This is a very interesting film, one that creates its own take on vampires in a way few other films have done so. The beauty in the cinematography creates haunting memories of what this film is, which is, perhaps, more-or-less, a hallucination, depending on the way you read it. It is quite masterful, although I cannot say, of course, that this film is for everyone. I'm sure, in fact, that the majority of people who simply watch film to enjoy themselves would not be interested in this highly technical "out there" film that comes from the earliest days of sound cinema. Then again, though, if you are interested in where the vampire films come into play, Nosferatu and Vampyr would be a good place to start. |
