Todo en esta película es sobresaliente. / A genuine masterpiece. Wajda's genius is amazing in alternating between realism, comedy, passion and moments of truly dreamlike horror. Everything in this movie is outstanding.

ASPECT RATIO?? Horrible, surreal y e hipnótico retrato de la miseria espiritual de un individuo. Todo fluye como un sueño pesadillezco, y es un logro excepcional conseguir tal atmósfera sin que haya traspiés alguno. / Horrible, surreal and hypnotic portrait of and individual's spiritual misery. Everything flows like a nightmarish dream, and it is quite an achivement to create such an atmosphere without a false note.

Un increíble trabajo de dirección eleva esta película a un altísimo nivel de calidad. Tan alegórica como verosímil al pintar panoramas urbanos sombríos, y con un impecable Clive Owen al mando. La cinematografía y camarografía de Emmanuel Lubezki son sencillamente increíbles. Su apuesta alegórica exige aceptarla o rechazarla, de lo que depende su credibilidad. / Incredible direction elevates this to an extremely high level of quality. As allegorical as true to life when depicting somber urban landscapes, and with an impeccable Clive Owen leading the proceedings. Emmanuel Lubezki's cinematography and camerawork are simply incredible. Its allegorical bet demands total acceptance or rejection, and its credibility rests on that.

I never get tired of seeing this movie. Perfect blend of comedy and action, with magnificent characterizations, pacing and music. Perhaps DeNiro's best performance; he just inhabits his character without any overkill.

It does so within a context of epic proportions, but without losing its intimate tone.

LETTERBOX. Una obra maestra. Excelente matrimonio entre cine narrativo e ideológico. / A masterpiece. Excellent marriage of narrative and ideological cinema.

WIDESCREEN. Es todo lo buena que dicen. / It is as good as they say it is.

BIG SCREEN. Será sentimental y todo, pero es una maravilla. Aparte de uno que otro diálogo, esta película es un modelo de comedia melodramática. / May be sentimental and all, but this a marvel. Aside from a few dialogue segments, this movie is a model for melodramatic comedies.

La Nueva Ola en su apogeo... y con Erik Satie de fondo.

Una de las grandes películas de todos los tiempos. / One of the great films of all time.

Una obra maestra. Elocuente tratado sobre temas tan Coen como la maldad, las decisiones y sus consecuencias, la ética, la incertidumbre y las idiosincracias. El final es lo que debe ser, digan lo que digan. / A masterpiece. Eloquent treatment on many regular Coen themes such as evil, decisions and their consequences, ethics, uncertainty and idiosincracies. The ending is what it has to be, no matter what they say.

WEB. Austero y melancólico, pero increíblemente poético y descarnado documental sobre la familia del poeta célebre Leopoldo Panero. Aún muerto, el peso de su mito y de su verdad perdura y ejerce sombra sobre todos quienes le sobreviven. Es impactante la forma como el documento va revelando poco a poco los elementos de esta "historia". El cierre es profundamente conmovedor. / Austere and melancholy, but incredibly poetic and raw, documentary about the family of a renowned poet Leopoldo Panero. Long after his death, the weight of his myth and his truth lingers and casts a shadow upon those who remain. It's striking the way this document reveals little by little the elements that make up this "story". The closing is profoundly moving.

If there is an example of a masterpiece film in which very little happens, this is it. Absurd, funny, moving... truly brilliant.

PAN AND SCAN. Una obra maestra. La evolución de la historia y de la psiquis del protagonista están trabajadas de forma acaso perfecta por el director Istvan Szabo y el actor Klaus Maria Brandauer, quien ofrece una actuación a la altura de las mejores. La mezcla de una atmósfera suntuosa con un montaje ágil y eficaz crean una combinación perfecta para ilustrar el cerco de corrupción y posturas que se cierne. / A masterpiece. The evolution of the story and the protagonist's psyche is worked perhaps perfectly by director Istvan Szabo and the actor Klaus Maria Brandauer, whose performance here ranks among the very best. The combination of a sumptuous atmosphere and an agile, effective editing mix perfectly to illustrate an operative encirclement of corruption and postures.

Poderosa exposición de la corrupción corporativa, tanto en la industria tabacalera como en el negocio de las noticias televisadas. Para mí, la mejor actuación de Al Pacino. Una gran y muy poco vista película. / Powerful exposé of corporate corruption, both in the tobacco industry and the televised news business. For me, Al Pacino's best performance. A great if little seen film.

WEB / LETTERBOX. En manos menos capaces, este tipo de minimalismo conduciría al tedio, pero la precisión de los encuadres, los movimientos de cámara, la iluminación y las actuaciones que logra Chantal Akerman es magia. / In less capable hands, this type of minimalism would only lead to tedium, but the precision of the compositions, camera movements, lighting and performances that Chantal Akerman accomplishes is magic.

