Hey guys! I'm kinda new to flixster.com but I have actually been using my facebook account to do all this for about a year now. Figured it was time to make the switch. This site looks way more fun then the limited options on facebook. It's gonna be a lot of cut and paste going on though lol!
If you like similar movies don't hesitate to TALK TO ME!!! (Yes, that means if we score high on MCT I'll be happy to chat haha!) Yo I love meeting people with my taste in movies!! I'm actually trying to go into professional film critique at some point. But yeah, just hit me back!! |

Wow, I applaud anyone who sat through this whole movie...yikes...I want that 40 minutes of my life back. OK special effects...horrible everything else.
There Will Be Blood
R
Great movie! Oh man so many elements to consider. The only gripes I have with it were that the music tended to be a bit overbearing in some scenes (sometimes I was just like wow...okay we get it), it felt like there was so much more that could've been included (or maybe it's just that the movie leaves you wanting MORE), and the ending was a bit off-putting just because the movie builds so well you expect a more amazing payoff and you get something that is way more polarizing than it probably should be (well who knows maybe that was PT Anderson's intention anyway). But just about every other element of this film was spot on. One word to describe Daniel Day-Lewis though....PHENOMENAL! So much more to say but I think I've mentioned the important stuff...there was some very sadistic humor being hinted at in this film...quite the memorable little film this one is...
Mr. & Mrs. Smith
PG-13
Just pure awesomeness!!! I could go on for about an hour about how cool this movie was...don't worry I'm not going to. Let's just say it's one of the slickest movies I've ever seen.
War of the Worlds
PG-13
I specifically remember sitting in the movie theater and going "HOLY S***!" every 15 seconds during the action scenes. Any movie that can make me do that deserves 4 stars in my book. Entertainment level is off the charts with this one, even if it's not that memorable in retrospect.
The Descent
R
This movie defies several of the most terrible normalities of modern horror movies. Even when it uses "gotcha" scares it doesn't come off terribly because they are well-placed. With wonderful acting, cinematography, and music, this movie taps into our natural fears of claustrophobia, darkness, and the unknown. It has GREAT acting from all of the female leads, I can't stress enough how refreshing that is to see in a horror movie these days. And oh my goodness...CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT! What? In a horror movie?....NO WAY! A horror movie were you actually care about the characters. For proving that horror movies can be taken seriously (not to mention scaring the hell out of me)...it is one of my favorites.
Best horror movie of recent memory...an actual plot, amazing level of "believable" tension, and just about everything a good MOVIE should be (not just a good horror movie). ALL horror movie fans should see this movie! It is a good movie in general though, so if you're not afraid of horror movies, see it too.
Blade - Trinity
Unrated
Wow probably the worst of the Blade trilogy, but the injection of Ryan Reynolds and Jessica Biel breathed much necessary life into the series, too bad they couldn't help the plot...

Pan's Labyrinth (El Laberinto del Fauno)
R
Hands down...one of the best movies I have ever seen. This movie does everything right, it's the perfect combination of fantasy, horror, and drama. Top notch acting, well developed story, and amazingly talented leading young lady. Combine all this and you get truly what all fantasy/horror/drama movies should aspire to be. Simply brilliant!
2.
The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King
PG-13
Best of the series, wonderful way to end might I add! This is how all modern fantasy trilogies should aspire to end (aka the opposite of Spiderman and Pirates).
4.
Kill Bill, Volume 2
R
So wonderful it's hard to describe...movies of this type being excellent are soo few and far between...okay maybe I can't name another movie exactly of this type...wait KILL BILL VOL. 1! This movie improves on Vol. 1 in every way possible. Weird since it was originally 1 movie...
5.
Kill Bill, Volume 1
R
The pure insanity of this movie is what makes it so good...it's unrelentless action AND (somehow!) it still manages to have a good story in there...FREAKIN' AMAZING!
6.
Children of Men
R
Beautiful..beautiful movie! Watch this...most thought provoking movie of recent memory.

27 Dresses
by GaryCheesy, girly and very sickly sweet. As romantic comedies go, it's nothing special and seems to drag a bit at times. The laughs are scarce and while there are lots of beautiful people to look at, it never truly engaged me (no pun intended). Heigl is gorgeous and really does show some glimmers of a natural, fresh and thoroughly delightful comedic talent. And even she couldn't stop me feeling ever so slightly nauseous throughout. So cute and fluffy, it was bound to be less than substantial. Absolute chick flick and guys.... you have been warned.
Well, you get what you expect. Anyone with at least one testicle might have a hard time tolerating this. Even MY wife thought it was too girly. Nuff said!

The Golden Compass
by GaryWhat's going on?!?!? Seriously! Since LOTR, these fantasy rip offs have been spawned pretty regularly and this one won 'Best Visual Effects'? Okay, there are lots of effects and it shows. Looks nice, but sadly, that's at the expense of story, character development, acting and well .... almost anything interesting. Dakota Blue Richards was great in the lead and the bears were nice to look at, but one of my favorite genres is slowly being killed by vague adaptations of only moderately memorable novels. Sorry, it looks nice, but that's all.
I should probably start a conversation on this (since I feel a bit strongly about it), but why did this win 'Best Visual Effects'?
'Pirates 3' and 'Transformers' were equally impressive, and they had something that resembled a story!
Looks nice, but in my humble opinion, the best effects are those you don't notice. These effects scream "Give Me An Award!!!".posted 1 day ago -
Dude I know this year so far as kind of sucks but we have more then enough coming up to make up for it. In the summer alone we have Pineapple Express, Hellboy 2, Tropic Thunder, Hamlet 2, Hancock, Wall-E, Wanted and my personally must see of 2008 The Dark Knight. Plus new Eastwood, Coen Brothers, Bond, The guy who get You Can Count on Me and Charlie Kaufman's directorial debut. The way I look at it we can forgive the first part of the film going season since we have so much coming up.

Well what I think you may like though they may be hard to find now. Try Snow Angels, In Burges, Be Kind Rewind and Stop-Loss from 2008. I'm seeing Speed Racer tonight so I'll let you know what I think but as far as I'm concerned the movie going season just started with Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

Equilibrium
by DavidThis movie in many, many ways surpasses the original Matrix in my eyes. But Overall, I think it was missing the quotability of the Matrix. Also some of the characters in this film were more cardboard than necessary.
In the end, everything was top shelf and I reccommend this movie to everybody!I noticed you hadn't seen this.... WHAT THE DILLY!?

I Am Legend
by GaryWent into this one a little cold. Managed to avoid spoilers and had only a little knowledge of the book, or Hestons 'Omega Man' as prior knowledge and I absolutely loved this one. The first two thirds are incredible. Will Smith builds tension and sympathy for his character, and the action scenes are pretty damned amazing. Some questionable CGI aside, the overall atmosphere was simply intense. The third act fell a bit short and had a rather awkward ending, but the thrills far outweighed a few minor flaws. Maybe going in cold is a bonus sometimes. (Just a thought).
Yeah, I know I'm probably the last to catch this, but here's my 5 cents worth.
Don't bother replying if you disagree, the beauty of film is that it's subjective.
And if you haven't seen it yet... run to the DVD store!posted 3 days ago -

Thanks man, I've been more or less raised on movies for most of my life. (Some of my greatest moments involve me stealing R rated films from my dad.) I'm actually taking a course in film right now hoping that when I'm older I can get into directing.
