Before adding me as a friend, please read the following text and check my profile thoroughly. Also I'd like to ask you to make sure that we have stuff in common (as a high MCT score, favorite movies, actors, directors, etc.) or at least similar hobbies and other kind of interests. I'm mainly here for the movies, people, but I'm willing to discuss other matters, as long as they're reasonable. I NEVER THOUGHT I'D HAVE TO WRITE THIS BUT HERE GOES: THIS IS NOT A ROMANTIC SITE!!!! GET A GRIP, PEOPLE! Now that we got that out of the way a bit of info: Once I start to see a movie, I can't stop... No matter how bad it is... And I'm a popcorn'er. Can't say no to a movie session. I've got a twisted sense of humor too. A bit too dark to most people's taste :) Other hobbies: reading, photography -->Link to my gallery on MyFourThirds<--- and sports All movie-buddies are most welcome. But I expect to find AT LEAST a MCT score or a Favorite Movie List on someone's profile... You know what I mean! P.S.1: Please, no chain-letter conversations! I've already pilled up too many bad luck years of love, money and health, for not re-posting those, so please don't add up to my misery! P.S.2: And don't flood me with quizzies too, please. Some are interesting and I enjoy them, but not really much time/will to do all of them, especially those about chick flicks, romcom and not movie related. Remember, folks, it's all about the movies! Thanks! ![]() Check it out! |

Lost In Translation
R
Absolutely stunning. A subtle punch in the stomach, with a sensibility out of this world. A must see...
2.
Blade Runner
R
Again R. Scott pulls it off (I'm talking of the Director's Cut, obviously, LOL), in one of the most amazing sci-fi detective's stories (if there ever are any others) and one that set the deffinitive look to all cyber-punk flicks/series/etc.
3.
The Usual Suspects
R
A good movie, that, all of a sudden slaps you in the face and turns in to an amazin flick!!! One of my all time favorites!!!!!
4.
Oldboy
R
This is a must, Tarantino loved it, and I can see why. The oriental awkward sensibility is quite strong on this one and it works like a charm. A tale of meaning and purpose... And bitterness!

Wanted
by JThe only reason I stayed to watch this film was the fact I acctually paid to see it. JMcAvoy and amazing MF performance was only thing justifing why I sat in theatre for 2 hours. Oh yes and AJolies really is the most beautiful woman on planet. So, all in all, cast was ok, and story of movie caught my interest - mr 'nobody' and 'nothing works in my life' who becomes trained assassin of the Fraternity. The whole idea of the story was appealing to me since I love thrillers...But then, it seemed to me like the director didnt know what to put more there to 'fly', jump over...as if the law of gravity doesn't exist....(Brus Willis flying on the stelt in Die hard 4 seems like work of art to me now) ...those sceenes were like a refreshment to me since they allured sincere laughter from me...maybe good for someone...but def not my 'coup of tea'
No chemistry between me and this film:) Anyway u should see if it 'fits' u...

Segundo Rubens Ewald Filho
Hey, you should really see this!

by JNow...this was something I never excepcted from this film...Great costumes, great performance - hell...everything is perfect in this film - as if it took me back in time centuries ago...right there - on spot...the story itslef is nothing too complicated (a lot of running trought the woods and how to outsmart ur enemies:),) but that is definitly pushed aside with great photography, appearance of actors, the environement where the story took place...as if we were taken with time machine to the world that disappeared...amazing:)

by JC.Affleck was great here...I loved his performance in almost every film I watched where his name appeared, but everytime he pushes my impressions higher... elaborating real 'down to earth' theme that gives u chills, this film also leaves u speachless of how human nature can be surprising in both, good and bad way...leaves your thoughts piled up with moral issues...challenges you if you can tell the boundary between good and bad...def got me thinking what would I do in such situation...u have short sinopsis in flixter, so I think it would be excessive to tell u what is about...but if you still haven't seen it, better put it on your 'will see it' list......I have one word for this film - amazing...

Rory O'Shea Was Here (Inside I'm Dancing)
by BrianThia is somewhat of a different kind of film because you think it's going to be somewhat of a kighthearted comedy in the beginning, but it really surprises you in a good way.
Great performances by James McAvoy and Steven Robertson. Totally worth watching on several levels and I'm glad we finally got around to it.
Why do people talk trash on McAvoy? See this and maybe you won't.

by BrianThis movir pissed me off a little biy. I can deal with dated movies, after all this came out in 1997, fine, but where my issue is is with the dated characters. All the gay men in the movie are such stereotypes. YAWN!