WEB-LETTERBOX. Excelente y contundente tragedia, con toda la belleza propia del cine de Vlácil. Comunica a la perfección el mundo interior de sus personajes sin perder de vista su épico discurso. / Excellent and forceful tragedy, with all the beauty one can expect from Vlácil's cinema. Perfectly communicates the internal world of its characters without losing sight of its epic discourse.

Una segunda mirada revela la grandeza de esta película. Desde la atmósfera hasta las actuaciones y la fluidez de la cámara, todo ayuda a que esta historia vaya cayendo en su lugar pieza por pieza y mantenga el interés a pesar de su extensión. / A second look reveals the greatness of this film. From the atmosphere to the performances and the fluidity of the camera, everything helps this story fall into place piece by piece and maintain interest despite its length.

The best of the trilogy. A great mix of fantasy, legend, magic, drama and action, told with constant momentum and without the Hollywood excesses of the third part.

BIG SCREEN. Una de esas películas que exhibe grandes ambiciones y logra cumplirlas a cabalidad. / One of those films that show great ambitions and manage to live up to them.

LETTERBOX. Extraordinaria. Una puesta en escena tan apasionada como las actuaciones de Billy Crudup y Jennifer Connelly. Una de esas películas que, aunque abiertas, dicen exactamente todo lo que tienen que decir con precisión casi perfecta. Pocas veces se ha retratado tan bien en pantalla el amor entre dos personas. / Extraordinary. The mise en scene is as passionate as the performances of Billy Crudup and Jennifer Connelly. One of those movies that, although open-ended, say everything they need to say with almost perfect precision. Love between two people has seldom been so well presented on screen.

Más episódica y menos redonda que otros clásicos de Chaplin, pero igual de genial. / More episodic and less rounded than other Chaplin classics, but just as brilliant.

WEB: Hermoso, fluido, completamente natural estudio de personalidad que es también una sosegada contemplación sobre la transitoriedad y hasta una oda al espíritu bohemia. / Beautiful, fluid, completely natural character study that is also a serene contemplation of transiency and even an ode to bohemian spirits.

WEB. Una de las grandes películas (y de los trabajos de dirección) de todos los tiempos. Es una lección de narrativa cinematográfica en la que elementos de tragedia, realismo, romance y hasta minimalismo se mezclan bajo una orquestación inspirada y equilibrada. / One of the great movies (and directorial works) of all time. It is a lesson in cinematographic narrative in which elements of tragedy, realism, romance and even minimalism are combined in an inspired and balanced orchestration.

Una de las mejores películas de Fellini, esta magnífica oda a la nostalgia entreteje variados episodios, subtramas y matices que oscilan con magia entre lo surreal, cómico, político, dramático, simbólico y sexual, sin perder su atmósfera cuasi onírica ni el amor por sus personajes. / One of Fellini's best films, this magnificent ode to nostalgia interweaves various episodes, subplots and nuances that magically alternate between the surreal, comical, political, dramatic, symbolic and sexual, without losing its quasi-oniric atmosphere or its love for its characters.

Excelente en todos los apartados. Gran ejemplo de elocuencia cinematográfica. / Excellent in all respects. Great example of cinematic eloquence.

Excelente. Es simple en su presentación y sus recursos, pero eso es lo que la hace tan maravillosa. Transmite una pasión y un arte con impecable habilidad y en un crescendo sostenido, que desemboca en un clímax inolvidable. El único posible defecto es que podría haber dado más trasfondo, pero, mientras transcurre, esa ausencia no se siente. / Excellent. It is simple in its presentation and its resources, but that is what makes it so wonderful. Transmits passion and art with peerless skill and maintaining constant its crescendo, which leads to an unforgettable climax. The only possible defect is that it could have provided more background information, but that absence is hardly felt while it plays.

Perhaps the most engrossing movie I have ever seen. Storytelling at its most skilled.

Poblada de ilusiones, alusiones, augurios, desencanto, sabiduría y humanismo, y llevada de la mano por la presencia de Burt Lancaster. / Extraordinary in every way. Its opulence is what most calls our attention, but no amount of ostentation is wasted here, as everything is calculated to frame a deep understanding of the historical transformation of a country, a region and their protagonists. Populated with illusions, allusions, foreshadows, malcontent, wisdom and humanism, and carried by the hand by Burt Lancaster's presence.

Un final que se me antoja algo abrupto es la única manchita en lo que de otra forma sería una de las más perfectas obras maestras del cine. Aún así, su impacto es avasallador y memorable. / A finale that feels rather abrupt is the only little stain in what would otherwise be one of the most perfect masterpieces of cinema. Even so, its impact is ravishing and memorable.
