| A Clockwork Orange - R |
I liked... 1. The language and the way Malcom McDowell wields it. 2. The music--both the brooding electronica and the not right, but oh-so-right classical selections 3. Several shots/scenes: exercise in the prison yard, the comparison of the arrivals at the author's house, the fill-in-the-word-bubble scene. I didn't like... 1. How, unlike other Kubrick pictures, it lacked significant layers of meaning. 2. How, like other Kubrick pictures, it was technically masterful, but emotionally cold. |

| Breathless (À bout de souffle) (By a Tether) - Unrated | If you don't like this movie, then get stuffed! | January 4, 2010 | N/A | |||
| Memento - R | January 4, 2010 | N/A | ||||
| The Red Shoes - R | I've often pointed out how Singin' in the Rain, another dance movie is not really all that cinematic, and people respond by saying that too many cuts and effects would only take away from the performances. As a counter-argument, I offer the middle half-hour of this movie. | January 4, 2010 | N/A | |||
| A Mighty Wind - PG-13 | One thing I love about Christopher Guest's movies is that while he is being satirical of his subject (whether it's folk singers, canine enthusiasts, etc.), he always shows an affection for it as well. That blend is never more apparent than this movie. Yes, the principal characters worship color and take special care to shorten the "ing" suffix. But "There's a Kiss at the End of the Rainbow," in all its trite cheesiness, is one of the more beautiful songs I've ever heard. | January 4, 2010 | N/A | |||
| Touch of Evil - PG-13 | Blows Citizen Kane out of the water. | January 4, 2010 | N/A | |||
| L' Argent de Poche (Pocket Money) (Small Change) - PG | I could watch an entire feature of that little Gregory kid. But not if he keeps falling out of windows. That was not funny. | January 4, 2010 | N/A | |||
| Being There - PG | January 4, 2010 | N/A | ||||
| Rashômon (Rashomon) (In the Woods) - Unrated | January 4, 2010 | N/A | ||||
| Ratatouille - G | Pixar put it down. The animation was thrilling. And I almost cried once. | January 4, 2010 | N/A | |||
| Chinatown - R | Great movie on every level. One of the best real mystery movies I've seen in awhile. Mysterious caller: "Are you alone?" Jake Gittes: "Isn't everybody?" Touche, Jake...touche. | January 4, 2010 | N/A | |||
| Du Rififi Chez les Hommes (Rififi) - Unrated | An instant favorite. | January 4, 2010 | N/A | |||
| Barton Fink - R | The (with a long e) most scathing critique of big time Hollywood I've ever seen. Not only is it crooked and corny as other movies have suggested, but it kills. Also some of the most refreshing dialogue I've heard in a long time. | January 4, 2010 | N/A | |||
| Cidade de Deus (City of God) - R | January 4, 2010 | N/A | ||||
| Repulsion - Unrated | I wouldn't say I enjoyed this movie, but I was strangely fascinated by it and I'd love to see it again. I'm sorta like Carol, putting on my lipstick. | January 4, 2010 | N/A | |||
| Zodiac - R | More a study of how the law and the press interact than a murder mystery. The dialogue is often hilarious, and the character's journeys are fascinating. My friends complained that it started out so compelling and then reallly lost steam. But then that's how the actual case was too, wasn't it? | January 4, 2010 | N/A | |||
| La Règle du Jeu (The Rules of the Game) - Unrated | I'm shocked at how few people on this site have seen this movie. Makes me really sad. See it, but call me before you do because I want to watch it again. | January 4, 2010 | N/A | |||
| Disney's Aladdin - G | Most underrated line: "Another suitor for the princess. " That guy is FUNNY. | January 4, 2010 | N/A | |||
| Apocalypse Now - R | As "The horror..." echoed in my brain, I thought to my self, "I'm going to have to watch this again." I dread it/can't wait. | January 4, 2010 | N/A | |||
| Le Mépris (Contempt) - Unrated | Is it possible for one human being to understand another human being? Can we communicate successfully? Well this film sure can. Watch it if you want to learn about life, love, humanity, making movies, etc...etc. | January 4, 2010 | N/A | |||
| Bottle Rocket - R | I'm still chuckling. Hmhaha. | January 4, 2010 | N/A | |||
| Blade Runner - R | Frankenstein. In the future. With Harrison Ford. Classic. | January 4, 2010 | N/A | |||
| Catch Me If You Can - PG-13 | January 4, 2010 | N/A |
