| Terminator Salvation - PG-13 |
Hmm lots of thoughts on this one. First of all, The Terminator series ended for me after Terminator 2. I don't even recognize the atrocity that is Terminator 3 and The Sarah Connor Chronicles is non-canon. So when I heard 4 was being made, I had no expectations for it. I figured right of the bat that whatever they come up with, it would not hold up to my expectations nor the expectations of thousands of other terminator fans. My expectations were lifted a bit upon hearing Christian Bale was staring as John Connor but I haven't hyped myself to this film. Also T4 deals with the battle between Skynet and the resistance in a post apocalyptic world which is different in direction from the previous films so comparisons aren't exactly fair as the genre and setting is vastly different. So when I finally saw it, I didn't really watch it as a terminator film but rather as an action film with some terminator-like similarity. Its the only way I can see the movie without setting myself up for disappointment. And I was right. As a terminator film, i would rate it higher than T3 but both T3 and T4 do NOT do justice to the series and as Terminator films, both are extremely disappointing. But as a generic summer blockbuster action movie, it was...decent. The special effects were good, the new terminators were for the most part interesting except that huge...gundam size one..what the hell was up with that? There was a lot of action and the plot was okay enough as a summer action movie. I was disappointed with Christian Bale though, I don't think he carried John Connor properly and didn't add much to the lead role. The highlight was clearly Sam Worthington as Marcus and Anton Yelchin as a young Kyle Reese. And what the hell was Common doing here, I love the man..but horrible actor. So yea, as a terminator film..it gets pretty low marks and I hope they would just let the series die in peace instead of making half-hearted attempts at reviving it but as an action movie, i give it significantly higher marks. So with all that in mind, I'm going to rate this a 7/10 |

| Etz Limon (Lemon Tree) - Unrated | Heard only good things so decided to watch it. Hmm..perhaps I was expecting something different. Honestly, I was bored throughout most of the film. I tried to like it and i understood it as trying to depict the characters on an individual level going through their daily lives and giving some insight into the culture without digging deeper into the politics and whatnot that so many films involving the Israeli-Palestine issue do, but it was just so slow. I will say, it was very well acted and felt authentic but something just didn't click for me. 5.5/10 | December 14, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Duplex (Our House) - PG-13 | They were showing this on comedy central and i had nothing to do so i watched it. It was okay for the most part, the humor is not laugh out loud funny, its mostly dark humor which is fine with me. It goes on decently until the end...and they show the 'surprise twist' which ranks up there as one of the most dumbest endings I have seen. I wasn't excepting it in the sense that i hoped that the movie wouldn't be THAT bad to actually do what it did...but it did! Lost major points for that. 4/10 | December 14, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Observe and Report - R |
Saw this a few weeks ago and I honestly can't remember anything funny about it. A lot of swearing and shock humor...story is about Seth Rogen's character trying to catch this dude that keeps flashing ladies at the mall gets old. but it doesn't appeal as much anymore in this era of high speed internet and Youtube. This stuff is no longer longer edgy nor funny, atleast not to anyone that isn't completely a dumbass. There's just something about this film that...isn't funny. In fact, it left me feeling sad for this man, sad for the thousands of people, sad for some people I know personally that considers this type of behavior, this type of lifestyle 'normal'. The lowest common denominator is now something normal and that just leaves a bitter feeling in my mind. Its just not funny. I've heard from a few people that being under the influence of certain drugs might enhance the movie and this movie is possibly marketed towards that demographic (it is Seth Rogen afterall), but I just don't buy that and in fact I find that somewhat insulting to users of this particular drug as it further reinforces the negative stereotypes. Anyways, blah...this was a shit unfunny movie. 3/10 |

