Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans - R If there was one adjective that would describe this movie, look no further since it is in the title itself. BAD.

The movie started interestingly. I actually had a few good laughs, thinking that finally, Nicolas Cage has finally ended up with a better project, coming from some really poor choices such as Bangkok Dangerous, The Wickerman and etc. But this one seem to belong on that list of movies. Well, it's either I just don't get the type of humor this movie was aiming for or it is really badly executed. I just can't keep my eyes open during the movie.

Serendipity - PG-13 Two strangers meet while shopping for a pair of gloves during the holidays. The attraction between them is undeniable, but since both are committed to someone else, they both agreed to let fate lead them back to each other at time neither of them knows when.

I must say I'm one of the few people (belong...ing to the female specie) who wasn't captivated by this movie. I just don't think that it's romantic to hurt other people by leading them to believe that you want to spend a lifetime with them when you are thinking of someone else. ohhh bitterness! LOL.

Kate & Leopold - PG-13 An inventor accidentally travels more than two centuries to the future
when he runs after a struggling scientist whom he thought was stalking
him. In the future, he meets an ambitious ad executive who at first
doubted his identity, but soon they fall in love and ...are then faced
with the problem of who stays or who goes back in time.

The plot is either a little too simple or has one too many loopholes,
but if you just let yourself enjoy it as it is, you'd come out feeling
good after seeing it. I definitely couldn't imagine anyone else playing
Leopold but Hugh Jackman, who brilliantly delivers a charming
performance.

Saw VI - R The more gory it becomes, the weaker the story is. Not that I'm complaining, but being a fan of the series, it gets tiring to see people get killed just because they weren't able to help Jigsaw out during the moment they first met him. I guess the series would eventually end when they ran out of interesting characters to connect to Jigsaw. December 8, 2009

Schindler's List - R After enduring more than 2hrs of watching movies (each) like 2012, New Moon and Funny People, I thought of stretching my attention span a little bit more and finally got myself a copy of one the movies that i can easily add to my list of "Movies I regret not seeing on the big screen". I h...ave always had a soft heart for movies that show how the thirst for power and superiority can make people do the most brutal and violent acts toward other people. It's even more heart-wrenching when you see it being done to children. The scary part is that it still happens today, and while it may not be of the same magnitude, the reality of it is enough to make one think that it's never safe anywhere. Truly one of Spielberg's cinematic gems. December 2, 2009

Triangle - R A single mother joins a group of friends in a yachting trip, but a sudden rainstorm causes their boat to capsize, leaving them stranded in the middle of an ocean. A large ship then passes by and they board the ship thinking that they are being rescued. Once aboard, they noticed that the ship was empty. O...r at least that's what they thought.

No, it's nothing like the movie Ghost Ship, which was what I initially thought it was like. It's not even a version of one of the "bermuda triangle" myths, which the title seemed to imply. What it is, IMO, is a movie that has a potentially good plot, but then it plays with the concept it was built on so much that it turns out to be as confusing as a mathematical problem. LOL. I wanted to like this movie since I have always been fond of movies that makes your head ache trying to figure out why things happen as they do, but this is one of those movies that overdid it. My head is still aching until now. LOL.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon - PG-13 This easily moves up in my list of "Movies which Put me to Sleep." I just can't understand why there is so much hype about this movie when it's just full of boring actors whose range of emotions is limited to stony to apathetic. The only character I like is Alice, which is the most "alive" character in the movie. Everyone else just either sound like they were reading the lines out from the script or were about to doze off to dreamland. And it's just so full of cheesy, cliche lines that I can't keep myself from rolling my eyes everytime someone blurts out an overused dialogue. November 22, 2009

2012 - PG-13 As a series of tragic events begin to unfold, leading to the world's final moments, we see how different people from different continents go through these toughest times.

I have always considered myself a skeptic on all these end of days stuff but i was crying during most parts of this movie. Brilliant cast and directing.

I can safely say that this movie is The disaster movie to end all disaster movies. :))

Law Abiding Citizen - R After witnessing the violent deaths of his wife and daughter, and despite his testimony, the law decides to set the killer free, Clyde Shelton puts justice in his own hands and sets out to exact revenge, both to the killer and those involved in the case.

No matter how I try to ignore it, I still keep seeing King Leonidas even if its a different role that Gerard Butler is playing. While I thought the movie had a great plot to work on, i just felt that it lacked on the character development aspect. I just couldn't sympathize with any of the characters.

The Shining - R I must agree that this film truly deserves to be called a classic. Scary may be one of the ways to describe it, however, when I think of a scary movie, what usually comes to mind is someone like Jason or Michael Myers. I guess you can say the same thing about how Jack Nicholson played Jack Torrance esp during the iconic "Here's Johnny!!!" scene. And what pure horror you get from Shelley Duvall's reaction just puts the nail on the coffin. Who would want to be isolated in a huge, old hotel with an axe-wielding madman, neh? Even if it was your husband, that would still be a horrific predicament.

On the downside, the only minor problem I had with this movie is that it was long and tended to drag. I have yet to read the novel so there's no way for me to compare, and to check consistency-wise.