A Man for All Seasons
by Lucy"William Roper: So, now you give the Devil the benefit of law!
Sir Thomas More: Yes! What would you do? Cut a great road through the law to get after the Devil?
William Roper: Yes, I'd cut down every law in England to do that!
Sir Thomas More: Oh? And when the last law was down, and the Devil turned 'round on you, where would you hide, Roper, the laws all being flat? This country is planted thick with laws, from coast to coast, Man's laws, not God's! And if you cut them down, and you're just the man to do it, do you really think you could stand upright in the winds that would blow then? Yes, I'd give the Devil benefit of law, for my own safety's sake! "

In Bruges
by DanielleRay: "What are they doing over there? They're filming something. They're filming midgets!
Ken: Ray...
[Ray runs off and watches Jimmy being instructed by the director, who Jimmy flicks off as soon as he leaves]
Ken: Ray, come on. Let's go.
Ray: Fuck off, Ken. They're filming midgets."
Bruges, the most well-preserved medieval city in the whole of Belgium, is a welcoming destination for travellers from all over the world. But for hit men Ray and Ken, it could be their final destination; a difficult job has resulted in the pair being ordered right before Christmas by their London boss Harry to go and cool their heels in the storybook Flemish city for a couple of weeks. Very much out of place amidst the gothic architecture, canals, and cobbled streets, the two hit men fill their days living the lives of tourists. Ray, still haunted by the bloodshed in London, hates the place, while Ken, even as he keeps a fatherly eye on Ray's often profanely funny exploits, finds his mind and soul being expanded by the beauty and serenity of the city. But the longer they stay waiting for Harry's call, the more surreal their experience becomes, as they find themselves in weird encounters with locals, tourists, violent medieval art, a dwarf American actor shooting a European art film, Dutch prostitutes, and a potential romance for Ray in the form of Chloë, who may have some dark secrets of her own. And when the call from Harry does finally come, Ken and Ray's vacation becomes a life-and-death struggle of darkly comic proportions and surprisingly emotional consequences.
Ken: "We shall strike a balance between culture and fun.
Ray: Somehow I believe, Ken, that the balance shall tip in the favor of culture, like a big fat fucking retarded fucking black girl on a see-saw opposite...a dwarf."
Helping to maintain that balance are the strong central performances from Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson. Taken separately, their work here is highly impressive is Farrell nails the quicksilver mood changes of his character and turns in one of the strongest turns of his career and Gleeson, while having the less overtly flashy role, anchors the entire story with the kind of grave and quiet demeanor that says more than mere words ever could. However, as good as they are on their own, they are even better when they are playing off of each other the two are perfectly in sync with each other right from the start and their double act is alternately hilarious and strangely touching to behold.
Policeman: [to Ray, who is trying to escape from Bruges on the train] "Are you Irish?
Ray: Yea.
Policeman: What is your name?
Ray: Er-Derek Fer... ler.
Policeman: You eet the Canadian.
Ray: What?
Policeman: You eet the Canadian.
Ray: I eat the Canadian? I don't know what you're talking about.
[the policeman motions down the compartment toward more policemen and the two Canadian tourists whom Ray beat up earlier]
Canadian Guy: That's the motherfucker!
Policeman: Come along. We are taking you back to Bruges.
Ray: Brilliant."
Instead of sticking with this basic plot and trying to stretch it out into an entire film, he deploys that particular twist from earlier in the proceedings and thereby frees his story to go off in any number of unexpected directions. Other advantage is that it frees the film to go off on any number of amusingly oddball tangents, there is an especially funny sequence in which the aforementioned dwarf turns up in a drug haze to clumsily advocate a race war that he hasn't quite thought all the way through and while it doesn't really push the story forward in any significant way. There is quite a bit more to In Bruges than these hitmen nattering on about the town and their comic interactions with locals, ranging from charming drug dealers to a dwarf American actor, and it's in Ray's occasional bursts of frightful sadness that it starts to come out. McDonagh starts teasing away the layers to the characters' pasts, the real reasons why they've come to Bruges, and the judgment that awaits once they get that call from Harry.
Ken: [Ray walks into the bar high on cocaine] "How was your date?
Ray: Well, it started off with me bein' thrown out of a restaurant for pickin' a fight, then leading up to the young miss's hand on me cock, but then gettin' interrupted by her skinhead boyfriend, so on average I'd say it went fine."Hey, you should really see this!

