About Me
Don't both sending me a friend request if we aren't movie-wise compatible. This is a movie site after all.

I like a variety of different films and I will watch any film with an open-mind, but I am not a chick-flick sort of girl. I like films with depth and meaning and films that hold powerful messages. I like dramas, thrillers, foreign cinema, gangster and Tarantino-esque films. I'm not a really big fan of modern cinema, films filled with too much CGI sicken me but I will try any film once.

I also love Music such as The Clash, The Beatles, Sex Pistols, Guns N' Roses, Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Blondie, Joy Division, Muse, Led Zeppelin, The Kinks, Velvet Revolver and The Rolling Stones.

City of God City of God R 5.0 Stars
Magnificent, powerful and totally compelling.
I felt transported into the City of God whilst watching this film, the director really makes you feel every inch of the film and care for and despise some of the characters.
It's a solid yet exciting film with faultless performances. Leandro Firmino was especially excellent as Li'l Zé, I don't think I've ever hated a character as much.
This film is wonderfully crafted with beautiful cinematography that takes you on an exhilirating and brutal journey into the slums of Rio de Janeiro. Probably one of the best foreign films I have seen, it stays with you. See this movie.
30 Days of Night 30 Days of Night R 3.0 Stars
I'm not going to be too harsh on 30 Days of Night because I think it's a good film for it's genre but it's no Citizen Kane. The gore and action is average, nothing you haven't seen before. On the other hand, it's storyline and situation is something fresh and different in the horror genre, I don't think we've witnessed a film set in Alaska where the sun doesn't rise for 30 days consecutively and where rather conveniently they happen to be invaded by vampires.
There is a creepy element to this film, it won't have you screaming but the vampires are ghastly creatures that speak in their own sinister language.
The acting is decent, Josh Hartnett is okay as the hero of the film but it's Ben Foster who steals the show. He seems to nail the strange psycho character everytime. I'm sure this guy has a successful career ahead of him.
Watch 30 Days of Night if you're bored out of your skull and need a decent horror fix, otherwise it only succeeds as being entertaining.
Downfall (Der Untergang) Downfall (Der Untergang) R 4.5 Stars
A compelling and powerful film, Der Untergang is a gripping depiction of one of the darkest and most brutal events in history. Set in Hitler's bunker in the last ten days of his life, this film makes you feel every inch of the atmosphere in the cramped and chilling bunker.
Bruno Ganz's performance of Hitler is nothing short of phenomenal, his portrayal of Hitler's insanity and desperation are extremely convincing. The rest of the cast give strong support.
This film is very draining because of it's lengthy running time, but it did not ever lose my interest or intrigue. Der Untergang is outstanding in many respects. I recommend this to anyone with an interest in war films or anyone with the patience to view it.
I Am Legend I Am Legend PG-13 3.5 Stars
I am Legend succeeds in being a highly entertaining and thrilling film. Will Smith gives a very powerhouse performance, possibly second in my opinion to his really great turn in The Pursuit Of Happyness, the year before. The first half-hour is excellent, you don't really know what is going on but the film succeeds in keeping you on edge. My problems with the film was the large amount of plot holes and faux pas and of course the terribly clichéd ending. All of the films of this sort seem to end with 'If I sacrifice myself, I'll save the rest of the world'. Clearly I'm sick of seeing it, I think the ending was thoroughly disappointing.
But if you would like a film that is tense and entertaining, watch this!
Control Control R 5.0 Stars
Electrifying, heart-breaking, incredible. Control is a stunning and thought-provoking film that definately plays with your emotions. Joy Division changed the face of music in the 1970's and this is the story of extremely talented yet doomed lead singer Ian Curtis.
Newcomer Sam Riley is a revelation as Ian Curtis, he compels the viewers and takes them along for the journey with him. Samantha Morton is tremendous also, she encapsulates the role of Curtis' neglected wife and really gives a sincere performance. I also must mention Toby Kebbell who plays Joy Division's manager, he plays his part very well too. The film is shot entirely in black and white which gives the film a very haunting atmosphere, the director seems to be obviously passionate about this subject which adds greatly to the quality of the film. The soundtrack is used very wisely, creating some very electrifying and poignant scenes. I'd recommend this film to anybody regardless that they know much or like Joy Division's music at all. This film is a worthwhile watch that's intense, engaging yet beautifully depressing.
Fracture Fracture R 3.5 Stars
Hopkins and Gosling saved the film from destroying itself and I'm sure if other actors had taken their roles, this film would not have been so great. The plot starts off intriguing but gets more complicated and I must admit that the story should have been told more clearly.
The script is excellent and Gosling and Hopkins work really well off each other. Rosamund Pike's character added nothing to the story and seemed unnecessary. The ending is a disappointing and could have been done much better. But if you want a film that keeps you guessing and has solid acting leads, I'd recommend Fracture.

