Once Upon a Time in the West (1969, PG-13)
Not just one of the best Westerns ever made, but one of the greatest films ever made, period. Everything about this film is amazing. Outstanding performances by Henry Fonda, Claudia Cardinale, Charles Bronson and Jason Robards. Beautiful scenery, an amazing score, great story, well built tension. Just an amzing movie. Highly Recommended. |

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974, R)
Endlessly imitated, never duplicated. The concept is simple - five teenagers driving through rural Texas happen upon a deranged, psychotic family - yet it is one of the most frightening movies I have ever seen. By today's standards, there is very little gore. But what makes this film so powerful is the dark atmosphere and the fear of the unknown. Everything is not spelled out to you, so much is left to the imagination. Mounting suspense and paranoia overcome the viewer slowly, letting your imagination run wild. Simply one of the greatest horror movies of all time. And I would say one of the greatest movies of all time, period. |

The Mist (2007, R)
Everything that director Frank Darabont touches that comes from Stephen King turns to gold! It is rare to find a good entertaining horror movie with a great story, great acting, great character development (you know, so you actually care about what happens to people when danger lurks... what a concept!), great pacing, and is genuinely creepy. You'll get that all here, as well as what has got to be one of the most shocking endings in movie history. An amazing movie that I would highly recommend. Whereas one of Darabont's other King adaptations, The Shawshank Redemption, is about hope, this is more about hopelessness, so it may not be for everyone. |

Unforgiven (1992, R)
One of Eastwood's best movies, and probably his best western. Good story, complex characters. There really are no heroes or villains in this movie. You could probably find a way to relate to the thinking of just about every character in this movie. What you have is Eastwood as the protagonist, and antagonist Gene Hackman as the hard-nosed sherriff, who is probably more morally right than Eastwood's "reformed" killer character. Eastwood and Hackman put in amazing performances, with great performances also by Morgan Freeman and Richard Harris. |

The Dark Knight (2008, PG-13)
One of the two greatest comic book movies ever made, with only Batman Begins being in it's league. Batman Begins may be a better movie overall, as there were actually a few things I didn't care for in this. The biggest things being that Two-Face's burnt face didn't look very realistic, and I thought that by the time Harvey Dent morphed into Two-Face late in the movie they rushed his character a little too fast for my taste. They also seemed to be reaching for a reason to have Morgan Freeman's character as Lucious Fox in the movie. Many of his scenes seemed unnecessary (can't believe I just wrote that about Morgan Freeman), and that seemed to throw the pacing off in a few spots in the movie. Other than those minor gripes, the movie was outstanding, with outstanding performances by everyone involved, especially the performance of Heath Ledger as The Joker. This was one of the most amazing performances I have ever seen in a movie, period, and had he not passed I really believe this would have shot him into superstardom. The movie was very dark and haunting, and is one of the best comic book, action and crime drama movies ever made. Highly recommended, especially for Ledger's performance, to which I can't give enough praise. You have to see it to believe how good he is. |

Batman Begins (2005, PG-13)
When this came out, it was beyond a doubt the best comic book movie I had ever seen. Christian Bale is by far the best Batman there has ever been. The movie had an awesome script, awesome directing, great pacing, and outstanding performances by all actors involved. The only gripe I have with the entire movie is a train scene towards the end that seemed a little too convoluted for my taste. Other than that the movie is almost flawless. Great action and drama. If you haven't seen it yet, you should. |

Taxi Driver (1976, R)
Robert De Niro gives an amazing performance as Travis Bickle, an ex-marine who is mentally unstable taxi driver who is an insomniac, is lonely, lacks social skills and hates the world he lives in. That world happens to be the underbelly of New York City in the 1970s, full of pimps, drug pushers, killers and other scum. This is the story of a man that finally just snaps. Includes a great performance also by a very young Jodie Foster as a teenage prostitute. A classic from director Martin Scorsese. Highly recommended. |

American Gangster (2007, R)
Outstanding performances by both Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe. This was a great crime/mob drama, with overall great performances, well written story and well developed characters. Almost every character in this movie was well developed, which in this day and age is a rarity. Highly recommended. |
