Le Ángel Exterminador (The Exterminating Angel)
Unrated
It reminds me of The Lord of the Flies, and it seems as if Saramago based on this movie for some moments in his novel Blindness. I say that because they all explore the loss of "Humanity" under certain conditions, when there's no authority, no rules, and no food. Though this is a very bizarre and confusing movie, its brilliance hsa no comparisson.
With a witty dialogue, and so many interesting characters is a movie you would watch from beginning to the end without getting bored, it doesn't matter that nothing REALLY important happens. Another Buñuel masterpiece.
The Alphabet

Oh my God!!! Very freaky and weird, I can't believe this was made in 1968, David Lynch really has a twisted mind...
Autumn Sonata
R
Though it seems as a little movie with little amount of characters and settings, it is so powerful and intense that surprised me, really. The characters are so deeply developed that seem as real people with real emotions and memories. Acting is first class, one of Ingrid Bergman's greatest performances. Liv Ullmann is great as always. The script is perfect also. Another Bergman masterpiece.
The Dark Knight
PG-13
I was on my trip through Europe, but still had to find time to go and see this! And it was worth it. The best cast of the year, Bale made it once again, Ledger stole the whole show. What I really loved was the sound effects, mindblowing. This is the way an action film has to be made, great job Nolan!
----
It required a second viewing for me to realize what a masterpiece this is. You take a super-hero movie and mix it with great direction, great script, and Heath Ledger and you get a -Silence of the Lambs- thriller, in which the Joker steals the whole show and launches Ledger to immortality. From 4*1/2 straight to 5*!!
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
PG
I'm predicting: best special effects oscar 2009! Though it hasn't the "magic" that the first movie brought, and kinda transformed it into a "war movie", but the book is more like it... The creatures seem very real, specially Aslan. The close-up shots of the lion are majestic.

Casablanca

Greatest Hollywood production EVER. Timeless, more than 60 years later and it's still freash to watch. Ahead of its time. Every genre posible addressed perfectly by the cast and director. The movie with most memorable quotes ever, transformed a whole culture! Humphrey Bogart practically made smoking and boozing in films to be "cool". A classic, most important movie ever, there's not enough space to finish talking about Casablanca. A must have in every film collection. Directing: 5 Acting: 5 Story: 5 Originality: 5 Visual elements: 5 Impact: 6! Enjoyment: 5 Music: 5

Citizen Kane
PG
There's not so many people who could produce, direct, act and write their own film... and be GREAT. Practically reinvented film-making in every sense. Complex story-telling, visual improvements, techniques evolved and the whole cinema could not be the same after Citizen Kane. Orson Welles is inspiration for every film-maker. Directing: 6! Acting: 5 Story: 5 Originality: 5 Visual elements: 5 Impact: 6! Enjoyment: 4

It's just fascinating. The whole story is great. Directing ai its best, the melding between surrealistic and realistic cinema is wonderful. There are many scenes to love, you could even chose your favorite ones. (Mines are the Harem scene, the illutionist at the party, and the first dream scene), brilliant! Fellini practically invented his whole new aesthetic rules and fights against film conventional views. Marcello Mastroianni is great as Guido, he delievers some "real" emotions in every scene he makes appearance, so as the rest of the cast. A must see for every cinema lover. Directing: 5.5! The Godfather

At the moment I can't think of a movie that has so many memorable scenes as this... Marlon Brando is excellent as one of the most memorable characters ever on film. The whole cast is awesome, and Francis Ford Coppola makes one of the greatest cinematic achievements ever, so as he does 2 years later with Part II. Directing: 5 Acting: 5 Story: 5 Originality: 4.5 Visual elements: 4.5 Impact: 5 Enjoyment: 5 Music: 5

Persona

Ingmar Bergman's best film! This surrealistic movie explores human aspects in a way no one else has done before. Bergman's head shots are wonderful, we actually reinvented the aesthetic of human faces on film. He really knew how to pull the story in a way you can actually understand, being the story so complex and difficult to get to it. And also, Liv Ullmann and Bibi Andersson make excellent performances, specially Andersson who plays the most multidimensional character, one of the most intriguing in any movie I had seen. Directing: 6! Acting: 5 Story: 4.5 Originality: 5 Visual elements: 5 Impact: 5 Enjoyment: 4.5 Music: 5

Vertigo
PG
A perfect film by Hitchcock! Beautifully crafted. Action all over the place, and the climax just blew me away. A movie abut desire lead to obsession. The transformation from "good" to the "wicked character" in the movie. One of the most beautiful cinematographies I had ever seen, and some new camera works, like the zoom-dolly combination to create that "vertigo" emotions among the audience. Hitchcock will always be remembered as a genius! Directing: 5 Acting: 5 Story: 5 Originality: 5 Visual elements: 5 Impact: 5 Enjoyment: 4 Music: 5

Mogari no Mori (The Mourning Forest) (The Forest of Mogari)

I recommend you see...A movie so terrible I'm not even going to review it.
Seriously, this is garbage on the lowest level. It exists for two reasons only: 1) the purpose of plugging a tv series; and 2) making money of Star Wars fans/suckers.
The original Star Wars is a franchise that really succeeded early on because we thought its campiness and silliness was deliberate. With the prequels we saw that perhaps Lucas just couldn't write, either that or the actors couldn't pull it off. Whatever the case, he somewhat redeemed himself with the decent Revenge of the Sith, only to totally alienate and exploit his fans with this absolute piece of trash. Its lazy, poorly animated, and dead in the water. The voice acting brings phoning it in to a whole new level.
I advise everyone to stay away from this. I saw this for free and I still feel ripped off. Please, let the franchise die with what dignity it has left. Don't give Lucas and company your money for this lazy schlock.posted 18 hours ago -

Frozen River
by MichaelA gritty independant gem. FROZEN RIVER feels almost like a documentary, with it's shoe-string budget, HD shakey cam photography, and very believeable performances. A gripping story and lush snow-covered locales reminded me a little of Fargo, but there is no dark comedy, or comedy of any kind here! Expect to be saddened and a little depressed, and you may be truely surprised.
Melissa Leo gives easily one of the best performances this year. Lets see if she's remembered come Oscar time. Here's one worth looking for. A great first effort from director Courtney Hunt, featuring one of the year's best performances.

Segundo Rubens Ewald Filho
Hey, you should really see this!

A Man for All Seasons
by Lucy"William Roper: So, now you give the Devil the benefit of law!
Sir Thomas More: Yes! What would you do? Cut a great road through the law to get after the Devil?
William Roper: Yes, I'd cut down every law in England to do that!
Sir Thomas More: Oh? And when the last law was down, and the Devil turned 'round on you, where would you hide, Roper, the laws all being flat? This country is planted thick with laws, from coast to coast, Man's laws, not God's! And if you cut them down, and you're just the man to do it, do you really think you could stand upright in the winds that would blow then? Yes, I'd give the Devil benefit of law, for my own safety's sake! "
