1
Memento (2000,  R)
Memento
Ridiculously innovative. Perfectly executed.

(Christopher Nolan!) A movie is perfect, at least for me,
when there is no possible way to make it any better. In
the case of Memento, there is no imaginable way to
improve it. The movie takes the concept of the fragility
of memory, then turns it on its head, giving you a main
character with short-term memory loss looking to take
revenge on his wife's killer. Then it turns itself on its
head again, by showing the clips in reverse order so that
the beginning of the film is actually its resolution. The
end result stands upright as one of the most innovative
and highly debatable films ever made, if not the most. If
you want to watch it, I'll lend it to you.
2
Requiem for a Dream (2000,  R)
Requiem for a Dream
Aronofsky manages to create the saddest, yet most hopeful, movie I have ever seen.

>>It should be shown in schools; no one could possibly use drugs after watching this movie.
3
Fight Club (1999,  R)
4
Cidade de Deus, (City of God) (2003,  R)
Cidade de Deus, (City of God)

It purified my precious bodily fluids.
6

There Will Be Blood
The more I think about it, the harder it is for me to find anything wrong with it. Excellent cinematography, excellent score, excellent acting. Excellent.
7

Children of Men

9
Raiders of the Lost Ark (Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark) (1981,  PG)
10
The Shawshank Redemption (1994,  R)
The Shawshank Redemption
While the overall message of this film is hope, the movie has a strong undercurrent of sadness throughout. The mixture of the two is a feeling rivaled only by Requiem for a Dream.
11
Brick (2006,  R)
Brick
This movie oozes style.

Most beautiful movie I have ever seen; truly a feast for the eyes and the ears (thank you Clint Mansell). Watch it twice.
15
Signs (2002,  PG-13)
Signs
So what if the aliens can't touch water? Get over it, and instead focus on how stunningly everything blends together in the third act.

30
Million Dollar Baby (2004,  PG-13)
31
Jurassic Park (1993,  PG-13)
Jurassic Park
In this case, the music makes the movie. John Williams' score is fantastic. Ian Malcolm is still one of my favorite characters ever to be put on film.
32
Hotel Rwanda (2004,  PG-13)
33
Crash (2004,  R)
Crash
Thought it was the best movie I'd ever seen the first time I watched it, but over time and with repeat viewings it becomes clear how scriptually (is that a word?) weak this movie actually is.
34
Collateral (2004,  R)
35
Casino Royale (2006,  PG-13)
36
Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (2006,  R)

38
Anchorman - The Legend Of Ron Burgundy (2004,  PG-13)
39
Babel (2006,  R)
Babel
Inarritu's trademark disrupted timeline stoytelling is getting old. Points go to Santoalla's ricidulously good soundtrack; it IS the movie.
40
Funny Games (2008,  R)