Cube
by TaniaThis is movie art at its finest and in the simplest form.
It's amazing how much this movie has accomplished with such a low budget.
Eat your heart out, all you mega-movie productions out there, and feast your eyes on this quasi-masterpiece put together almost from scratch.
It has almost everything you could ask for in a movie. A great concept (one of the best, in my opinion), a terrific mind-blowing plot (with such a great concept there was almost zero chance of screwing the plot up), and also some very good performances (not top-notch ones, but quite good all the same).
The only reason why the above rating isn't a full 5 star one is merely because of the poor special fx in some of the scenes. I know they couldn't have possibly made it any better since I'm sure they lacked the means to do so. But still, it is enough to make it lose half a star.
And, trust me, half a star doesn't mean jack shit in this case, as this movie's already great as it is.
Art from (almost) scratch...
You gotta respect that. One of my favs. Surprisingly great!

Baby Blues
by DanielleThe film tells the story of a mother (Colleen Porch) who is suffering from a severe case of post-partum depression and soon starts believing it is her duty to kill her four children while her husband is away for work. It's up to her eldest son (Ridge Canipe) to stop her. Baby Blues also accomplishes the feat of making a psychological thriller that melds the best the genre has to offer with that of a straight-ahead horror film, as it becomes a chase film once Mom has made her diabolical intentions clear and her son must do anything he can to survive. The film is relentless in its attempts to thrill the viewer, each portion of the chase intelligently orchestrated for maximum tension. Colleen Porch gives a simply superb performance as Mom. She ably portrays one person gradually losing her grip on reality and descending into madness. Ridge Canipe is almost as impressive, especially since he is 13-years of age and will only get better as an actor. This isn't about some cool serial killer in a hockey mask slaughtering a bunch of vapid teenagers in delightfully gory ways, and the fact that the setting is so normal and the events so plausible makes it all the more horrifying. Each death is tragic and hurtful to watch, and the suspense leading up to them is dreadful. Impeccably made and intensely effective, Baby Blues more than succeeds in what it sets out to do, but is it ever hard to watch.

The Secret
by DanielleA loving couple (David Duchovny and Lili Taylor) love their daughter Samantha (Olivia Thirlby) even though she definitely gets on their nerves quite often. While driving, mother and daughter get into an argument that leads to a brutal car crash, leaving both on the brink of death. As Samantha is about to die, her mother reaches out and somehow "transfers" her life into her daughter, killing her in the process. Or so they think. When Samantha wakes up though, she is actually the mother trapped in her daughter's body. This odd predicament obviously has Dad confused and otherwise befuddled, but he thinks it best for her to continue living their daughter's life as if everything is normal. It will be their little secret. Their hope is that the real Samantha will escape from whatever limbo she is in and return to her body. The Secret really had its back against the wall with such an odd premise. The marketing materials compare it to "Ghost" and there are some similarities, what with the mother helping her daughter remain "alive" because of her own love and sacrifice. That said, The Secret is a lot creepier (in a weird, not good way). The source of much of its creepiness is Duchovny's characters complaints. He realizes that even though his wife is technically with him, because she is in the form of his daughter, he is unable to make love to her. That doesn't prevent his wife from coming onto him, even while in her daughter's body. The performances are a mixed bag. Lili Taylor really doesn't have much to do as she is barely in the film. This is one of Duchovny's best works as he demonstrates the depth to his abilities. Thirlby is a relative newcomer but certainly has a long and illustrious career ahead. She plays this dual role with an expertise that few older actors could muster. Cherkis shows this tragedy with great humanity and sensitivity. She balances the required elements of a thriller with this emotional drama. She does have a perchance to stride over the line to the melodramatic limits at times. Occasionally the script feels more like something that Lifetime would show during a paranormal themed Sunday afternoon. This tendency is most likely due to lack of experience.

