OK so I walked away from this movie with a bruised hand and hating the ending.
It was a thriller in the beginning with plenty of scenes to make you jump, and by the way my friend was squeezing my hand so hard I knew it was good.
Watching Neville and his dog Sam walk around the deserted NYC was interesting to see what or who they would bump into. When you first see the monsters or whatever they were (I won't call them zombies) they did look scary. I thought they were vampires from the trailers.
Stupid Sam for running into the dark building!
I was so jumpy from the movie even the mannequins were freaking me out. I was staring at the screen just waiting for them to move. C'mon Fred talk!
The major problem I had with the film was it didn't really explain anything. The flashbacks didn't give enough information as to what happened. And when it ended I was like WTF?! Did the director just give up in the end? Oh and the whole Bob Marley thing was totally overrated!
So I would recommend this movie if you don't mind bad endings and you have a strong hand. I know mine will be hurting for awhile!

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
    by ~Lissa~
Who knew a musical could be this entertaining! I think this movie will go down as another classic Johnny Depp/Tim Burton collaboration.
I knew there was going to be singing but I didn't know this was a musical before I saw it. I could tell from the first scene of Sweeney Todd and Anthony on the ship though.
The story was really engaging and I think this is why you can forget they are singing the story instead of telling it.
The death scenes would have been a lot more gorier if Todd hadn't been singing as he was doing it. That also made you forget how gruesome it was even when blood splattered on the camera.
I loved how the scenes were so dark and how the characters looked so pale.
Excellent acting by all including Sacha Boron Cohen who was pretty funny. I heard that Depp had no formal training before this movie and that is amazing as he sounded great. Accompanied by Helena Bonham Carter and it was music to my ears. It was also fun seeing Timothy Spall show up in this movie since I had just seen him previously in Enchanted.
I can't imagine anyone not liking this movie even if you don't like musicals. I wish all were this entertaining.
Definitely a must see movie and I will be surprised if it doesn't get any awards.
    Go watch it now!

Christian Bale has not let me down yet!

I think the best movies are sometimes those that are based on true stories.

This is not a war movie but more of a POW movie. Dieter Dengler is on his first flying mission and goes down in Vietnam. He tries to survive while he waits to be rescued but is captured after a few days. When he gets to the camp he meets some other guys, including Steve Zahn who acted excellent in this movie.
He was very cocky in the beginning and absolutely believed that he could escape with the others. It was believable after watching what he did with the nail. It is also hard to distinguish Bale from being Batman because c'mon you can't capture Batman!

I think this is a thrilling movie since you don't know how or if they are going to escape. Bale loses so much weight over the course of the film and you can understand why he is happy to eat insects and a snake. Was the snake still alive though, we couldn't tell.

Great acting by everyone and definitely worth a see!

Full Metal Jacket Full Metal Jacket
    by ~Lissa~
Wow! The movie begins with basic training and then ends with a kill.
I have enjoyed all of Stanley Kurbrick's films and I must see more.
In basic training you experience what it feels like to turn an innocent mind into a killer. I knew something had to happen to Pyle as soon as the rest of the guys had to take the fall for him. Who knew soap could hurt so much.
When the drill sergeant is screaming at them it was sickly funny because it is so silly what he says, yet he is slowly tearing them apart. I have a techno cd that goes along to the beat and you can hear him say "I am in a world of shit" and "I will tear out your eyes and skull fuck you".
I love the way it was shot when they were moving through the buildings and it feels like you are peeking over their shoulders.
Also when they were doing the interviews.
This is by far one of the best war movies! I was surprised when it ended since it was kind of abrupt but nice song to go out with.
Go see this movie, even if you saw it years ago!

    The Mist The Mist
    by ~Lissa~
This movie was so fun to watch! The best part is the ending. You can truly tell it is a Stephen King movie by the way it ended. As you watch the credits roll, you just sit there wondering why it had to end like it did.
When "The Mist" moves into the small town after an electrical storm, a group of people take refuge in a supermarket after one of them runs in bleeding, screaming something is out there.
It is crazy how a group of people can change so drastically after just a few days of being terrified.
At the beginning, everyone thought the bible preaching woman played by Marcia Gay Harden was annoying but by the end of the movie she had followers.
Speaking of which, being trapped in a supermarket with some crazy lady preaching the word of god is terrifying enough.
Even though there were some parts that were a bit cheesy and some of the creatures didn't look real, it was still an overall fun movie to watch.
I jumped a few times and yes I did have the urge to yell at the screen for them to run.
I would recommend seeing this movie!

    Rear Window Rear Window
    by ~Lissa~
I love this movie! It is my favorite James Stewart film and possibly my favorite Alfred Hitchcock film.
I love how the story is pretty simple, a photographer is stuck in a wheelchair with a broken leg and he looks through the "Rear Window" to watch his neighbors.
The viewer only sees what he does and it all takes place in his apartment.
Does he really see his neighbor covering up the killing of his wife, or is it his imagination getting the best of him? Go watch this movie and find out!

This is a heart wrenching movie about a young boy Chavo who is caught in a civil war in El Salvador.
Chavo is a sweet boy who became the man of the house at 11 when his father left as soon as war broke out. He must protect his sister and brother, hiding them under the bed when machine gun bullets shoot throughout his village.
He is still able to enjoy some of his childhood, playing with his friends and falling in love for the first time.
Sadly that is as far as his childhood goes as the fighting worsens and he must run to save his life.
I thought it was great acting by the little boy Carlos Padilla, he showed the emotions so well.
I will agree this movie is similar to City of God since it shows young boys brought into violence at such a young age. However, this movie doesn't progress into the grown up version.
The scene where all the boys are hiding on the roof tops was what did it for me.
Scary to think this happened in the 1980s and boys taken in by armies to fight against each other still happens to this day.

