Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977,  PG)
Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope
A long time ago, I saw this in the theater. I was the tender age of 10 years old. The movie opened up feelings of excitement and adventure that carries me to this day. I knew then that it would be an epic. This is a monumental movie. See it if you haven't.

Hard Eight (Sydney) (1996,  R)
Hard Eight (Sydney)
Paul Thomas Anderson's movie showcases the quiet Philip Baker Hall. It's a "father and son" picture, with a hard edge to it. OK, a very hard edge. Splendid!
3
Inside Man (2006,  R)
Inside Man
One of Spike's best movies. Superbly done. See Jodie Foster in an edgy though glamorous role.
4
The Insider (1999,  R)
The Insider
This is my favorite Michael Mann film. The movie features Al Pacino and Russell Crowe, going head to head against big tobacco, and their own demons. Great atmosphere.
5
Metallica - Some Kind of Monster (2004,  R)
Metallica - Some Kind of Monster
Thank god for this documentary, or I would never have discovered Metallica. This is long and unflinching look at the results of living a hard rockin lfe. Awesome.
6
The Big Lebowski (1998,  R)
The Big Lebowski
"So that's what you call me. The Dude." Yes, one of the best movies ever.
7
Man on Fire (2004,  R)
Man on Fire
Man on Fire is a "revenge" movie, and it's electric! Denzel plays a weary man down on his luck. He gets a job as a body guard to a delightful little girl (played by Dakota Fanning). Unfortunately, Fanning's character gets kidnapped. He vows that he's going to kill anyone who profited from this, and boy does he ever. Despite the action, there is high emotion, and this is easily one of my favorite films from 2007.
