Wonderful performances by both Nicolas Cage and in particular Penelope Cruz, about a Greek Woman who falls in love with an Italian soldier who's part of the occupation force in her village. He is a Captain who trains his troups to sing as he plays his mandolin. She falls for him but is already engaged to a man from her village. Lovely story.
Most amazing that this brilliant forward thinking film was made 90 years ago. Director Fritz Lang brings a film about the classes of society where the rich live above ground in a luxurious Metropolis and the workers live below ground where they toil 10 hrs of each day to keep the machines running that control the city. This is a classic of silent films and many consider it a masterpiece. It truly is a visionary piece of work.
This old (45 yrs) low budget B movie is actuallly VERY well directed and the psychological horror story it's telling is very good. Though it is low budget with poor sound quality and fair acting from some of the characters at best, the direction and camera work and story itself brings much discussion to the table after viewing this b/w film that is surely a classic of it's genre and time.
I saw this when it came out and recently watched it again on DVD and enjoyed it more the second time around. Sweet coming of age story with some tears at the end; about a young woman (played by Leelee Sobieski) in a small town in Massachusetts with a long time boyfriend (Josh Hartnett) who's life changes the day a preppy rich boy (Chris Klein) lands in town (and drives his car through her parents diner). Nothing profound here, but a sweet endearing story.
Wonderful screenplay of Michael Noonan's novel about 4 orphan boys all born in December given a holiday by the sea by a benefactor of the orphange. This is beautifully filmed and well acted and champions the spirit and brotherhood of friendships.
Silly over-aged frat boy fun about 4 men out for a weekend in Vegas bachelor party that goes much too far to the point of them losing the groom. This takes a while to set up but once it does the laughs come one after the other. Far from a perfect comedy, still it's enjoyable in it's raunch-a-rama genre way.
A low budget yet sweet sentimental film about a young Christian woman in the 1950s who's faith is tested through the various tragedies in her life. It is shown in retrospect as she (Cheryl Ladd) tells her story to her grandaughter. The make up to age Ladd is very poorly done, however over all this is an enjoyable little movie
