This is one light hearted comedy that Disney should have picked up but MGM didn't do too bad in bringing to the young families out there in need of a clean simple responsible comedy. See it if you are that type of crowd...in that type of mood.

action horror flick starring George Clooney, Harvey Keitel, Juliette Lewis and Quentin Tarantino. directed by Robert Rodriguez.

brothers Seth and Richie Gecko (Clooney, Tarantino) are criminals on the run. they encounter Jacob Fuller (Keitel) and his family at a motel and end up taking the former priest and his family hostage. the Geckos decide to take the Fullers with them to meet up with their contact at the strip club The Titty Twister, on the boarder of the US and Mexico. but what lies within the club is more than just sex and booze and soon the criminals and the hostages find themselves working alongside one another to survive.

this film is why I love Rodriguez. he isn't afraid to go to the line of cheese and tiptoe along it. he always manages to find that balance between over-the-top silliness and just enough silly to make for a fun and good time.

gore. comedy. action. boobies. good stuff! ♥

A funny film set in 70's Manchester as a Pakistani family have a culture clash between the parents and kids over traditional Muslim values and English culture. Not quite as funny as I thought it would be, quite serious towards the end but it was still funny see the kids trying to out smart their father. A lot of familiar faces from English TV star in this.

Hey, it's ok but there are much better thrillers out there including Witness, Presumed Innocent also starring Harrison Ford.

A very average thriller that is quite slow at times. Lacking a lot of action and suspense. It's starting to look quite dated now and I think I got it mixed up with Presumed innocent, also starring Harrison Ford, which is a much better thriller as I recall.

First he let aliens blow up the white house, Godzilla damage New York, then he froze the world. This time Roland Emmerich simply sends the whole planet to hell. It takes 30 minutes to set up the premise and the characters, thankfully without digging too deeply into Mayan prophecies. After that, all hell breaks loose, slowly but more impressive with every minute. Which forces the audience to make a decision: suspend disbelief and have fun with the impressive display of destruction (as much fun as millions dying can be) or take the cynic stance how this and that is simply not realistic at all. The pace is breathless, only occasionally slowed by the expected emotional conversations, most of which do neither show a great sense for dialogue nor do they make you cringe in embarrassment. A few minor characters are not more than cardboards, but John Cusack performs convincingly and his character makes for a decent hero for the film. However, the conscience and beating heart of the movie is the always wonderful Chiwetel Ejiafor ("Serenity", "Children of men"), who pretty much steals every scene he is in. The last section of the film takes a more science-fiction oriented direction, with the ark project and the idea of how humanity would make sure not to get extinct after a global catastrophe, raising questions of morality on the way. That doesn't stop the movie from delivering a fast, exciting and breathtaking showdown, again, if you decide to let it get to you. In the end everyone has to decide on their own how they feel about this. The effects are top notch, the story neither as bad as feared, nor as great as it could be. The result is exciting popcorn entertainment, no more but also no less.

    Fireworks (Hana-bi) Fireworks (Hana-bi)
    by xGary
An ex cop tries to spend time with his dying wife during her final days, but a Yakuza loan shark refuses to leave him in peace. A typically understated marriage of violence and poetry from Beat Takeshi, Hana Bi examines loss and mortality in a deeply personal way. It shares many of the themes of Sonatine, but is not as brutally nihilistic; there is much warmth in the often wordless scenes with his wife which have far more humanity than the contrived schmaltz we are used to from most mainstream film making. Takeshi's laconic persona is taken to the extreme in this film as he silently deals with the loss of his child, his wife's illness and his guilt over his suicidal ex-partner's crippling injury, although he still manages to find humour with the use of some oddball supporting characters. In other words another typically brilliant and artful Beat Takeshi film.

The Magdalene Sisters The Magdalene Sisters
    by Lady
A brilliantly acted, very down to Earth story depicting realistic activities within the many of the asylums in Ireland during this era. Horrific circumstances that allows women to be treated as prisoners for shaming their families, whilst repenting their sins.

The individual stories of each are tales within a tale and are a harsh reality reflected of the time, where pride is thicker than water!

Hard hitting British Drama at it?s best.

    Black Narcissus Black Narcissus
    by Arianeta
Five young British nuns are invited to move to a windy "palace", former house of the concubines of an old general, in the top of a mountain in Mopu, Himalaya, to raise the convent of Saint Faith Order, a school for children and girls, and an infirmary for the local dwellers. The palace was once called "The House of Women" and is rather ornately decorated with erotic art. In the opening scenes, we are told that an order of Brothers had attempted to do the same thing as the Sisters, but failed. After the nun's arrival their "straight-laced" behaviour begins to loosen, their discipline becomes more lax, and the foundation of their self-image begins to change. The lonely and exotic place awake the innermost desires in the flesh of the sisters? This is one of the most beautifully composed colour films I have ever seen. I did not know that this film was shot entirely in a studio. Some of the matte shots are extremely realistic, and others look more like beautiful paintings. All this serves to reinforce the struggle between illusion and reality, and also passion and chastity. So Black Narcissus is filled with magic images and haunting echoes. The "flowering of the snows" scene is breathtaking. The chapel scene is frightening and tense. The "Bell" scene is horrifying. The final view of "The House of Women", viewed by Sister Clodagha from the valley below is heart-stopping: A mist rises slowly and inch by inch blots out the Palace, until it is only a dream in your mind's eye. Then, a large leaf is seen. One drop falls and then another, like tears of regret. A black umbrella is opened. Mr. Dean sits on his pony and runs his hand through his thick black hair. He had said the nuns would be gone with the first rain, and he was right?..memorable scenes?
The extraordinary performances in this film are complimented visually with the flawless cinematography. The cast is splendid. Deborah Kerr's tortured Sister Clodagha registers every emotion, every longing, every doubt and every fear with her eyes and the set of her chin. David Farrar as Mr. Dean, Flora Robson as Sister Philippa, Sabu as The Young General, and Jean Simmons as Kanchi are a superb acting ensemble. However it is Kathleen Byron as the emotionally disturbed Sister Ruth that you will remember the most after viewing this film.
Black Narcissus brings home the point that we are all sometimes far too ambitious, vulnerable, obstinate, passionate, and alas, human. So at last if you love great films, great acting or just stunning cinematography Black Narcissus will haunt you forever.