Trainspotting 1. Trainspotting R 5.0 Stars
Gritty, sickly and disturbing but undoubtedly one of the best British films ever. This film has great black comedy and at times is hilarious, has some very memorable scenes; the chase at the beginning and who can forget 'Scotland's worst toilet'. I love Ewan McGregor in this and his skinny jeans. Bravo, Danny Boyle. An instant Classic.
A Clockwork Orange 2. A Clockwork Orange R 5.0 Stars
Disturbingly grotesque, but a damn good film. Kubrick is a master of film-making. It's a difficult film to sit through and it's understandable that some people find it sick and twisted. Malcolm McDowell shines in his role as ulta-violence addicted Alex DeLarge, leader of 'the droogs'. Although his character is horrible, the film has a strange way of making you feel sorry for him through the parts where he is cured. And to end it all ingenious uses of music to compliment the on-screen action.
The Usual Suspects 3. The Usual Suspects R 5.0 Stars
This is a tremendous movie in all aspects. I think this movie is the inspiration behind a lot of other movies to have a mind-blowing twist at the end. It is an excellent crime thriller that has to be in the top twenty films ever made. It has very eccentric but interesting characters which the actors play extremely well, Gabriel Byrne, Kevin Spacey, Benicio Del Toro, Stephen Baldwin to name a few. If you haven't seen this film yet, then sorry but you haven't lived.
Dog Day Afternoon 4. Dog Day Afternoon R 5.0 Stars
A highly enjoyable, tragic comedy. Al Pacino, performing what I think is one of the greatest peformances of his career, he leaves you in awe because he brings an undescribable energy to his performance. John Cazale is just riveting, the whole cast is just fantastic. Greatly directed, wonderfully written. This is one powerful movie here, it's a shame they don't make them like this anymore.
Bonnie and Clyde 5. Bonnie and Clyde R 5.0 Stars
'This here's Miss Bonnie Parker. I'm Clyde Barrow. We rob banks.' Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway are excellent in their title roles as well as Gene Hackman and Michael J. Pollard. This is an important piece of film-making of the 1960's and is most definately a landmark. A fast-paced, entertaining, quotable and violent film that makes you want the Barrow gang to succeed. The ending will leave you speechless. Highly recommended memorable classic.
Psycho 6. Psycho R 5.0 Stars
A perfectly suspenseful and enjoyable experience. Psycho is an astonishing masterpiece that set the standard in the horror/thriller genre. Anthony Perkins is really remarkable as Norman Bates, he is disturbed yet innocent, horrifying yet mesmerizing. I found myself spurring Norman on, to get away with it, he was that effective. Hitchcock crafts a masterpiece which is still today a scary ride. This film probably wouldn't be as great as it is without the incredible score from Bernard Herrmann. I adore this film, definately a must-see.

Wristcutters - A Love Story Wristcutters - A Love Story
    3.5 Stars by Lisa
I've heard a lot about this film recently so I thought I'd better see what all the fuss was about. The title set certain impressions of the film, so I didn't really bother reading the synopsis. I was wrong about that. I thought it would be about teenagers trying to commit suicide. I thought it would just be some bad emo film. I was glad that I was wrong. No, it wasn't excellent but it wasn't your usual love story either so it's always a pleasure to watch films that have a different take on things. The inexperience of everything really comes through in this film. Although it doesn't hinder the film in anyway. It showcases the young talent in all the different fields of film making. Some of the sequences are quite striking, especially the very first one. Patrick Fugit does a really great job in the leading role and all the other characters work well together. I really can't complain about any of it. Yes, there are flaws but nothing that would bother you an awful lot. A recommended film just because it's different.

Into the Wild Into the Wild
    4.0 Stars by Magali
The first thing to mention about this great film is Sean Penn's brillant job as the director. The images, the sequence of scenes, the mix of shoots, the contrast achieved by showing a situation of total despair followed by a joyful one. Everything compiles to form a marvellously filmed movie.
The leading characters' performance is a very strong one. This guy, Emile Hirsch (who was, till that moment, a total stranger to me) surprised me for good, with his good job.
The key question is the philosophy of life that is presented and how it can be changed by a strong feeling of loneliness. The characters' emotions are very well transmited, and the last scene in which the real protagonist of the story appears in a picture is...the perfect ending.
    Just a beautiful film.

