't dissapoint. I don't think it's the greatest movie ever, but maybe I need to see it again to completely appreciate it. What really surprised me is how relativelty short it is. Coming in at under two hours, it's short for the kind of movie it is. I also like the ending. I liked it, but not a mind blowing experience.

Fargo (1996,  R)
Fargo
I decided to watch this movie to further my knowledge of The Coen Bros' filmography. It is a very well made movie about a dumbass car salesman hiring two idiots to kidnapp his wife to rip off her father. It's all done really well, and from what I have seen so far, a very Coen Bros way. There were some parts that annoyed me and I would have done away with, but it is all in all a good movie with some very good performances.

Children of Men (2006,  R)
Children of Men
What a fucking movie. Man o man, I really never got into the whole dystopian kind of genre. Never been my thing. But after hearing countless praise for this film, I decided to see it. And man were they right. After every woman in the world can't reproduce, the world turns to shit. And it is done in such a realistic way. The iron fisted governement, the different groups on how to fix the problem, the terrorist groups and the ghost company that give people hope. Clive Owen owns, proving that he really is great. The best part is the cinematography, it just feels so natural. And Cuaron, just like Tarantino, can really shoot a long take, which I love. It really did get fucked over at the Oscars. It should have been nominated for alot more. It wasn't best picture (The Departed was better) and if Scorsese wasn't nominated, Cuaron should have won, being Scorsese earned his overdue Oscar.

There Will Be Blood (2007,  R)
There Will Be Blood
Daniel Day Lewis jsut owned this movie. He really took it up a notch for this film. And that's saying something for Lewis. The movie was pretty fucking good. Shows the rise and fall of Daniel Plainview, from shit heel silver miner to oil tycoon. It also shows his relationship with his son. The movie is also about the battle of sorts between Daniel and Eli Sunday. It all culminates in the end, which is a gret fucking ending. I feel this isn't as good as NCFOM, but i don't think neither is best of the year. I feel Zodiac was. But that just shows you what a year it was for movies. And as for my review, I'm finished.

Death Sentence (2007,  R)
Death Sentence
I like revenge movies. I really liked the old Death Wish movies and was excited when I heard about this one. Being from the director of Saw, I had to see it. Kevin Bacon is good in the role of the father who just loses it aafter his oldest son is murdered. He goes after the killers, but it doesn't go smoothly. The thing I liked about the movie was how it dealt with the emotions of the violence. The violence was also well done. With a nice balance of emtoion and violence, it is a good movie.

Casino Royale
This is my favorite bond movie. maybe it's a generational thing, but i never really got into the other Bond films. The only Bond related item I liked was Goldeneye for the N64. But this is a great movie. Bond is actually treated like a spy and he is a truly great character in this movie. We see what turns him into what he will become. The action is great. More specifically, the fight scenes. They are tough ass, hard hitting fight scenes. Those alone make this movie worth watching, adding the great story, beautiful locations, the best Bond from Craig, and the hottest Bond girl. What I think makes this so good is it is treated like a movie, not like another Bond film. I really like this movie. Freaking great.

Alien (1979,  R)
Alien
Jaws in space seems like a fair statement. Considering I liked both but think each is overrated. ALien is a very tense horror film, filled to the brim with atmosphere. This shows that a horror movie can be bloody, but not gory. I liked how it takes its sweet as time to get to the alien and it pays off. But with it taking it's sweet ass time, it kind of bored me a little bit. But it kept my interest long enough to get to the kick off. All in all, a great movie. Can't wait for Aliens to come in my Netflix.

Cloverfield (2008,  PG-13)
Cloverfield
After the long wait, it is finally here. Since the very first trailer with Transformers, I have been anxious to see this movie. And I saw it and I liked it alot. It goes against Hollywood monster movie traditions. I really dig the handheld camera way of shooting this. It added more to the movie, for me at least. I also like how it is short. It makes it so it doesn't try to add too much, making t a good length. I also kida like ther monster. It's different and I have to see it a few more times to dig it. I also like the little monsters. The only negatives was it dragged alittle in the beggining. Also, it was alittle annoying to see them walk up flights of stairs. But i really dug this movie. I really hope this becomes an expanded universe. it can because it's making alot of money and JJ Abrams is behind it. I also hope to see from Matt Reeves because he did a great job here. I think it was worth the wait, and I can't wait for more.

