Mirrors
by EdKiefer Sutherland on 24: "My name is Jack Bauer. Terrorists are threatening my family! They are in grave danger. Please! You have to help me. There isn't much time."
Kiefer Sutherland in Mirrors: "My name is Ben Carson. The mirrors are threatening my family! They are in grave danger. Please! You have to help me. There isn't much time."
You can pretty much tear this movie apart in terms of its narrative clumsiness, the (lack of) intelligence in the characters, and Alexandre Aja's obsession with pointless gore. But this one really is a guilty pleasure. I hated Aja's previous films (High Tension, and The Hills Have Eyes), but here he delivers some pretty entertaining stuff, and some really cool set designs.
Put it this way. You've seen the trailers. You go see this movie, you're going to get exactly what the trailers are promising. If that's not what you want to see, why are you paying to be in this theatre?posted 3 days ago -

American Teen
by EdI don't care how staged and scripted this doc is, how many dumb critics/audience members think it's all a big cliche, or how reminiscent the stories are to episodes of Laguna Beach or The Hills, this is a 100% accurate description of high school life. It covers people from every clique - their personal and public lives - and makes you root pretty much for every one of them. Not to mention, it's really funny. You will meet these kids in every high school in North America.

Pineapple Express
by EdFor a comedy, it certainly was...uh...violent.
Some funny scenes, but on a whole, I wasn't able to get into it. I blame director David Gordon Green, who previously made two wonderful Indie gems, Snow Angels - one of this year's best films - and All the Real Girls. He seems to be uncomfortable with directing comedy. He stages the action in a really gritty, realistic way that doesn't fit the tone of the movie, and then to muster laughs from the audience, he just lets Rogen and the gang improvise dialogue. How else can explain how this movie turns from Superbad to Heat in its second and third acts?posted 4 days ago -
