Just watched this one again and it is not as good as I remember. It was filmed near my hometown in Western Massachusetts. Bill Pullman is pretty good in this and so is both Kidman and Baldwin. The twist in the movie is now just okay but may have been good the first time I saw this. Not a believable relationship between Pullman and Kidman though. Good cameo from George C Scott but the best one is the late Anne Bancroft who plays the bitter mother and is only in the movie a few minutes but it is great acting. In all an okay suspense storyline but not the best movie. Hated Bebe Neuwirth in this one.

They could of cut this movie down to about just under 2 hours. The premise was good and the storyline started out like your typical Hollywood disaster movie, but then it spun into all these loose end side stories and got off on millions of tangents and some very unrealistic parts. Then it spun into this moral values story where who should we save and who should die etc. Now on the other hand, they destroyed the hell out of the world with some awesome special effects. Cusack is always good in any role and he did well with this one. Also another one who shined was Chiwetel Ejiofor who I just saw in "Talk to me". Surprisingly my least favorite actress Amanda Peet was not annoying. The worse ones in this were Oliver Platt and a wasted Danny Glover as a sympathetic President. In all a so-so movie with some great special effects but could of done without the stupid looking submarine floating ships at the end.

This is my all time favorite movie. The power of this masterpiece is overwhelming. It shows the heart and soul of true competition and athletes and there are not many movies like this. It is classic and the acting is superb. The cinematography is even great.