Aliens (1986,  R)
Aliens
James Cameron should be given every sequel to a classic movie. He made T2 better by miles than Terminator 1. And he just blows Alien out of the water with Aliens. The movie is a completely different animal than the first. Where Ridley Scott decided to make a slow, tense horror film, Cameron makes a movie that slowly rides to the climax which is balls to the wall. Going to action route was very smart because Cameron probably realized he couldn't make a tense horror movie that was better than Scotts. So he takes the series into a different genre and it is better than the original. The action is great, the effects are actually really good and the acting is good all around. They probably should have left it at this, but I'm anxious to see what Fincher did with Alien 3. The directors cut, not the theatrical cut.

Rambo (Rambo IV)
After hearing Stallone was coming back for another "Rambo" movie, I wasn't too excited. Until the red band trailer released and all the violence just swayed me. I became excited. A week after seeing the great "Cloverfield", I see another kick in the pants to a genre. The action genre. THis movie is balls to the wall. I loved the serious tone of this. It took it self seriously. The violence was gloriously gory. It takes it's time with sporadic bursts of violence until the last 20 minutes or so. The end is just balls to the wall, fuck everyone you see up. It is amazing. I also liked how it came full circle with the last minute or so. I would like to see Stallone make a DVD that puts First Blood and this together, tying up Rambo's life.

Alien 3 (1992,  R)
Alien 3
I really don't think this movie was necessary. Cameron seemed to make a good ending to the Alien franchise. But they made 3 anyway, yet it still came out pretty good. Fincher showed alot of promise here. It fucking sucks that he disowned this movie because his version is pretty good. It's like the first one, more tension than action. I don't like how everyone died except Ridley on her ship. But I see what they went for. Her being alone again. I also wished they dealt more with the religion aspect, seeing almost every character is religious. But it's still good, with good violence. I like the Alien's kills more than the others. But the others were better. Still enjoyable. Nice ending to what I consider now a trilogy. One of the best in history. I don't plan on seein Ressurection.

Holy shit. That was my thought when this masterpiece finished. I really did not expect this movie to be so good. I heard good things, but I never thought I was walking into a stroke of genius. Danny Boyle seems to be hitting his stride. The sun is dying and Icarus II is sent to spark it back. We get to see as these characters interact with each other until something happens they don't expect. Icarus I, which has long been lost, is sending out a distress signal. After some debate, the crew of Icarus II decide to check out the ship. This is when the shit starts to hit the fan. Everything moves at such a natural pace. The acting is all around great, everyone putting their A game in. The visuals are amazing. I was blown away by the visuals. My only gripe, and not even really a gripe is how the climax is set into play. I had no problem with it, just some questions that I am glad weren't answered. But i can see where others would not be happy with the ending. I love this movie. I wish I saw it in theatres. But I am glad it was the first movie I watched with my new surround sound system. In my opinion, the best sci fi movie i have seen. I am seriously considering putting this into my top ten. But it may make the top 15. But it is nonetheless great.

Bringing Out the Dead (1999,  R)
Bringing Out the Dead
Scorsese, even when he makes a decent movie, is better than most. This is a pretty good look at the life of a man who lives in the New York night life. I don't particularly like Cage, but there are times when he shows he can act. THis is one of them. The movie is not that great. Some scenes are a little boring but it does well enough. Kudos however to the cinematographer. A beautifully shot movie. A good flick, not Scorsese best but still better than most.

3:10 to Yuma
This movie kicked ass. Bale was great as Dan Evans, a man constantly down on his luck trying to prove himself. Crowe is amazing as the cold blooded thief/killer Ben Wade. Foster is good as Charley, but I don't think he stole the show like most say. He was still good though. The action was well done as well as the slow parts. All in all, a kickass western. Hopefully this brings back the interest in westerns because I do like them, even if I haven't seen alot.

Gone Baby Gone
What a surprise. Even after hearing all the good things about this movie, I was still shocked. Ben Affleck should stay behind the camera. He really has a talent as being a creator behind the scenes. Casey Affleck deserves to stay in front of the camera more. He is very good in this flick. The movie really hooked me in and had me thinking about what I would do. Casey does things I would have done differently but other choices are similar. Harris is great here as usual as well as Ryan and Ashton. Monahan really did nothing except jump into lake and hurt Casey. All in all, a good film that makes me excited to see more of the Afflecks.