    Iron Man Iron Man
    4.5 Stars by Ilya
    Iron Man (2008)
    Directed by Jon Favreau
Starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Terrence Howard, Jeff Bridges

"Tony Stark: [reading the newspaper] Iron Man? That's kinda catchy"

Tony Stark is a billionaire industrialist and genius inventor who is kidnapped and forced to build a devastating weapon. Instead, using his intelligence and ingenuity, Tony builds a high-tech suit of armour and escapes captivity. When he uncovers a nefarious plot with global implications, he dons his powerful armour and vows to protect the world as Iron Man.

Iron Man was touted to be a good film from the start, but boy; I didn't expect it to be "that" good. It is primarily good because of its stunning special effects. Now, those who are familiar with Iron Man comic book or even those who have seen the TV series will know what I am talking about. For others who are not familiar with Iron Man, this film has a strong storyline that shows briefly how Tony Stark came up with the Iron Man suit and why did he actually decided to create it. You will also see a man who decided to change his life, in order to fight against evil and help all those innocent people from getting killed. Sounds familiar? Yes, the story is not original but it is well delivered.

The plot is a typical superhero story; a guy who uses his talent for doing something completely irrelevant or something that only makes his life better, (creating weapons of mass destruction and selling them worldwide in this case) but after a terrible situation that put his life in danger opened his eyes, and so he decided to use his knowledge by helping humanity and protecting civilians from the bad guys. Only one difference to most of the other super hero flicks: just like Batman, Iron Man doesn't have any super powers. He is a normal man, only he is extremely good at machinery and engineering. He is a genius. So, while Tony Stark has being attacked by terrorists, he was brutally injured by his own weapon during the attack. This made him realise that he wasted his life by creating something that takes lives of innocent people. After the incident, he constructs a suit which will help him escape from his kidnappers an later on; he will create a much better version of this suit, in order to protect people around the world. But unfortunately for Tony, there is someone that wants to stop him from helping people, someone who only wants to earn money by causing other people deaths, and therefore Tony Stark must face this person and stop him from killing him and everyone else.

Robert Downey Jr. Plays Tony Stark. A thing about playing a superhero in the movie like Spider-Man or X-Men is that people will remember you for your role, no matter how well or bad you performed in this movie. Robert most certainly will be remembered as one of the best actors to play a superhero. He did ever so great; he acted as a typical jackass millionaire at the start of the movie, but later on he changed, he became more responsible and grateful for things he could have achieved if he was using his knowledge in a good way. He was witty, hilarious and the way he said all of his dialogues, all that was fantastic. He handled the role well, even though he is older that Tony Stark. Gwyneth Paltrow played Tony's fiancé Pepper Potts. She and Robert had a lot of mixture between them, they looked great together and their dialogues were often hilarious yet romantic. Terrence Howard played James Rupert Rhodes, a close friend of Stark and his future superhero partner War Machine. Terrence were good in his role, even though at times he looked a bit out of place, he was generally fine and even funny at times. Even though we don't get to see him as War Machine, we get a hint that he will definitely use the suit in the next Iron Man movie. Finally, Jeff Bridges plays Obadiah Stane, Tony's business partner and later his primal enemy of this film, Iron Monger. Jeff is extremely good as a bad guy, I can guarantee that you will dislike his character after the first time you see him in the movie.

Most of the superhero movies are famous for its special effects but this one had more than that. The dialogues were really good; they are brilliant throughout the whole movie. Cinematography is great, the light mixture is good and it is easy to watch the whole movie without moving your eyes away from the screen.

Overall, Iron Man movie is a pleasure to watch, especially on the big screen. While most of the superhero movies don't have what it takes to be called "super", Iron Man rose beyond expectations and quite easily became one of this year's best superhero movies. A massive credit to John Favreau for creating this stunning film that can be truly remembered as one of the best in its category.

Hey, you all probably seen this by now,and so have I (about a week ago), but I didn't had time to do a review straight away, and so i only finished it now. Definitly the best superhero I have seen so far, after Batman Begins of course. My mate at the ciname said after the film finished : " surely there is no film better than Iron Man in its category", on which I replied: " just you wait until The Dark Knight"...

All these movies are exactly the same. Same twist, same ending, same acting. Of course that would not make it a non-good film. The fact that Stallone's there trying to actually act, and not killing everyone is what makes it a 2 and half film, and not a three one.
Hey, you would probably not want to see this.

This is Tim Burtons worst film. This is definately a disgrace to the amazing film legacy of the great Tim Burton. A complete disaster. I dont know how anyone can say this film is good. The visual effects were really crap and acting was OK. One really good thing about this film was the amazing music from Danny Elfman once again.
Hey, you should really AVOID this! Tim Burtons worst film!!! Yet Tim Burton is a bloody legend!!