Paranormal Activity - R When I was warned that watching this movie requires patience, I expected that it meant that the spooky stuff would happen in the last part of the movie. When I read that this isn't the usual in-your-face horror/slasher movie, I psyched myself that this wouldn't be like the gory, scary movies that I'm used to seeing.

But even with these in mind, even with the low expectations, I still was disappointed in the movie. True, there are some scenes that creeped me out a bit, but being someone who prefers the gory stuff, none here really scared the hell out of me. However, I do agree that the build-up was there, it's kind of crazy having to see the couple try to live normally during the day, and then deal with the paranormal activity during the wee hours.

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs - PG Bill Hader lends his voice to Flint Lockwood, a frustrated inventor who wanted to break free from his father's sardine business. He soon gets recognition when one of his inventions miraculously turns rainfall into food, and what's even better is that any one can request for any f...ood and the machine can easily make them - from pancakes to steaks. Predictably, the food-making machine coined as the "FLDSMDFR", has its limits and starts creating a foodstorm of gigantic proportions.

A very enjoyable watch, I think Bill Hader is one of the most underrated comedians out there. Watch out for Benjamin Bratt's character...I actually had a hard time figuring out it was him. :D

In the Valley of Elah - R A retired military investigator seeks out the help of a local police officer when his son goes AWOL after arriving from a tour of duty in Iraq.

It's a bit dragging for my taste but the great performances make up for this. Tommy Lee Jones deserves the Oscar nom. Susan Sarandon also delivers a short, yet memorable performance.

Zombieland - R Columbus only wanted to go back home after the whole world as he knew it turned to Zombieland; then he meets Tallahassee, who, apart from being obsessed in killing off zombies, is crazy over Twinkies. In a quest to find them Twinki...es, they are led into a grocery store where they met Wichita and Little Rock, two of the most scamming sisters one would ever know.

I certainly had a blast watching this movie. The witty one-liners just keep coming and coming. The part where they were in BM's mansion is probably my favorite. However, Shaun of the Dead still tops my list of zombie-comedies.

The Echo - R An ex-convict settles at his dead mother's apartment and tries to get back to his old life, but things get more complicated when he begins hearing noises and seeing people in the next room.

This horror movie is based on an origina...l Filipino thriller entitled Sigaw. Hollywood producers stick to their reputation of claiming "re-making" Asian movies but actually, it's just retaining the main characters and a completely different plot is spun. I must say that I have mixed feelings about this movie; while I couldn't be more proud to see hollywood take interest in a locally-made movie, I just didn't think it was as scary as I had heard it would be. The scares mostly rely on sound which I found irritating.

Shuttle - R Two friends travel to Mexico hoping for a memorable vacation but a late shuttle bus ride from the airport turns horribly wrong when they realized that they are being transported in a place that is not part of their plans.

I wanted to like this movie but again, I couldn't stop thinking how stupid the characters are. They obviously outnumber their kidnapper(s) but they just make the wrong decisions!

Fame - PG I felt like I was just watching music videos with intermissions in between. It was a daring move to cast actors and actresses who were practically unheard of and never been seen in the industry, a risk that did not pay off. If this movie boasts of the talented cast, I have to say that I've seen better vocal and dance performances from talent shows on TV. Better skip this. October 15, 2009

(500) Days of Summer - PG-13 This is a story of a boy who meets a girl who he thought was the girl of his dreams. Unfortunately, the girl doesn't share the same beliefs. But Tom takes a risk and pursues Summer. Through 500 days, we are taken on a ride, sometimes funny, sometimes sad. But it was sure worth it. As the voice over says, "This is a story of Boy-meets-Girl, but you should know upfront, it's not a love story."

This is one of those movies that I couldn't help but feel for the lead character. Very well-acted by Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel (but I still think there's something different with those eyes). This movie tackles the age-old debate between fate and taking chances when it comes to finding love.

PS: The narrator sounds like the one who did the voice-over for Texas Chainsaw Massacre toward the end part of the movie. Creepy.. :)

The Ugly Truth - R I've always said that Gerard Butler is more appealing when he does an action movie but surprisingly, I found him really convincing in playing a s3xist a$$. I'd have to agree that this was funnier but less romantic than The Proposal. The scene at the restaurant was embarrassing, but probably one of the funniest movie moments I've seen. October 2, 2009

Surrogates - PG-13 If you're a fan of John McClane and the Die Hard movies and you want to see good 'ol Bruce Willis in action, you may get disappointed on this one. There were a few action scenes on here, which I guess was understandable since this is a sci-fi movie but I somehow felt there wasn't that much action/excitement. I also couldn't help but feel like I was watching a version of Daniel Craig's and Nicole Kidman's The Invasion. I know, they're supposed to act "robotic" but it seemed like they were "high" instead. Ving Rhames was also a miscast, I thought he was laughable playing The Prophet and I almost expected that he was going to break out into a reggae song. LOL. I, RObot is a hundred times better than this, I swear. September 29, 2009