The X-Files: I Want to Believe (The X Files 2)
by TaniaFirst of all, I've got a confession to make... I can't not like it.
And I gotta say I even felt a slight temptation to stretch the rating a little further. Not much further than the one you see above, but nonetheless further.
Fortunately, I ended up coming to my senses and decided I should stick to my impartiality as far as movie ratings are concerned.
(Trying hard not to let my addictions undermine my judgement. At least around here, I am.)
So... I guess you may already suspect that I'm probably not the best person to recommend an X-Files movie.
Yeah, sure, I liked it. But as it turns out most people have found it to be terrible.
Why?... Beats me... Maybe it's because they've never seen Decoys. Or even Slip.
Lucky fellows!
Oh, and by the way...
I've been reading some reviews around here and a lot of die-hard fans say this film didn't feel like the series at all. Well, I gotta say I do not agree with 'em. To me it felt like a huge (in a good way) episode. And I don't know if people remember or not, but the series wasn't exclusively about aliens. It was about all things paranormal. Which is why I think the subject dealt with in this new instalment fits perfectly in the series' general theme.
It did feel like an episode. Only not one of my favorites. And to be fair, the same thing happened with the series. Even though some episodes were better than others, they always felt like The X-Files.
At least to me they did.
But the thing here is... It just wasn't one of my favorite subjects. Not spooky enough and too down to earth for its own sake. And that's exactly why I can understand the fact that so many die-hard fans didn't like this movie (although I still fail to understand the 'terrible' part). They were probably expecting a goosebumps inducing film and all they got instead was a not so spooky one.
Well, that's what you get with a theme as broad as the paranormal.
And ok, maybe they could had made it a little eerier. But then again if they had done so, the above rating would had also been higher.
Wrong subject (even though adequate) and a too-soft approach. Two things I would change in this movie if I could.
(Man... That 3 stars rating... It would have really broken my heart if only I had one.)What to say?...
Some fans liked it; a lot of fans didn't like it (or so it seems). Some non-fans liked it; a lot of non-fans didn't like it (or so it seems).
Well...
It seems to me this one has "'watch it at your own risk' material" written all over it.posted 7 days ago -

Must Love Dogs
by DanielleCarol: [Jake and Sarah enter Sarah's house] "Hello! I filled your freezer again. There's now enough meat in there to feed every guy who answered your ad and still... whoa.
[enters room, sees Jake for first time]
Sarah: Jake did, in fact, answer the ad...
Jake: Do I get my meat?"
Eight months after her bitter divorce, Sarah (Lane) sifts through her large Irish family's misguided matchmaking attempts and wonders aloud if she'll ever find love again. With unsolicited assistance from her older sister, Carol (Elizabeth Perkins), Sarah posts a profile to an Internet dating website and enters a steady stream of social disasters. Two suitors gradually rise to the surface: outwardly nice Bob (Dermot Mulroney), and intense but ultimately decent Jake (John Cusack). by looking at the poster we can tel that Lane and Cusack are meant to mate, though the two share a minimal chemistry that's slow to form. We almost have more fun when the main couple is apart and interacting with their supporting players. Cusack's on cruise control, not sinking to sleepwalking level but hitting his marks with the casual stride of someone who's explored this territory before. His shuffle stands out in contrast to the nimble juggling act managed by Lane. Must Love Dogs is dependable filmmaking in an uneven genre, and it's a treat to see it sail evenly.
[Jake and Sarah are trying to buy some condoms because neither of them had any; Jake returns from a store to the car]
Jake: "They're out!
Sarah: How can they be out?
Jake: I have a theory about this. Everyone in the city is having sex at the exact same time... except for us. But we will press on."Hey, you should really see this! Must Love John Cusack is more like it.

Legally Blonde
by TaniaI would really had loved to trash this movie as if there were no tomorrow. And, quite frankly, it does have 'trashy material' written all over it.
Well, at least as a first impression it does.
But the truth is, it's really not all that bad.
Surprisingly bearable and even funny at times, this film provides a few entertaining moments and flows without getting too much on the boring side. And actually, it seldomly gets boring. Which is already a plus, considering the kind of plot we're dealing with here.
Basically, a soft comedy movie to be watched without great expectations. Not too bright, but not all that dumb either.
Even though it looks that way. I know.Funny in an acceptable way.
Not a waste of time in my opinion, but not a must see either.posted 10 days ago -

I wonder how "scandalous"/shocking it must have been for the time...
James Dean is brilliant, at most times it's as if he's not evem acting, but living his part. And the chemistry between him and Natalie Wood is good.
