Simply stunning. I've already written a book on this, so please, don't ask me to write a 50-word review.
Casino Royale Casino Royale PG-13
This is not only my favorite Bond film, but one of the best productions I've seen yet. With three writers, Purvis, Wade, and Haggis, this is possibly the best adapted screenplay in the 007 series. Bond travels from the Bahamas to Montenegro to Venice (a few things have been changed from the book to suit our modern-day lifestyle), pops into M's London apartment for a brief glimpse, runs into an Embassy in Uganda and blows up a few things here and there, and, in a Miami airport, casually stops a terrorist from driving a petrol truck into newly-released airplane prototype. Setting is one of the many strengths in this film - the perfect mixture of the exotic, and of the familiar. Daniel Craig is absolutely outstanding in the role, bringing old, recognisable traits to the character, and yet also piling up his own refreshing ideas. Dame Judi Dench, as usual, is undeniably fantastic... Although, this time, her character of M is more complex than ever. Mads Mikkelsen is sensational as the criminal banker, Le Chiffre, whose various faces add up to a simply superb act. Eva Green, as usual, is slightly disappointing. Imagine you're a casting manager: Eva Green without the sexy looks would be nothing watsoever. No charisma, no charm, and an annoyingly over-confident look, she hasn't done any better in this film - all she's done is add a title to her filmography list. Cinematography is enthralling, captivating; Martin Campbell's direction obviously had its effects; music is invigourating, and spurs the reader's interest and concentration; cars are, as usual, up to the level expected from a 007 film; other characters not mentioned above are all original, developed, and intricately treated, with attention to adapting-accuracy (ie. getting the book's original ideas about the roles across). An absolute must-see, whether you don't like James Bond or Daniel Craig, you will definately remember this as an absolutely breath-taking film.