Woody Allen tries something similar to match point. This turns out to be more tragic and cursed and of course includes the irony that Allen loves so much. A must see because of the great photography, music and acting. You couldn't imagine that Colin Farell could act like that.

    Beowulf Beowulf
    by ~Lissa~
I loved watching this in 3-D! I can't imagine watching it any other way because I definitely think it made it a better movie. It's also fun to look around and see how goofy everyone looks with the glasses on. Damn right I kept mine!
I liked the CGI and the movie was visually appealing. When Grendel is terrozing the villagers and biting heads off, that was fun to watch.
I didn't recognize Anthony Hopkins at first but by the time he sobered up, I did. I also didn't know who Ray Winstone was, I really thought Beowulf was Sean Bean.
I had seen previews showing Angelina Jolie but when I finally saw her, I looked around and wondered what rating it got.
Of course the men couldn't take their eyes away from her and were easily seduced by her. I felt bad for the queen that she had to take whatever man was made king next. Why didn't she have a bed warmer?
Overall it was a fun movie to watch in 3-D. I wouldn't recommend watching it any other way!

    American Gangster American Gangster
    by ~Lissa~
Wow! Perfect casting with Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe!
Even though this movie is called American Gangster I wouldn't say it was a gangster movie. I say this because usually in gangster movies like Scarface, you only see the gangster side of things. In this movie you get to see it from the cops perspective along with what he was going through at the time.
I seriously could not think of better actors than Denzel and Russell in these two roles.
Frank Lucas was so cool, calm. and collected passing off as a gentleman while Richie Roberts was the good cop trying to bring him down.
I have to admit this movie moved a little slow but I think that was because there were no glorified killings and it was more about the business.
To think of how clever Frank was to use the military to bring the drugs over and how he sold the Blue Magic for so cheap, how could he lose.
It is funny to think of how he saw himself as a family man even though he was selling a substance that showed killed people. The scene where the baby is crying on the filthy bed as her mom lays back oding is pretty sad.
I also think its pathetic when the wives of gangsters always get mad when they act the way they do, why they go crazy when someone tries to show them up. Where did they think all the money was coming from?
This was a great movie and I bet anyone that likes gangster or cop movies will love it. Hmmm actually if you just want to see a great movie, go check this one out!

The English Patient The English Patient
    by ~Lissa~
Finally got to see this movie after years of hearing how good it was. I had previously tried to watch it but I didn't see it from the beginning and just got bored.
Thankfully it was on last night when I couldn't fall asleep at midnight. I don't mean it helped me fall asleep, it just gave me something to do....until 3am! Damn this was a long ass movie! But it did take that long to tell the stories.
I like the mad kind of love between Kristin Scott Thomas and Ralph Fiennes. Like the scene where she is smacking him and he just grabs her and starts kissing. Juliette Binoche did a lovely job as well as the nurse that takes care of him while falling in love with the bomb checker. Boy was he lucky he didn't get blown up.
I'm glad I finally got to see this movie and if you haven't yet, you should! If I could stay up until 3am watching it, you should be able to do it to!

This is a great Parker Posey movie. I have always liked her and she was her usual quirky self.
It was sad but funny watching her go through the bad first dates and having her mother constantly remind her that she was single and not getting any younger.
When Nora meets Julien she tries to learn from her mistakes but it's kind of hard to tell a dashing Frenchman no. With that accent, I don't blame her!
The music that went along with the movie was really good.
I'm glad I watched this movie and if you are a Parker Posey fan, you will too!

When I saw the previews to this movie I wanted to see it just because it had Adam Sandler in it. When I saw the preview again I wanted to see it because it looked like a great movie. When I finally realized Don Cheadle was in it, I knew I had to see it.
Great outstanding movie! Why I didn't hear more praise for this movie I do not understand.
Charlie is lost after he loses his wife and three daughters in a plane crash. The fact that it was one of the planes that went down on 9/11 gave me mixed feelings though.
Adam Sandler's character reminded me of his character in Punch Drunk Love but this movie was better than that one. I think it was Don Cheadle that did it.
It was funny how he waited outside for Liv Tyler to come down to talk about his imaginary friend. You know the one we all talk about when we don't want to admit it is us. I liked Liv Tyler in this role and it was funny in the courtroom when the lawyer, who I was happy to see was B.J. Novak from The Office, mentioned her youth and Charlie was like what you are late for little league.

So anyways, this is a really good movie. Great acting by all and great but sad story. I'm sure you will enjoy it as much as I did.

I was really looking forward to this new Steve Carell movie and although I wasn't totally lissapointed, I thought it wasn't as funny as i hoped. It is a feel good movie though.
Dan Burns is doing his best to raise three daughters after his wifes death. He writes great advice but doesn't know how to follow it himself until he meets his brother's new girlfriend in a bookstore, before he knows who she is.
The movie did have a few good laughs. It was a bit slow in some places. Good thing I had someone to make out with in the back of the theater.
Seems odd that Juliette Binoche was in this movie since she is such a great actress. I mean she had to act like she liked Dane Cook? And I thought Dane Cook was suppose to be funny?
Overall not a bad movie, just wait for the dvd.
