I plan to - sorry to hear you were underwhelmed, but I've been genuinely excited about this ever since reading about the reception at this year's Cannes film festival, which ranged from admiration and horror to disgust, displeasure and hate (!) - that Lars, always the provocateur

King-on-screen in better shape than it usually is.

Stephen King adaptations're usually not worth a shit ("Misery" and "Apt Pupil" being the exceptions) with awful Kubrick's "Shining" in front row and I can understand King's frustrations he expressed in many occasions throughout the years. Is it really so difficult to catch the essence of King's writing? Appearently. "Needful Things" doesn't do a full justice to its source material, but it is throughoutly entertaining.

Decent drama about human nature with its greed, selfishness and jealousy, superbly acted all around with my favourite J. T. Walsh's performance.

Note: While it never find its balance, a wonderful cast does a great job in bringing the best of the material here, especially Kristen Stewart, whom I saw first time on the screen and loved every second of her performance.

arguably one of the masterpiece of the 2000's and if this doesn't convince you,try anything from the other 2 Martel films, the girl is a genius...

    by Dimitris
Martel defies the canonized "Catholic" topics by alienating the values of love, detest and sickness.Inner sickness, vacant passion and finally, that tempest called teenage years. The languid pace of the film doesn't repulse the viewer,on the contrary...I felt more repulsed by the holiness of certain characters, thus giving me a reason to disrespect their religiousness.

push Park Chan-wook and you'll definitely see the outcome of double-bill because...like with Ozu,Tokyo Story existed as a double-bill film...but when Flixster decided to merge the votings, they erased the other one without further notice,so...i bet a lot of people still keep it unbeknown to them in their favorites or ratings as usual...

aaa,the original titles is an issue, half of the films follow the IMDB content but i bet some additions were just a mish0mash of other sites...

BAD NEWS: This isn't so much a recommendation as an expression of OUTRAGE (!!!) -- Yahoo! News (Entertainment) just reported that SHUTTER ISLAND is being pushed back to February by Paramount (for financial reasons)... This was a tie for my #1 most anticipated film of October (as well as this year) with Lars Von Trier's ANTICHRIST and now I have to wait even longer?!? Aren't you mad?

the only goofball film of Kar-wai is Blueberry so far for me :)

aaaa,no,what i mean is that stupid Flixster sometimes adds double films,in the case of JSA there are 2 film titles for it but only one is the correct one, browse it once you come again and you'll see what i'm talking about..this has occured many times, typical examples were Europa and Teorema and Mouchette has 2 titles in its name and they still haven't fixed it...

tell it to that Rich Uncle Skeleton and Harry Long assholes, dude ;)
moreover, you should change your JSA rating because it's a double-bill film by Flixster, check the director and you'll see ;)
and why so much hate for Kar-wai????

p.s.: Aoyama i must watch because he's been on my endless list for some time now...

so i leave you with Up,a not-so-common comic flick and that was why its charm is one of a kind,nevertheless....it's definitely not one of Pixar's masterpieces.....
    Up Up
    by Dimitris
I wonder whether Pixar wanted to embrace old age or express its sentiment towards the longing for youth.Beats me,Up is a jolly portrait of 2 largely different personalities, with the same passion for journeys beyond imagination.Spot-on for Pixar indeed yet it left me with an unsatisfactory opinion in my head.Inside jokes aren't as they used to be and the whole sub-plots were pretty inferior to what Docter and co. did in Monsterers Inc.The dogs are cult animations though!!!

Hey there! Since I've been watching sooo many films lately and since I have ceased writing actual reviews on Flixster in favor of full-length reviews on my Wordpress blog, I thought I would at least give you guys some actual recommendations. I'm going to sum up by using the scale of TWO THUMBS UP (4-5 stars), THUMBS UP (3 stars), THUMBS DOWN (2 1/2 stars), or TWO THUMBS DOWN (2-0 stars) that Ebert has copyrighted and uses on his site. Here's the first one:

THUMBS UP: "Gigantic" is a slightly edgy independent film that is neither funny enough to be a comedy or serious enough to be a drama. Thus, it lies somewhere in that no man's land of indie world where you want to laugh but something in your gut prevents you. A lot going on here in Matt Aselton's debut film, too much if you ask me, but above all I liked the characters and relationships between Dano, Deschanel and Goodman. And what's with Zach Galifinakis as the homeless man?

Entre les Murs (The Class) Entre les Murs (The Class)
    by moi
Most movies about school/teaching tend to glorify the image of the professor. In a boring or hard enviorment, comes a different teacher that encourages and inspires all the students, even (or specially?) the most difficult ones.

"To Sir, with Love", "Dead Poet Society", "Dangerous Minds", "Mona Lisa Smile" are the names I can remember now, but I´m sure there are many others.

Some of them are really good or, at least, do what they are suppose to: to inspire. Inspiration. That´s where resides the great difference of "Entre Les Murs": it doesn´t have this ambition/ goal at all.
Based on the same-name novel written by the teacher François Bégaudeau, that plays himself on screen, the film shows the relationship teacher/student in a multi-ethnic and contemporary suburb of Paris, where the teachers are evrything but a hero.

Like Gus Van Sant did in "Elephant", Laurent Cantet chose a cast of real teachers and students/non-actors, what gives the film a natural and realistic atmosphere. The cast + the movements and proximity of the camera + the dialogues give the impression of a documentary that shows the difficulties of teaching in an info modern society
and brings up important issues in France today: immigration, race, French identity, suburbs (banlieues) versus cities and changes in the spoken French language.

Have you ever seen a trailer that looked stupid and forgettable to you, read a review that persuaded you to see the movie, spent about a third of the movie thinking your initial instinct was correct, and then find that you're wrong, ending up loving the film and believing the trailers were horrible misrepresentations of the film's quality? That's what my experience was with the latest from writer-director David Twohy (PITCH BLACK, THE ARRIVAL) - a slick, nervy, stunningly twist-laden thriller that packs a whallop and works. You could do a lot worse at the multiplex this weekend!

    Les Girls Les Girls
    by Sarah
Three dancers claim the affection of a dance master (Gene Kelly). There is the unavoidable taint of sexism in this set up, which I gave some leeway due to the film's vintage, but still.... Les Girls: There is the American (Mitzi Gaynor) who is sweet, the French girl (Taina Elg) who is sexy, and the Brit (Kay Kendall) who is unforgettable. Kendall sparkles in her role and rips the rug right out from underneath her competition,( including Kelly), with one drunken trumpet solo. One could question how any sane man could fail to choose Kendall, but the real question is why she would want any man so dim as to even consider choosing anyone else in the first place!

so what?the guy is not trying to ask for money or anything,he's doing what he fuckin' wants...

i know this is a weird recommendation for a film that it's only one zooming shot (and i won't reveal much because you'll all be annoyed except Bradski,haha),yet..

i specifically chose an unknown suggestion since it's been a year that am on the Flixster community and i must say...i'll stick u[ around here for a while longer :)
