My Sister's Keeper
PG-13
The book this movie is based on is one of my favourite books, & while the movie itself is fairly good, somehow it just doesn't pack anywhere near the same punch that the book did.
The ending (and a lot of the rest of the movie) had too much of a 'Hollywood heartbreaking but inspiring' feel about it. I felt it would have been improved by sticking to the original material a bit more, especially in regards to the ending. The movie ending managed to make me feel as though a lot of the rest of the journey had been a little meaningless.
Despite the movies flaws, it's still getting a fairly high rating from me, purely because there were still tears from me for a great amount of the movie, and anything that manages to pull the heartstrings that much still has to be doing something right.
Stranger Than Fiction
PG-13
What could have been in interesting idea never managed to sell me that it was telling me an interesting story. I think it had to do with the lack of charm in the main character, a flaw that can't be entirely attributed to the actor, because at some stages he managed to pull off some lines that I was suprised were able to be said non-cheesily. Also I somehow never bought the chemistry with the main characters.
Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson get the most intriguing characters of the bunch and I wish they'd gotten much more screen time.