American Gangster (2007,  R)
American Gangster
After all the hype surrounding this movie, I was very excited when I sat down in the theatre. The movie started and I was hooked. The movie is different from many gangster films. Many people I know compare it to the overrated Scarface of our generation. But it is much better than Scarface. And it has so much less action, violence, and curses. It is a morality tale and a tale of contradictions. The cop is by the books wiith a screwed up personal life. The gangster is a ruthless business man with a good family life. It shows how everything is not black and white. The performances where amazing. Crowe again is perfect, Washington is better than ever, and Josh Brolin puts in a memorable supporting role. The direction is great by Ridley Scott, the script is great by Steve Zaillian. Everything in this movie is great, except that some scenes are a little too long. There are two, in my opinion, iconic scenes in this movie. One is Denzel popping a guy on the streets in broad daylight. The other is Russell Crowe and his crew walking up to the drug den.

Watching the extended version, I fell in love with this movie again. As I rewatched this, I realized that Richie Roberts is a great character. One of my favorite chracters of all time. So flawed yet you can't help but root for him. Crowe really blew me away in this movie. The exteneded version is much longer (an extra 20 minutes) but it is well worth it. My only gripe was the way the movie ended. Not the whole extended ending, but the last seconds. Other than that, an improvement upon an already classic crime drama.

Crank (2006,  R)
Crank
Such a badass film. Lets just get this out of the way. Don't hink too much when you watch this. Just sit back, unwind and let the insanity ensue. Statham is great here. Better than his more popular "Transporter" movies. The movie is restless and doesn't stop. The movie starts quick and ends quick. The ending is also too perfect. It also sets it up for a sequel (somewhat). A great action film. But compared to other over the top action films, like the Superior "Shoot Em Up", it isn't the best but still fucking good.

Jackie Brown (1997,  R)
Jackie Brown
The least remembered Tarantino film is really fucking good. It's alot better than the overrtaed pieces of shit, Kill Bill. It's also better than the underrated "Death Proof". The acting is, no shock here, really good. Props to DeNiro for playing a character so against type. Louis is such a great character, the idiot who is friends with Ordell. The story is pretty tight with some boring scenes. The soundtrack was very good. I love "Across 110th Street" and I love the use of it in movies like this and "American Gangster". The movie all around was really good and should be given a go.

Eastern Promises (2007,  R)
Eastern Promises
Viggo Mortensen is great in this film. He just becomes a russian gangster. He really did deserve the nom for best actor, yet he sadly had to compete against Daniel Day Lewis. Fucking bummer. But anyway, the movie is pretty good. I didn't like the whole plot involving Naomi Watts. But the parts with the gangsters made up for it. And of course, the Sauna fight was just classic. So fucking brutal. Wow. The violecne was also very gruesome, just in yuor face. Throat slashings aplenty, better than the shitty slashings in Sweeney Todd. Overall good, but nothing groundbreaking.

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007,  R)
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
A pleasant surprise. This movie was made very well. The actors are all good, especially from Pitt and Affleck. Pitt can act if he is given a good director and Affleck is really coming into his own. The cinematography is beautiful, it should have won the oscar for cinematography. I also really dug the score. The best part of the movie is the assassination itself. It is shot so beautifully and executed so well, it is a wonderful yet bittersweet payoff. I like how they show Jese James for what he was. That he wasn't the greatest man alive. He was a crook and alittle fucking crazy. A great movie and should have gotten more recognition.

Pretty good sports comedy. Not Ferrells best, that being Anchorman. But it alot funnier than Talladega Nights. It's vulgar, which I liked. There isn't much to write home about. Its good overall and makes me still like Ferrell and his cadre of comedians. I am very excited now to see "Step Brothers".

Gladiator
Yes, it is overrated. But it is still a badass epic film. Russell Crowe is a badass and deserved the nomination at least. Joaquin Phoenix is pretty good as the little deceitful Commudus. The only problems I had was that it was alittle too long. But the action scenes made up for it and the movie was put together well. Ridley Scott is climbing my list of favorite directors.