| Gamer - R | i thought this was gonna be terrible but i ended up liking it. The fighting scenes were done well, the plot was decent and the main villain was jokes. Some of it was cheesy but i didn't mind 7.5/10 | December 14, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Up - PG | Sick sick sick animation. The story is both sweet and sad and wonderfully told. The bird is frickin' hilarious. What I like about Pixar recently, is their animated films work on a level that is appealing to both kids and adults. Anyways, WALL-E is still number 1 in my book but this is great too. 8/10 | December 14, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Ninja Assassin - R | Boring. Action is basically this: shaky camera shaky camera shaky camera...blood..some random thing u cant really tell whats happening, blood, shaky camera. Movie couldn't decide whether it wanted to be an over the top action ninja film or a corny comedy featuring ninjas. Either way, it tried to do both and failed. Found myself laughing like crazy during some of the scenes just cause it was sooo unintentionally bad. The best part was probably the first scene before the title credits. Anyways, since it had some good parts and made me laugh uncontrollably albeit unintentionally, i give it a 5/10 | December 14, 2009 | N/A | |||
| State of Play - PG-13 | Felt a little outdated but i enjoyed it. I had lots of thoughts while watching and after it finished but i can't for the life of me remember what exactly happened in the movie and I have no intention to watch it again, once was enough. So yea, its a pretty forgettable movie with low replay value but I do remember thinking 'this is a smart and intelligent film' with a lot of twists and turns so its definitely worth a watch. The acting was superb and oh yea, Rachel McAdams is hot =) 7/10 | December 14, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Star Trek - PG-13 | I've never seen the Star Trek series so I don't know the characters or have any background to judge how they are portrayed in the film nor do I have the capability to pick out any inside jokes and whatnot but this was one of the best films i have seen. It had me hooked from start to finish! 9/10 | December 14, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Zombieland - R | I was enjoying this movie soooo much; it was graphic, cheesy, fast, silly, and fun...and then they introduced the girls and slowly the movie became a cliched teen drama with zombies in the background. WTF? Very disappointing. Near the end, i was bored and waiting for the movie to just finish because it no longer had the cleverness and fun that was present at the beginning of the film. 6.5/10 | December 14, 2009 | N/A | |||
| District 9 - R | If you go in expecting an action flick which many people did, you'd be fairly disappointed (though there is some action near the end). This movie was quite something unique and original. There were some serious undertones at the heart of this movie and while i didn't pick up on everything while viewing, i later decided to look up the movie and learned what the significance was about District 9. The graphics and cinematography was stellar and I was hooked throughout most of the film so I give it a 8/10 | December 14, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Year One - PG-13 | I HATE Jack Black, I despise him..this man is NOT funny. but damn, i laughed sooo much here that i can put aside my hatred for that man just this one time. It was pretty much making fun of judo-christian theology throughout the whole movie and all the biblical characters make an appearance and gets made fun off. David Cross as Cain was hilarious and Michael Cera was awesome here as well...The mocking of religion and having humanistic undertones was a plus as well. I liked this and i can see why others wouldn't. The humor here is either a hit or a miss. 8/10 | December 14, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Valkyrie - PG-13 | Great, don't let your hatred for Tom Cruise get in the way of you enjoying the movie. I already knew a bit about Operation Valkyrie so it was nice to see it being played out on the big screen. Barring some minor inaccuracies and over exaggeration of the level of success of the plot against Hitler, this movie worked well as a political thriller. Tom Cruise did a good job as well though his portrayal was somewhat one sided (might be the script) but this wasn't a documentary, it was a political thriller with clear good guys and bad guys so it was acceptable. 8/10 | December 14, 2009 | N/A | |||
| New York - Unrated |
I was pleasantly surprised by movie even though it was an unnecessary 3 hours long. The film can be broken into two parts; the first half is the back story and making sense of the situation and the second part switches to mostly an action drama/thriller. Without giving away the juicy details, its about 3 best friends living out their college years when 9/11 happened years ago. They went their separate ways after one friend learns the other two friends love each other (he loved the girl too also). Forward to the present, the FBI stages an event to arrest one of the friends (this is where the movie starts from) and uses him to spy on his friend from years ago (with who he has no contact and is now also married with the girl he loved) because they suspect he is a terrorist. He is coerced into agreeing and decides to do it so he can prove to the FBI that his past-friend really is innocent and is not capable of doing what the FBI accuses him off. Then there are the twists and turns that happens, we learn many things that the FBI initially kept from the friend about what happened to his friend and how it changed him for life. The later 3/4 of the movie is less political and more thriller/ action with some good lessons at the end of it all. This film really explores many different aspects of the war on terror, the effects it had on American Muslims, the detentions and torture that some innocent people went though but this isn't an anti-war/ anti american film. It also explores the mind of the extremists and their bankrupt ideology (the man heading this investigation is actually a Muslim). Overall, i felt this was a very balanced view which is something I was not expecting. I would really recommend watching this. 9/10 |

