| Eagle vs. Shark - R |
I really wanted to like this for a large number of reasons, and I think I partially do. However, I am still perplexed - either the characters were MEANT to be 14 years old, or the writer decided to make every Kiwi appear to be mentally retarded. There's a few funny moments, but most of the time you're just wondering which mould the characters are supposed to fit in and why the lovely and attractive Lily (the Shark of the title) would fall for Jemaine's assinine Eagle. |

| Transformers - PG-13 |
Michael Bay's never met a plothole he couldn't blow up has never been more true. Looks wonderful in HD as well! A good bit of fun and Megan Fox is whoa-yeah!! |

| Lilies of the Field - Unrated |
Quite the feel good film from the 60s. There are the odd throwbacks to the time (mainly the subtle racist reference) but overall the film's a winner. Poitier definitely deserved his Oscar, if only for the way he delivered his breakfast order to Juan. |

| Juno - PG-13 | delightful little romp well played by everyone. Excellent performance by Ellen Page and wonderful understatedness from Jason Bateman. Nice to see the father/son team from Arrested Development working together again, albeit never sharing a scene. | February 2, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Evan Almighty - PG | Average comedy where the neglecting father learns to be close to the family again. However kudos to the fact that they actually built the ark, gave the wood to habitat for humanity and basically tried to be a carbon neutral film set. That goes a long way these days. | January 29, 2008 | N/A | |||
| From Hell - R | decent enough rendition of the graphic novel, made all the better by the Hughes Brothers attention to detail. While the set was completely built in Prague, it remains as true to historic data as possible. Excellent. | January 26, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Gettin' Square - Unrated | a decent enough caper flick, with the usual twist and such, made better with Tim Spall. The court scene with David Wenham was also quite priceless. | January 26, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Moving McAllister - PG-13 |
buttoned down dork moves boss' bohemian hotty to California. Boss is Roy Batty, hottie is Mila Kunis who is seriously coming into her hotness. This is a paint by numbers flick and the addition of Napoleon Dynamite doesn't really add anything to the character chemistry or the narrative. Saving grace is Button Downed Dork's fat friend who does ANYTHING but study for the bar exam. |

| Balls of Fury - PG-13 |
dreadful film saved by the protagonist's unwavering love of the Lep and their concert shirts and WALKEN. It's evident that he's phoning in his performance, but he's always incredibly watchable, especially as a goofy villain. |

| Bobby - R |
interesting Altman-esque take on the lives and loves of people in and around the Ambassador Hotel on the day Bobby Kennedy was shot. Some of the storylines were confusing (as to why they were there) and I still don't know who Martin Sheen's character was or why he was there. Sharon Stone is also unrecognisable. |

| Beowulf - PG-13 |
from now on EVERY movie I see must be 3D and in Imax! This was an incredible immersive experience.
Love Neil Gaiman and the script did justice to the oldest story in the English language. Also nice to see more of Angelina than we did of Ray Winstone (although it was touch and go for a minute). |

| El Laberinto del Fauno (Pan's Labyrinth) - R |
excellent film with a hinted discussion of the afterlife, which isn't all that strange as it's a Spanish film and they are fiercely religious.
The backdrop of Franco's Spain made it even more interesting as the main character was not only looking to discover the secrets of the labyrinth, but also escape the ravages of war. The innocence she represented was ably counter-represented by "The Captain" who found no punishment too brutal in trying to counter a resurgence by the local militia. A wonderful film, worthy of all the awards and accolades it received. |

| Ultraviolet - PG-13 | This is just a bad film. The dialogue is worse than something a 5 year old would come up with and the whole indestructible nature of Milla's character got boring. The whole film as just fight set piece after set piece was a drain on my consciousness. | December 23, 2007 | N/A | |||
| Jindabyne - R | A Michael Eavis lookalike kills a girl on the way to a music festival and he fishermen that find her get blamed (not for the death, but for waiting to report their finding). The premise is rather flimsy, the acting is decent and the scenery is quite nice (although rather brown). | December 1, 2007 | N/A | |||
| The Ex - PG-13 |
Testament to this film that Jason Bateman could really play a prick well, having done a great job in an opposite role on Arrested Development. Of course, the addition of Amanda Peet is always welcome! Decent film, but not a keeper. Ok for a rental. |

| Catch and Release - PG-13 | This was actually quite a touching love story, with the odd twist and Kevin Smith doing his Kevin Smith thing (ie being really funny and wearing shirts with 37 on them). | November 19, 2007 | N/A | |||
| Caffeine - R |
Holy crap this film is bad. And the trailer was even worse. There's no story, the Brit accents on the Yanks are HORRENDOUS and story-wise, it's just 90 minutes of not very entertaining nothingness. The fact that TWO cast members of Lost are in this didn't even make up for the fact that this is a terrible film. |