Dead Silence (2007,  R)
Dead Silence
A pretty decent horror flick. For a while, horror seemed to be down the shitter. But we are getting a resurgence. Sure, some people aint gonna like the new horror, those people being fans of older horror. But I like the way they are now. I still like old school though. And this movie has alot of old school, mixed with new school. I dig James Wan as a director. He has a very stylish way of making movies. Not everyone is gonna like it of course. This movie is your typical old school ghost stroy. Evil ghost is killing people. It may not be ground breaking, but it's entertaning. And sometimes, it's scary. What i really like is the ending. It aint horror movie classic ending like "Saw" but it defintely a good ending.

Traffic (2000,  R)
Traffic
This ws the best movie of 2001. It was much better than Gladiator. Yet another travesty commited by the Academy. A hell of an epic tale set in the middle of the war on drugs. We follow Michael Douglas as a newly appointed Drug Czar who has to deal with his daughters drug problems. Then we got Catherine Zeta Jones as the wife of a drug trafficker dealing with the realities of life alone when her husband is arrested. I love how they got Manolo himself from Scarface, Steven Bauer, to play the drug trafficker. We aslo get Don Cheadle as a narc trying to take down the drug dealing husband. Then we finally get to Benicio Del Toro as Tijuana cop Javier Rodriguez. Del Toro is the best in the movie, playing a straight laced cop who just wants to help Tijuana. His scenes are the best in the movie. We also get alot of familiar faces in small roles. The only weak link I could see in the movie was Zeta Jones. She just didn't do it for me. This was Del Toro's best role by a mile. I wish he would do better movies, excluding Sin City. I also felt this was Don Cheadles best role so far. I felt Hotel Rwanda was higly overrated and he just didn't have much to work with their. The stories in this were very powerful, the acting was top notch and the cinematogrphy was unique. All in all, a great movie.

Big Trouble in Little China (1986,  PG-13)
Big Trouble in Little China
When Carpenter and Russell get together, you know it's gonna be a good time. This one ain't no exception. It's pure fun, right up there with Escape From New York. It's just 80's cheese to the extreme and I loved every minute. Russell again is a badass motherfucker as Jack Burton. Burton is a great character. The only thing in the movie that annoyed me was how shitty the gunshots sounded. Even when we were right next to a guy with a gun, it sounded like someone was shooting from a mile away. But it's only a minor blemish on this fun fantasy flick.

A damn funny movie. The characters are great and the the laughs are everywhere. Even though it starts a little slow in the beginning it starts to move along until the explosive finale. It may not be the funniest movie ever, but it is really funny and manages to work as an action movie too.

Before the Devil Knows You're Dead (2007,  R)
Before the Devil Knows You're Dead
It never ceases to amaze me how the academy can overlook something so good and give praise a big piece of shit. I mean, how did the acadmey overlook Hoffman and even Hawkes performance in this yet give Depp praise for playing a murderous Jack Sparrow? This movie is amazing. It starts off kind of weird, with Hoffman doing Tomei from behind, but it was great to see her naked. Then it kicks into gear and play like a Tarantino movie with the jumping around in the structure. But it doesn't feel like it's trying to be a ripoff. It is very much it's own movie. Hoffman in this was amazing. Much better than his nominated role for "Charlie Wilsons War". Ethan Hawke also shows us that he can act again. Tomei seems to have been revitalized after showing up on Rescue Me comes back here and shows us why she has an oscar. Albert Finney is also really good as the father of the story. This movie is a dark movie that isn't for everyone. But it is really good. Fuck you Academy.

This movie was pretty good. Jones was great as usual. I think there were others who were better than him this year like Russell Crowe in American Gangster or Phillip Seymore Hoffman in Before The Devil Knows Your Dead. I think it shows how the war is affecting the soldiers. It may not though, I'd have to ask my cousins who are out there. It really does nothin mind blowing. It's good for one viewing and thats about it.

Kill Bill: Volume 1
This movie is the defintion of watching a movie you didn't like the first time around for a second time and liking it. Actually, I love it. I was in a big Tarantino mood this weekend, so I went through my DVD's of Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Jackie Brown and Death Proof. But there were some missing. True Romance (yeah, Tony Scott made it but he wrote it) and Kill Bill. I decided to rent it and loved it. It was actually shocking to me. The violence was great. The movie is just great. I am now excited to see Volume 2.

