He Was A Quiet Man
by scotta interesting role for slater as a unhappy enployee, on verge of going postal and killing his co workers, is beaten to it by another, and turns uot becoming a hero, by killing the guy, an falls for a worker, paralised from attack, while getting the atention and work credit he finaly deserves, but is this life ment to happen, slater goes old and balding in his role, but is still slater reconisable, but interesting take on office politics, and the stress some people have, watching it you realise, hes inocent man caught up in a new lease of life, as things could have turned so much worse for him, fine support to from william h macy, a nice direction, and nice pace

The Cat's Meow
by scotteddie izzard is great in a very diferent performance to downey junior as chaplin, here depicyting events, where alegedly chaplin was present on a boat cruise, when a murder took place and his involvment in events, and his involvment with a scarlett played by kirstin dunst, at her best, izzard portrays chaplin, the side you dont see, the very private side, and comes off very well, a engsageing story, some great acting moments for everyone involved

Dazed and Confused
by scottmathew mcConaughey, ben afleck, adam goldberg, parker posey, milla jovovich, are seen in very early roles here, showcasing there talent at a younger age, in richard linkleters love letter to 1970s austin texas, and a look at the last day of high chool, and eventual night full of partying that will go on, we follow the young freshmans atempts to stop from getting hit with a bat, by the older students, a tradion that goes on, there various atempts at escape and eventual capture is boh funny and cruel to watch, and the older guys and girls as they parade around the town just chilling and hanging out, looking for the next party or musing over there future, all charactors weave in and out of each others lives during the night, and is fun keeping up with storys, the time period looks great, and soundtrack is superb, of all the up and comers in film, rory cochrane was great as his stoner charactor, high all the time, and saying some mad things, and very iconic in his long hair and hat, afleck as bully looking for kidsto hit is also superb, playing a arsevhole wery well, and mcconaughey playing a much older wannabe high school drop out football player reliving his youth shows he can pull something off when hes not doing the stuff hes now doing, you could argue this is similer to george lucas,s american graffity, but manages to be quite diferent, with before sunrise this is linkleters best film, and a film perhaps because of setting asent aged since its 1993, release

Melinda and Melinda
by scotta nice return to form from woody allen during this decade, seeing a story from two viewpoints, comedy and drama, and how diferent they would turn out, structured so its going back and forth between the two, great performance from radha mitchell in the lead, as the love interest for the men in story, and especially will ferrell doing a restrained comedy performance, coming off rather well, and showing, even though hes great at his outlandish comedy, like jim carrey hes capable of much more, allen doesent add anything new to his vast amount of films but certainly created a good entry to his films, and certainly up there

Phone Booth
by scottgreat concept, and pulled off great, farrell as a cocky newyorker forced to pour out his emotions and admit to some short comings in his daily life when a sniper has him stuck while talking on the phone, iven certain basic tasks, and having to deal with arogant and pissed off passer buys along the way, very stylishly shot by shumacher, great use of screens popping up, showing other angles and so on, farrell is superb in his role, perfectly capturing a man under pressure, a very brisk running time, and doesent out stay its welcome,

The Ox-Bow Incident
by scotta diferent kinda western here, judge and jury, as some men get acused of killing a rancher, and the trial is done on the spot, and if guilty they will be hanged in the morning, are they guilty or inocent, it will never be certain, but justice must be served, henry fonda is great as always in a great drama, wetern, and reminds me a lot of fonds other film, 12 angry men, he is superb to watch,

Paths of Glory
by scottgreat kubrick filmdealing with a true incident in world war 1 involving french soldiors who refused to go charge to there deaths when ordered, and there eventual trial by french goverment, and kurk douglas as sergent defending them, very controvershal for france and was banned for many years, great direction showing typical kubrick tricks, the war scenes look terrific, and photoghraphy as usual top form, possible conteder best film of the 50s with twelve angry men, and my second fav kubrick after dr strangelove

I recommend you see...farrell, mcgregor, woody allen
Cassandra's Dream
by scottwoody allen does hs 3rd in the so called london trilogi, another dark piece of british class at work and play, this could simply be a woody allen screenplay transplanted from newyork to london, but being british set is adding grittyness to it that maybe allen wouldent look for in newyork, and the casting of farrell and mcgregor is a masterstroke, a joy to watch from beginning to end as the two brothers of the story, loosing there celtic acents for english ones they do a terific job, mcgregor coming out on top a little bit more, and very enthusiastic andplaying a go for it guy, while farrell, playing a brooding other half, a nice look at two brothers getting involved with a murder hit, when a little money troubles come there way, and looking at them thinking, should they be doing this, the two actors work very well together, and chemistry is brilliant, allen also making good use of fine english actors in minor roles, considering allen is finding financing closer to the u.k, maybe this is where his heart is at moment, and after the terrific matchpoint and to a lesser extent scoop, and now this, its not a bad trhing

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
by scotta enjoyable adition to the series, if not a classic, but certainly up there with temple of doom, but also capturing the spirit of raiders and last crusade, both in humour, companionship, and action set pieces, yes ford does look old now, and certainly showing his age, bt when in action, that disapears, a engageing story, and involving a theme i always hoped they would do, aliens, a masive part of the story, and for me that does work, why cant indy be involved with aliens, some good moments throughout, the beginning in area 51, and a nuclear blast, is both stunning and eery at same time, spielberg doing good stuff there, and of course action set pieces, that follow the other films style, especially moving vehicles, some annoying points throuout also, shia la beouf swinging through the air, and some annoying moments with animals, and especially opening riff on paramount logo, annoying compared to other films atempts, but good out weigh the bad, and on some great in jokes at original trilogis expence, which are great, so on this evidence, id like to see more of dr jones

What About Bob?
by scotta great vehicle for bill murrey, and dreyfuss, as dr and patient, but when dreyfuss as his doctor goes on holiday, murrey as patient follows him to his summer home, and gets in tight with his family, and a war of nerves begins, dreyfuss really hates the guy in this, and murrey just makes things worse. some marvellous comic moments, dreyfuss using his rage to great afect, and murrey using dumbness to great afect, and put two together and comedy gold is struck, not a great story n show, and maybe a tad long, but these two really make it watchable

I recommend you see...george lucas was a great director,
American Graffiti
by scottbefore starwars george lucas directed thx 1138 and thi sslice of nostalgia, showing lucas with great potential as a director, a young ron howard, and richard dreyfuss are high school kids on there last night before they al go off on there seperate ways, a night on the town, in 1960s california. lucas shoots with a great eye for that time period, a car enthusiast from a young age comes across in this fim, as they spend there time cruzing the town, great soundtrack too, many classics, the story is fun, and is a joy, lots of laughs and serious moments, watch out too for harrison ford in a great supporting role, driving round in his vintage car, really looks like hes prepring for his stint behind wheel of millenium falcon, a classic film from the 70s, and proves maybe lucas does have more to him than starwars, and could direct some decent material