| Singh Is Kinng (S.I.K.) - Unrated | I actually liked this...a lot! It was funny and I was not bothered by the length too much cuz the humor was evenly placed and the story didn't drag too much. 8/10 | December 14, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Billu - Unrated |
Why do Bollywood movies have to be so excruciatingly long? If it weren't for the length, i would have liked it a lot more. Way too much unnecessary dialogue and during the climax when SRK gave his speech, it didn't fit with the rest of his speech and the events. I mean, come on... he randomly starts sobbing about his long lost friend out of nowhere, you're at a school event, not at your psychiatrist! Anyways, its a sweet simply story and the ending was touching but the length and the jorney we had to take to get to that point was dreadfully painful. 6/10 |

| Dostana - R | I saw the video for the song "Desi Girl" and decided to watch it cuz the girl was so hot. Thought it was funny though really obnoxious at some parts... The aunty was jokes. 7.5/10 | December 14, 2009 | N/A | |||
| No Country for Old Men - R | I can see why this was so acclaimed and the acting and style was incredible but ..it's just not my type of movie. I had this in my collection but I kept putting off watching this despite all the hype because it just didn't interest me and the 2 hour length deterred me and even the title and posters bored me. I finally got around to watching it and I had to try my best to not fall asleep and I didn't care for any of the characters or anything. All this could be forgiven had the ending been good but the movie started to fall apart during the last 25 mins and it doesnt redeem itself. Sorry, I tried to like it, the acting was solid, Tommy Lee Jones-love him, but this just wasn't my cup of tea. 5.5/10 | December 13, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Outlander - R |
I went into this movie not knowing what to expect as I knew absolutely nothing about it. After the movie finished, i was fairly pleased with what I saw. It's basically about a man from a different galaxy (time?) who's hunting this creature and they get transported to the Vikings Era here on Earth. He has to deal with the Vikings and try to gain their trust but what I really liked what the backstory told in flashbacks of why the man was hunting the creature in the first place and why the creature is hell bent on killing the humans. While the special effects isn't anything special, and there was nothing 'epic' or grand about the premise or the cinematography, I felt it was well acted, the mixing of multiple genres was done well and overall it was a very enjoyable film. 8.5/10 |

| Vals Im Bashir (Waltz with Bashir) - R |
This is one depressing film, even more so considering its a documentary. Don't be fooled by the animation aspect, this is a documentary and the animation adds to the story rather than detract it. Only criticism, and its an important one, is the excruciatingly slow pace which could be a turn off for some. But then again, this kind of film attracts a certain audience that will be willing to forgive the slow pace for the overall story. Besides that, man..i was impressed. Clearly moved me in a way I didn't except. Brutal. Depressing . Powerful. Brilliant. Must see. 9/10 |

| G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra - PG-13 | Waaay too long for a film like this and some of the dialogue/ acting was cringe worthy but overall it was enjoyable. 7/10 | December 12, 2009 | N/A | |||
| The Obama Deception - Unrated | I don't care much for Obama and welcome honest criticism but this is mostly conspiracy theory garbage. I feel bad for those that believe such nonsense, it must really suck to sleep with a tin-foil hat every night. | December 12, 2009 | N/A | |||