The Matrix Reloaded
After watching the first in philosophy, I was compelled to see the sequels. I haven't rewatched Revolutions yet, but I did get through Reloaded and liked it a bit more the second time around. There are parts that really just bring the movie to a halt. Like the rave scene where Neo and Trinity bone. That just halted it for me. But the parts that work work really fucking well. One of the best fight scenes I have ever seen is Neo vs the group of Smith's. It easily outmatches any of the fights from the first one. One problem with the fight though is the special effects. It just looks so blatantly fake and some parts where it's used just didn't need to be cgi'ed. But the fight still makes me stop and watch, no matter what I?m doing. I dig the fact that they wanted to split it up into two sequels. But from what I remember, Revolutions sucked. But I plan on going back to it and rewatching. I like how this one ended. A nice cliffhanger that worked well. Hopefully I can appreciate the third more on a second viewing as well.

Kill Bill, Volume 2 (2004,  R)
Kill Bill, Volume 2
A very good end to a great epic revenge stroy. I say epic because this is the second part of, basically, one movie that would span close to 4 hours. But it is not as violent as the first half. But Quentin shows us why he is so great. After moving the plot along with violence in the first half, he goes back to his roots by moving the plot along with dialouge. Thats not to say there isn't any violence. Just toned down alot more than the first half. Uma shows us why Tarantino loves using her in movies. She easily goes from vengeful warrior and to loving mother with ease. David Carradine is great as the famous Bill, playing much more than what could have been a cardboard cutout of a villain. Michael Madsen finally returns to a Tarantino movie since Reservoir Dogs. And he is good at the role here. And Daryl Hannah is good as Elle, but she just looks like the biggest skeeze. I just don't like her in anything she's in. With a finale that only Tarantino could have created, we are brought to the end of Kill Bill. Hopefully he does return to this world with the planned anime prequels and the possible sequel. Also, I really would like to see Tarantino finally release the long planned DVD "Kill Bil: The Whole Bloody Affair" because don't want the barebones DVD's they have now.

P.S. Lookout for a Samuel L. Jackson cameo.

Kingdom of Heaven (2005,  R)
Kingdom of Heaven
I liked this more than Gladiator. Yep, I said it. Maybe because I watched the directors cut and not the theatrical cut, but this movie was the shit. I dug the story more than Gladiators. The performances were better in Gladiator, but almost everything else is better in this. The violence was better, the dialouge was better, and the girl was better. Eva Green is gorgeous. I love her. Also, Orlando Bloom wasn't bad in this. He showed me he can be decent in this and Ned Kelly. Ridley Scott is a hell of a director who, even after making classics back in the day like Alien and Blade Runner, is becoming better and better. Just look at his films since Gladiator. Black Hawk Down, Kingdom of Heaven, American Gangster. He is on a roll. I can't wait for his next film.

Cidade de Deus (City of God)
It is a pretty good film. I give it credit for it no holds barred look at the life in Rio. But it just didn't hook me like other crime films. It's also very overrated. It should not be the 17th highest rated movie on IMDB. But i do like it. I'd watch it again.

From Dusk Till Dawn (1996,  R)
From Dusk Till Dawn
Tarantino and Rodriguez team up for the first time and it is magic. This partnership has led to greatness in cinema. This movie has essentially two parts. Tarantino's part and Rodriguez's part. Even though Rodriguez directed it, it still has Tarantino's stamp on it, seeing as he wrote it and starred in it. Not to mention they are like brothers so they work great together. I just want to address that Tarantino aint that bad in this. He isn't the greatest actor but he gets the job done. Clooney in this is the fucking man. He is a badass to the extreme. I really like how he just transitioned to "renegade" doctor on ER to badass in this. I love the 180 this movie takes which i wont spoil but I will say it is ridiculous but so enjoyable. Thank god these two met.

The Boondock Saints (1999,  R)
The Boondock Saints
I liked it. Maybe I was predisposed to like it due to my fondness for crime and revenge flicks. Sure it tries to be hip. It tries to be the next big crime film. But it still succeeds in being a good action comedy. I like how the two leads play very well off each other. They work very well as brothers. Willem Dafoe was entertaining. It was fun and fresh.

