mash is one of those movies that flew under the radar. during the time it was filmed tora,tora,tora and patton were being filmed. so the studio exec's focused on them.so because of this altman made a risque , realistic, comical, crazy , dirty(as in the way the soldiers werent always sparkling clean all the time like in most war films that pre date this)film. when it was released became an instant smash . also was made into a hit t.v. show. ahead of its time, and simply classic.

yes, patton loved war. patton slapped around a soldier or two, patton believed he fought in wars from the past . patton was different. but patton was also one hell of a general and this is one hell of a movie.
