The night He came home! John Carpenter established the formula for all the slasher films that followed with this brilliant horror masterpiece. Nothing's ever as good as the original...
I originally saw this in the '80s under the title "Innocents From Hell". Much disturbing imagery and satanic rituals. A must for the obscure horror fan!
A favorite of Clint's "Man With No Name" movies. Returning from the dead to exact revenge on both the men who killed him, and those that let him die. An American "Spaghetti" Western.
Awesome. Spectacular! Divinely evil. Robert De Niro embodies the Devil and Mickey Rourke does a wonderful job. Watch all the way to the end to see the journey to Hell.
Brilliant retelling of the making of Nosferatu. Willem Dafoe is unrecognizeable as Mas Schreck, a real vampire hired to play an actor playing a vampire.
Very cool alien movie. An alien cop is chasing an alien criminal that has a taste for metal music, fast cars & jumps from body to body as he exhausts the life from the human forms he steals. Great!
Great kills in this one. I personally think Jason is scarier in this one with the sack on his head with only one eye hole cut in it. The legend continues to grow...
Very cool that a writer gets to bring his own vision to the screen. David Cronenberg's performance adds a very creepy element to this tale of outsiders trying to stay away from the real monsters...humans.
Christopher Walken as God's avenging angel. Despite the write-up below, I think it's a great tale that raises some very valid questions about religion and blind faith. Viggo Mortensen embodies a very charming, seductive Devil. I like it.
Stanley Kubrick takes on horror master Stephen King's tale of madness & murder in the isolated Overlook hotel. Jack Nicholson is incredible. Perfection achieved.
Totally underated horror flick. Simon is a serial killer afflicted with bizarre visions that compell him to kill and kill again. I highly recommend for any fan of horror.
Like 2 movies in one. The first part is as about a realistic depiction of Marine Corps bootcamp as I've ever seen. The second part is pure Kubrick & his view on Vietnam. A winner.
Maybe Kevin Costner's best baseball movie. Proof that a great director does not need to confine himself to one genre. Sam Raimi takes a story of the end of a relationship & turns it into an aging athlete's shining moment.
I first saw this film in my Directing class in film school. I know why my instructor chose it, there is not much wrong that the director did here. Billy Bob got out of the way of the story and let the characters & the story shine through. I recently rewatched this movie with a friend that had never seen it and it made me have an all-new appreciation for this movie brilliance.
The only "vampire" movie I've ever seen where the vampires were scary and I felt sorry for the humans. This movie is incredibly well done and completely captures the feeling of isolation & utter terror the survivors of the first wave of attacks experience over the course of 30 days. Excellent movie. I highly recommend it to anyone that would like to see a good, bloody, scary horror movie!
George Romero's most personal independent movie since 1968's 'Night of the Living Dead'. He brings the 'Dead' films into the current time while still telling an apocalyptic vision of humanity and still finding new and visually interesting ways of dispatching the walking dead. I loved it.
Great for anyone that likes Romero's 'Dead' movies. Set on a non specific island it shows a possible origin for the epidemic of 'living dead'. Some truly awesome visually disturbing scenes throughout this movie. Slow and plodding, just like zombies should be.
Mesmerizing. This short movie was able to create the same creepy feeling that reading Lovecraft's writings could. Quite possibly the first honest interpretation of Lovecraft's work on film to date.