Darkman (1990,  R)
Darkman
Another solid Sam Raimi film. He really knows how to make fun movies. This is the wekaest I've seen from him but it is still freaking fun. Watching it, I didnt know what to expect. I thought it would be a very dark movie. But Raimi hasn't done that since the original Evil Dead. The best thing in this movie is it may have the single greatest cameo ever, with Bruce Campbell.

A Clockwork Orange (1971,  R)
A Clockwork Orange
This movie is criminally over rated. It shocks me how poeple just like a movie because some fucking film snobs say they should. I liked it, but it was no where near the masterpiece everyone makes it out to be. For one, everyone except for McDowell is just horrible. The acting is just atrocious. McDowell is the only bright spot and this is one of the things I agree with others with. McDowell is amazing in this movie. Another problem I have with this movie is a problem I have with the ohter Kubrick movies I see. It is too long. There is just filler that could be taken out. It's like Kubrick is just showing off. The final problem is that Alex is just too fucked up a person to care about. They give us no reason to like him. But we are supposed to care about him. Well if you do, your fucking nuts. It sounds like I hate the movie, but I dont. It is a good movie that I would watch again. It's just too damned over rated.

The Seven Samurai (Shichinin no Samurai)
The hype is true. After hearing how great this movie is, i decided to watch it and it was amazing. The most significant thing I saw was that at 3 1/2 hours long, it feels much shorter. It just moves. Everything in this movie just clicks, no filler. The acting is amazing as well. Toshiro Mifune is the best in this. I love his crazy character. All the characters are great. For a movie made in 1954, i didn't feel like it was watered down. The action was good for the time and still is pretty good. This movie has heart and soul and a great story. Absolutely phenominal.

Shaun of the Dead (2004,  R)
Shaun of the Dead
An absolutely hilarious zombie film. It was very well done. This is, in my opinion, better than Hot Fuzz. Not to slight Hot Fuzz but this is so much funnier. Nick Frost is great in this movie. In the first minute or so he delivers the best line. "Can i get any of you cunts a drink?" I also loved how gore-tastic it was. They realized zombie movies just naturally have insane gore and the included it. Simon Pegg is a comedic genius in here, hoping he does more good. Edgar Wright is also a bright talent after this, Hot Fuzz and his Grindhouse trailer. A classic film for all to enjoy.

Desperado (1995,  R)
Desperado
Rodriguez really knows how to make an action flick. It's simple enough, the man is a genius with action films. Antonio Banderas has never been as badass as he was in this film. El Mariachi is such a bad motherfucker. Than Salma Hayek looking good and killing some people which is a nice bonus. Than Joaquim De Almeida is very good as drug lord, Bucho. Check out for cameos by Quentin Tarantino, Cheech Marin, Steve Buscemi and the debut of Danny Trejo.

Citizen Kane (1941,  PG)
Citizen Kane
I have finally seen it. And it is a pretty good flick. A revolutionary movie. The techniques used in this film are seemingly commonplace now. The acting is great for the time and even now it's pretty good. The stroy is what I liked most. These people trying to figure out what Rosebud is and what it represented. I like how it wasn't obvious and the way it unfold at the end. But since I knew the twist I could see little hints throughout. It does get a little boring but all in all it's a good flick.

The Deer Hunter
This movie was gut wrenching. I'm really glad this movie wasn't ruined for me. Going in without any spoilers made it so much more enriching. The russian roullete sequences are intense. And the violence is very realistic. This movie is great in it's portrayal of the war and small town life. The end is very tragic. Walken is great in this movie an DeNiro throws down another classic performance. A very badass yet sad movie.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall
I love the Apatow brand of comedy. It seems like he can do no wrong, be it directing or producing comedies. He just knows what is what. This is yet another slice of fried gold out of the Apatow camp. Jason Segel is great as the heartbroken Peter. He even lets his piece hang out, which shows the dedication. Kristen Bell is good as Sarah. Mila Kunis is very sexy here, but I can't stop thinking "Hey it's Meg Griffin". Russell Brand is very funny as the sex laced superstar singer. Than you got some cameos from Apatow friends like Paul Rudd, Jonah Hill and Jack McBrayer. It really is a funny movie with a great cast.

