Paranormal Activity.
Every once in a while there has to be a version of what has been done already. This is the case of Paranormal Activity having its resemblance to the Blair Witch Project. Nevertheless many of you may have the opinion that it has been done already, movies have this necessity to come out again and try to make a hit for a second time. For Paranormal Activity it did succeed since it caught the attention of everyone. Nevertheless you may got scared or not, the public went into the theaters and paid for the experience. And so another low budget film has made itself a reference for future independent productions.
With no script, no state of the art technology for the special effects, no soundtrack, a few actors and actresses and only one camera, this story presents itself like the most paranormal activity that can ever happen to anyone. With no story behind or further then what we watch through the film, this movie catches the attention of a ?real life event? that happen in suburban San Diego some years ago. And so, the chain of events was caught in video just as a coincidence and brought to the audience thanks to people related to the protagonists.
With such little background but with the reference of an event that ?it really happen? the story evolves with ?real life dialogues? and a simple problem to be solve: the presence of an evil force.
There are not possible explanations for its presence, neither for its acts. This presence is just something that exists and does evil deeds. You won?t need to know anything else, and even better you won?t have to judge how original or realistic is this ?evil presence? since it never materialize it self. Some may not like this since there is not a character to associate your fears and later on disguise in Halloween, but I thought it was just brilliant to leave the villain off of any personification and let it have its moment while the victims just wonder while something bad could came out of thin air.
Paranormal Activity is great movie not for its direction, nor its acting, neither for the story itself but for its capacity to take the audience into that haunted house and make them believe that it really happen. Too impressive for a low budget independent movie, no comparison with those huge Hollywood productions that predicts the end of the world.
