Avatar - PG-13 Congratulations on James Cameron for creating a blockbuster that's actually a decent movie. For graphics and special effects, this movie gets 5 stars from me (and probably an Oscar from the Academy). But story-wise, it was really nothing special. It was a sappy love story concealed as an epic action movie made in 3D to blow you out of the water and convince you it's a good movie. The performances are weak, the storyline is familiar, at times poorly and carelessly structured, very holed, and without the 3D technology and the glasses, it's like everything else we've ever seen from Hollywood, although in a shinier wrapper and marketed better.

But, frankly, it can be enjoyable to no end. The 2 hours and 40 minutes fly by, and a whole new world is being created right in front of your eyes, and it makes you wanna be a part of it. So, for that, and for the environmental message, it has my 2.5 stars.

Pandorum - R It wasn't as freakishly awful as I expected it to be, and guilty to admit it, I actually kinda enjoyed it. I found myself screaming at the characters to run for dear life many times throughout it.

But let's face it: it's a pretty bad movie. The plot we've witness a gazillion times before, and the performances are pretty...lame. Except Ben Foster that is. Ben Foster can be cast as a chicken, and he'll still do a fine damn job at it. Dennis Quaid and Cam Gigandet were purely awful.

A fun movie to chew pop-corn watching, but no life alterations will occur if you see it!

Buffalo 66 - R I didn't know who directed this movie while I was watching it, and throughout it I couldn't help but notice how truly masterful the direction is. The multiple scenes in one screen, the different angles of the same object, the stationary camera, the slow zoom in/zoom out - it takes a director with a point of view in cinema to give you such a film - and I find out it's Vincent Gallo's first attempt in direction ever. His performance is of course stellar (if he didn't act excellently under his own direction, it would just be funny), and he even managed to get Christina Ricci to act well.

The characters are unreal, but you can fully believe in them by the end. Here's a pariah who is plotting his revenge against the man responsible for his imprisonment, and yet is still consciously aware of how deeply he needs his parents' approval, and so he kidnaps a simple-minded girl to pass her off as his wife to them. But he doesn't realize that even though he needs her help, she needs his even more.

A story of cathartic restitution - a movie made with nothing more than a few great performances, a diner, a house, a bowling alley, and a fistful of dollars.

Bandits - PG-13 Love this film -still hillarious after tens of times having watched it. Thornton steals the thunder in this black comedy. A masterpiece of directing skills. December 23, 2009