Iron Man (2008,  PG-13)
Iron Man
The first summer blockbuster of 2008 has finally arrived and it is much better than the start last year. Iron Man is a truly great comic book movie. Downey Jr is perfect as Stark, it's as simple as that. He was made for this role. Paltrow was good as assistant Pepper Potts. Howard served his purpose in the film, even slyly hinting at War Machine in the sequel. Than we have Bridges as Obediah Stane, the hidden villain in the whole flick. Everyone does really well. The special effects are amazing, ILM just showing the world they are the best. This movie is pretty much Marvel's version of "Batman Begins", without the punch BB left. It is a fantastic origin story though, taking it's time to set up the characters. The action scenes were done very well for a director who hasn't worked on anything like this. But the best part of the movie is after the credits. Nick Fury, played by noneother than Samuel L motherfucking Jackson , wanting to talk about the Avenegers Initiative. Just too badass for words. A highly reccomended flick which will be overshadowed by a few other big blockbusters this summer (TDK, Indy IV). But it is worth a watch.

The Big Lebowski (1998,  R)
The Big Lebowski
Another great flick by the Coens. They have shown they can do anything they set their minds to. This is a pretty funny movie. Jeff Bridges is great as The Dude. He's so laid back you just wish you can be like him. Walter is also great, John Goodman on his game here. Some great lines from him being "You are entering a world of pain" and "You see what happens when you fuck another man in the ass?!". The Jesus is also another great character. John Turturro is so underrated. It really is just a solid film. This dude abides.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008,  PG-13)
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Yet another good sequel to a franchise long thought to be dead (Die Hard, Rocky, Rambo being others). Indy is back and kicks alot of ass. Harison Ford is back on form, he hasn't been this good since Last Crusade. We also get the return of Karen Allen, playing Marion Ravenwood again. She is just here to be here, but it's nice to see her again. We also get the intro to Shia LeBeoufs character, Mutt. He is a great addition to the Indy series, better than Short Round. Then we get Cate Blanchett as Irina Spalko, the pyschic Ruskie bad guy. She is better than the bad guys in Crusade and Doom. We also have Ray Winstone and John Hurt who is kinda wasted. There are a few gripes I have. The nuke scene is a throwaway scene that is very outlandish. I did like the shot of him siloutted against the mushroom cloud. Then there is the use of CGI when it wasn't necessary. Most blatant being the jungle chase. I still dug the scene but I would have liked less obvious CGI. Then there's the Tarzan scene. But overall, this is a great flick. We get some great action sequences, Indy brawling like it's no ones business and villains getting fucked up.

Hellboy
I liked it. Not the greatest comic book movie, but it was very entertaining. Looking foward to the sequel.

Hellboy II: The Golden Army (Hellboy 2) (2008,  PG-13)
Hellboy II: The Golden Army (Hellboy 2)
Much better than the original. Del Toro is having much more fun on this one. Everyone is better here. Perlman is even better this time as the manly demon, Hellboy. Blair is back and is actually hot in this one, where she looked like a psych patient in the first. Jones is given much more screen time in this one, and it is great. I love Abe Sapien. Then we get Luke Goss as Nuada, a very well done bad guy who we can actually feel for. We also have Nuala, Nuada's twin and love interest for Abe. It's a visually wonderful film with some excellent creatures. Kudos to Del Toro and the crew. Here's hoping for sequel after The Hobbit movies.

The Kingdom (2007,  R)
The Kingdom
This isn't what the promotional material would let you believe it is. It's actually more of a police procedural with some action in the beginning and the end. The beginning has a very brutaly terrorist attack. And it actually isnt anti Saudi. There are a decent amount of good Saudi guys, mainly the one helping them. The performances arent award winning but they arent bad either. The action is very well done. And the I'm not even sure they used shaky cam like some said. It is a really good movie.

8.5 out of 10.

Drunken Master (Jui kuen)
Amazing. Hilarious for good and bad reasons but it still kicks so much ass. Jackie Chan shows why he is such a great leading man. He is funny and its a sight to see him do some of the shit he does. Not to mention it could be a good drinking movie.
