Nine Queens (Nueve reinas) (2000, R)
Argentinian director Fabián Bielinsky made two movies so far which are both fantastic. This is his first movie which is about the world of con. This is so original and enjoyable piece of cinema that you won't understand how the two hours have passed. There is a remake of it called "Criminal" which is exactly the same movie but with different actors and in english. Avoid the remake see the original, you won't regret. |

The Blind Swordsman: Zatoichi (2003, R)
The man uses the screen as his canvas painting himself as the lead, The Blind Swordsman. The blood pours out from the bodies like flowers of spring. And don't forget the environmental-instrumental music that fits right in there. Kitano puts all his skills on the table; writing, directing and acting in this action-drama-comedy. A must see. |

Grindhouse (, Unrated)
They showed the two movies one by one in my country because it was too long to show the whole thing at once! Since I wanted to see the whole show together with the fake trailers and everything I decided to protest and wait for the DVD. Death Proof came first and I didn't see it. Today I went to see the Simpsons and saw that they showed it dubbed everwhere! How can I see the Simpsons fucking dubbed!! How can Homer say "Doh" in turkish! Anyway, I protested it too and we decided to go see the Planet Terror and I must tell you, it was fucking awesome! I really enjoyed this movie, exaggerated acting and gore scenes were perfect. So the rating is only for Planet Terror but I don't think it will scale down after seeing Death Proof. So I couldn't keep up with my protest, I'll probably go see The simpsons dubbed too. |

Smoke (1995, R)
Slow-paced but delicious! It's like reading a novel and a good one! The movie has no beginning or an end. It's like a chapter of life. We are witnessing a few characters' crossing paths but it doesn't try to say too much. Great script by Paul Auster, good direction by Wayne Wang, fantastic cast(each one of them) and a wonderful Tom Waits song at the end. Just rent it, sit back and enjoy... |

Cache (Hidden) (2005, R)
Haneke is disturbing, shocking and thought provoking as ever. His long takes are so powerful, they pull you in the movie. This movie has one of the most shocking scenes I've ever seen. It's scary because it's real, it's real because the director uses the camera and the actors very well. The suicide scene and the elevator scene are just flawless. |
