a landmark mystery/horror made by warner brothers, this was later remade (twice) as house of wax. much as i love vincent price, i think this one is superior altho it has a healthy dose of comedy too. after being disfigured in a fire at his london museum, lionel atwill moves to new york and tries to recreate his masterpieces in wax. when bodies start vanishing from the morgue, intrepid reporter glenda farrell is on the case. also starring fay wray as farrell's rommate, who looks a little too much like marie antoinette...this was the last picture from a major studio in the early two color technicolor process
the third film follows milo, the serbian crime lord, in dealing with his business and his family. the frightening character from the previous films is revealed to have problems of his own. he struggles with sobriety while things slowly spin out of control, culminating in a horrifically bloody scene that would never make it into an american film. all three highly recommended to fans of gangster and crime drama
the second film in the pusher trilogy follows frank's buddy from the first, played by mads mikkelsen. tonny is a coked up and edgy loser who gets no respect. his efforts to impress his gangster father and deal with his new found baby son are heart wrenching. just as fast moving and intense as the first film and maybe even better
the original silent film based on victor hugo's novel that inspired sardonicus and of course the joker from batman. conrad veidt in the lead role is much more sympathetic than those characters and it's as much a love story as gothic horror, like hunchback of notre dame and phantom of the opera. german expressionist director paul leni gives it alot of style and veidt is fantastic, wearing a prostethic mouthpiece that didn't even allow him to speak
omg hilarious. actually i felt a little sorry for joan. this is what happened to female stars who were considered too old to play romantic leads. i would love to own this poster tho :p
a tough realistic crime thriller about a bad week in the life of a small time drug dealer. there's a palpable atmosphere of dread that keeps u on the edge of your seat. good performances all around. i look forward to the sequels
