The Lovely Bones
PG-13
I feel so ambiguous about this movie. I might change my rating several times.
My personal drama is having read the novel. The best things of the novel are not in the film. Some of the great moments in the film are not in the novel either, which I'd normally find great. I'm no purist, after all...
But I could only call this film fabulous if it weren't for the whole "family-values-reinforcement-good-beats-all-let-me-explain-it-to-you-now" sort of shit. Am I just sick of American cinema? Or do I suspect American cinema could be fabulous if it really wanted to?
(I call the film "American" because the script tells me where the financing si coming from. Billy Wilder was German, and Jackson actually is from New Zealand. History proves it doesn't change much... or does it?)
PS: What a role for Stanley Tucci! Impecable!
Phoebe in Wonderland
PG-13
Elle Fanning, in spite of her lovely looks, does a great job in portraying a girl whose intelligence shines through her eyes. If you don't get caught by your neighbors while clapping, I'll just assume you're lucky that they have no access to your windows.
Besides, who doesn't want to see a boy being called a homo at a school play then quickly replying: "Homo got the part. Off with your head!!!"
