| Julie & Julia - PG-13 | Why should a man watch a 2 hour movie about cooking? Because one hour is filled with Merly Streep's talent and the other hour is filled with Amy Adams' beauty. Like them or not, Cameron has made some of the groundbreaking movies of the popular cinema and Avatar is one of them now. Seeing it in Imax-3D was one of the most amazing cinematic experiences I've ever had.
Story was better than I expected but was not as perfect as the visuals. The movie is openly anti-war and anti-imperialist but the cliche characters and some corny lines lower the impact of the message. Nevertheless you gotta admire the man to do such a big movie with that kind of message and don't bitch about the ending which was a bit over the top, I guess when you work with that kind of budget, you have to give the audience what they want. At the end, the movie works on every level, better on some than others, and worths every penny spent to make it and worths the 15 bucks I spent on it. |

A decent mystery/thriller that has good performances and a good plot, of course with a twist which thankfully makes sense this time. What makes this movie unique can also be considered as a problem: it's a slapstick comedy with some original and funny scenes and unlike other slapstick comedies, it has real characters and as the story goes, really bad things happen to these characters and you feel for them, you feel uncomfortable to laugh when a handicaped woman falls down or their house burn or they get beaten for bread.
Abel, Gordon and Romy, the writer-director-actor trio, did a very good job coming up with ideas and executing them, they are probably good friends, you can see the sincerity, the passion and the love in this little movie they made together. |
