The Hangover - R Anytime you wake up in a hotel hungover with chickens chirping around and a tiger in the bathroom, there might be a problem. The movie is one of the funniest movies in the last year, and it deserves all the hype. It was an "A" all the way to the end, and then the end credits, puts it up to an "A+". haha, Ed Helms is a funny, funny man. October 17, 2009

Ip Man (Yip Man) - Unrated Wait? Another movie about a Chinese Kung-fu master kicking ass during the Sino-Japanese war? Another hero that goes from riches to rags? It does seem so, while this might be seen as a carbon copy of 2006's Fearless, the movie does excel in similar ways too: the choreography and the lead character (Donnie Yen). I'm giving it an extra star because I used to practice Wing Tsun, and it's always nice to see wooden dummy techniques on the screen again. Too bad it makes the Chinese folks hate the Japanese folks again, reigniting old wounds. October 17, 2009

Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus - R Bad, bad, and more bad. Just not enough shark vs. octopus scenes, and damn Deborah Gibson makes a come back? Still fun to watch, but by no means a rental. October 8, 2009

City of Ember - PG Actually a lot better than I thought it would be. It seems to do the thing that most good sci-fi movies do: take you away from your state of mind and put your conscience in their hands. I enjoyed their system of government and the sense of adventure through it all. It's definitely a great movie to show kids with lots of imagination. I imagine a decent sequel but with its disastrous sales, it's hard to tell. October 4, 2009

Fast and Furious - PG-13 These movies were always about the cars and the girls, so why try to change it by adding more plot than needed? The fourth installment in the F&F franchise and I thought it would be a blockbuster with the return of Diesel and Walker. Nope, it's a snooze fest for anyone over 25. I was happy with the appearance of the Subaru WRX and the races in the tunnels, but not much else. October 4, 2009

Observe and Report - R Mildly entertaining and I found myself frustrated with the characters at most times. I came into the movie wanting to laugh, but I felt more sad and disturbed at it instead. The funniest parts were not what they showed in the previews but instead the soft touches like the scenes with the Chinese twins and silly date that Anna Faris scene. I really don't think this one would be missed by anyone. October 4, 2009

Inglourious Basterds - R For the first time, I felt what others have felt about Tarantino movies in the past. It was over-the-top with violence, slow, and sprinkled with witty dialogue. I found myself a bit irked by the theatre scene. I wasn't sure if I should be enjoying the massacre of Nazi's or not. Tarantino usually has a guilty way of making you an accomplice in his agendas. I loved the captain though, and some of the dialogue was really sharp. It was nice to see Diane Kruger again, but all in all, I could have waited for the DVD.
Incidentally, I heard that the U.S. release was an abridged version of the actual 4 hour director's cut that they shown at the film festivals.

Push - PG-13 Wow, I would love to see the auditions for the Chinese "Bleeders". If you can get over these crazy screaming Chinese guys, I think the movie was enjoyable. It's a cross between the TV show Heroes and X-men. People with special powers being chased by a unclassified government group? Not that original, but still a fun movie to see. The restaurant scene was awesome and it's always nice to see shots of Hong Kong again. October 4, 2009

The Fountain - PG-13 so much more than just a movie about a man who's in love with a tree, locked in space travelling in a bubble. The images and music stay in my mind for days to come, and I'm sure I will revisit it another time someday. July 3, 2009

Up - PG The first 30 minutes are really good. Then we get ourselves situated with Carl Fredrickson's character and it becomes less magnificent as what everyone says it is. True, Pixar has done it again, but not on the same level as the Wall-E or the Incredibles. June 25, 2009

The International - R Amazingly well-paced with a great shooting scene in the middle. I have to say this is a gem of an action movie packed with memorable and dialogue that stands out in the film and on paper. June 25, 2009

Hancock - PG-13 This first hour makes up for the weak ending. It also proves that Will Smith can make any movie a moneymaker. June 8, 2009

A Knight's Tale - PG-13 How come this movie is always on when you're in a hotel on vacation? All in all, you will end up watching it while you're recovering from your night out. June 8, 2009

Step Brothers - R Ultimately, I laughed. It's a social critique on stay-at-home men, but I really did laugh. People will not get their money's worth at the theaters, but for a movie at the house, it was not that bad. June 8, 2009
