Simply mesmerizing. I have no doubt that had this been a theatrical release it would have been a serious best picture contender. Stephen Rea's performance is outstanding. Rea plays a forensic analyst forced to turn detective when assigned to catch a killer praying on children. He must also fight a political battle just to get the minimum amount of resources he needs to catch this killer from a government that officially denies the possibility that such a monster could exist in Soviet Russia. ("Serial killing is a decadent Western phenomenon"). The fact that it is based on an actual case makes it all the more astounding. Brilliant. |

The best picture of 2005. There is no way Crash should have won the Oscar over this film. At least the Globes got it right, as they strangely do sometimes. Excellent writing, breathtaking cinematography, superb acting, particularly from Ledger who should have won the Oscar for best actor. I love this movie. |
