I am an independent filmmaker. I try and get some of the noise out of my head and onto a screen so others can see what I see when I daydream or am lost in thought.
I enjoy all types of films and love to talk about them to whoever will listen. If you want to hear more of my thoughts about movies and the whole business of making them then you can check out my podcast, Film in Focus, on iTunes. Also check out the website at http://sfpros.podzone.net. I'm stealing an idea from a friend and defining what the star system ratings mean. Here is how my ratings work: 1/2 star - One of the worst films ever. If you see this then it's as good as dead to me. 1 star - Terrible. Not worth watching once. 1 1/2 stars - Really bad with maybe a scene or two that was good. 2 stars - A weak movie but maybe watchable if you are at a friends house and they are watching it. 2 1/2 stars - Not strong but worth watching on tv. 3 stars - A good movie that is worth renting. 3 1/2 stars - A very good movie that I suggest you see in the near future. 4 stars - Excellent! These are the good ones folks, check them out. 4 1/2 stars - A great movie that is few and far between. You should just buy this flick and thank me later. 5 stars - The Masterpiece. Buy it and call it a favorite right now because this is a rare gem worth owning and telling people about as soon as you can. |

Traitor
PG-13
A good movie about terrorism and the lengths some will go to to fight for what they believe is right.
Cheadle is, as usual, perfect in the role and it's interesting to see him go through all the emotion that he has to deal with in the flick. A lot of the other actors stand out as well in this movies that plays like a Bourne movie with aspects of The Departed.
A solid ending was given but there were a few parts were the movie slowed a little and had me checking my watch...
Burn After Reading
R
A very funny movie about a group of selfish dummies who get over their head in what they think is a classic case of espionage.
All the actors in the flick come out swinging and each character is filled with enough weird traits and flaws to make your head spin.
There are some great funny lines and fun editing.
Lakeview Terrace
PG-13
While it is a pretty basic movie with the most basic of characters at times, I found this to be a good moody watch. The small world of this cul de sac works well in telling a story about a man who needs to be in control of his domain.
Jackson is excellent as the cop neighbor who pushes the limits in trying to get a couple to leave the house they just bought next door.
Primer
PG-13
As soon as I figure out what was going on at the end of this movie I figure I will bump up the score.
I recommend this one for folks who are into time travel and movies that really make you think.
Knight Rider 2010
Unrated
Bad acting and poor production value. It's only saved by some interesting plot ideas. That is all.
The Hammer
R
The movie is very predictable but there is so much heart in the thing that you don't really care and you just enjoy the ride.
Carolla is funny as the carpenter turned boxer and I would watch any other movie he makes without question.

Rear Window
PG
This is an awesome movie that follows a man stuck in his home from a broken leg who watches the world that unfolds around his apartment courtyard. We get to watch this world as well from the protection of his window and we are able to spy on little pieces of these peoples lives and even see what may be a murder take place. The mood of the film weighs heavy as we too are trapped in the apartment. Hitchcock makes the story flow and the characters come alive even though they are just people in windows.

Stand by Me
R
This is one of the best movies to me because when I watch it I remember the feelings I had when with my friends as a kid. I know what it's like to go out into the wild for camping trips with my buddies and the fact that our parents knew nothing of it was exciting. This flick brings all those emotions out in me and that is what a good movie should do. It should touch the person watching it in a personal way. Most of them just entertain. The young actors in this flick pull off a range of emotions and they do it well. The story is compelling and the music sets the mood just right. Based off of a novella by Stephen King we see that the guy can do more than just write horror movies. He can create characters that can be as real as the friend you had when you were twelve.

Somewhere in Time
PG
This is one of my favorite movies. The acting is great and the story is compelling. It has a time travel element to it that made me watch it for the first time and I thought it was a very original way to pull of that aspect. The rest is a love story that is very sweet. I recommend this one to everyone with the warning to the guys that this is a chick flick.

The Shawshank Redemption
R
Great flick. It's a story be Stephen King that was perfectly executed on the screen. The acting is right on and the sets pulled you into the movie. I could watch this one over and over.

Superman
PG
This is the origin of the man of steel based on the silver age comics history. Our hero comes to earth and becomes a hero while fighting Lex Luthor. Excellent acting and some great flying scenes. I like how they took the time to tell the story. Usually the origin is rushed in many of these films but this one takes the time to flesh out the story of the man behind the cape. This vision is a little out of date in some parts of the story but it was made during a different time in the comics and might not be what people today see as Superman. I look past that and see a pretty good version of that time periods Superman. Christopher Reeve pulled off the role perfectly and became and icon himself. He was powerful and kind and truthful and in the long run proved that he didn't need the super powers to be a super man. This is a clean and entertaining movie and it holds up to the ages as being a good story in and of itself.

Memento
R
This is a movie that is different than all others I had seen. The editing choice in this one sets up a strange movie. I liked the different way of telling the story. Very fresh. Acting was great and the cast fit their roles perfectly. This is one that will have you talking about it after watching it.

what did you think about the research that went into that popular movie quiz. i thought the formula was fascinating. i wonder how dark knight would figure in since they hadnt done that with any film since 2004.
