My Favorite Movies

  1. Tainja
  2. Jessica

My favorite movies got one thing in common: Strong character personalities.
I need to feel connected to the people I watch in the movies.............. oh yeah, and then there's the movies that are so bad they are hilarious!

  Tainja's Rating My Rating
1
The Fly (1986,  R)
The Fly
I was too scared to watch this movie when I was younger, I used to be extremely afraid of scary movies, but after getting used to them, I could finally watch this.

Truly a fantastic movie. The story was awesome and I thought Geena Davis was great!
I thought the ending was the best way to end this movie.
You really feel sorry for Seth Brundle and I really felt like crying at times. ;_;

***SPOILER WARNING***

What I love most about this movie, it's in the end when Seth realizes he isn't going to be human anymore, he becomes so desperate to become human he even sacrifices his love and their unborn baby.
That is pure desperation of a man who is loosing his life and it's just not something you see a "good" character do.

I also love how the "bad guy", Veronicas ex boyfriend, Stathis Borans (who is the jealous, seriousy annoying guy) steps up in the end to save her.
If this would have been the regular Hollywood ending (ala Fly 2), you'd know that Seth would have switched DNA with the "bad guy" and become human again.
Instead, Stathis saves Veronica and her unborn babys life.

The ending is still so sad. ;_;
Oh god, I get so sad when Seth is merged together with parts of the broken telepod.
When the music plays dramatically and it says "Fusion of Brundlefly and telepod successful", that leaves such a big lump in my throat.
When he crawls out in agonazing pain, unable to talk anymore, he crawls over to Veronica and puts the end of the gun against his head, moaning in pain, begging her to end his life. ;_;

Ironically, I was watching this movie because I was irritated with Jeff Goldblum from watching Jurassic Park 2, I wanted to see him in agony.
I could never imagine being this sad instead. ;_;

I can understand why Jeff Goldblum didn't get an Oscar for his acting in the movie. I thought he was dull when "normal", it is only when he slowly transforms his acting is shining.

I also thought the movie worked as a love story, though it's not so much screentime for the love, because you can instantly see what Veronica likes about Seth that she dosen't like about Stathis.
Seth is a goof, he is funny and just an overall fun guy to be with.
Stathis is very serious all the time and waltzes into Veronicas apartment and takes a shower, so yeah, I kinda get why she broke up with him.
He wasn't that awful of a person per se, he was the one helping Veronica make all the decisions when she was crying and frustrated, but i can see how she and him wouldn't work as a couple.
2
Man on the Moon (1999,  R)
Man on the Moon
Very entertaining movie about Andy Kaufman, Andy is very hard to say really what was "wrong" with him, I guess you will never know. The acting was fantastic! Jim Carey nails Andy Kaufman perfectly, if you watch real performances by Andy Kaufman it's very hard to tell them apart. I also like how the movie begins, it always makes me laugh.
3
Jurassic Park (1993,  PG-13)
Jurassic Park
I remember watching this movie in the cinema when I was little, and it's no surprise it became so popular.
I remember all the toys, games and books you could buy. It was funny in a way, because I bought a sticker book and it had the instructions on how to create a dinosaur. "Don't try this at home!"
Lol!

The effects are truly amazing for its time, the dinosaurs looks so real they could be standing next to you. Even now this movie looks so much better than a lot of movies that are getting made today. (the effects make Scifi originals cry)

***SPOILER WARNING****

I do think the movie, even though I gave it a perfect score, has some issues.
The script is at times VERY annoying and very "family movie", which ruins the suspension.
Every suspensionscene seems to end with somebody saying "i told you so" or the scene where Tim and Alan almost gets crushed by a car they escaped from in a tree, the car lands over them and Tim, who was seconds ago ill and scared, says "Well, at least we're out of the tree".
Off course the movie is different from the book, the book being much more serious and the death scenes being more brutal, so I guess the annoying comments were added in to appeal to the children, that the scary scene is over and here's something fun.
4
Ed Wood (1994,  R)
Ed Wood
First time I watched this movie, I found it boring and hard to keep up with. But every day I keep returning to watch this movie again and again, and the more I watch it the more I enjoy it.
The acting is truly one of the best I have ever seen, Martin Landau is PERFECT as Bela Lugosi. Other actors are also outstanding, especially Johnny Depp.
5
The Elephant Man (1980,  PG)
The Elephant Man
The story about one of the most important persons in history. Very touching, excellent acting and the music is beautiful too.

Imagine you are the kindest of person, all you want to do is show your kindness and love to other people. But everybody is disgusted by you, they hate you. Why? Because you look like a monster...
That is the life of Joseph (incorrectly called John in the movie), until he meets Dr Treves who tries his best to give him a decent life.

I always get so upset watching this movie and see what people do to Joseph, happy for him once he gets accepted and I still believe he did not try commit suicide, I believe he wanted to try to sleep like a normal person, then was unable to recover from his dream, which caused him to choke to death. At least I feel a sense of relief knowing he died without being in pain... in which he had spent most of his life being.

Rest in Peace, Joseph, you were truly an angel sent from heaven to earth.
6
Troll 2 (1990,  PG-13)
Troll 2
This movie was so unintentionally funny!
I was laughing so hard, especially this:
"They are eating her... they are going to eat me... oh my GOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!"

This movie is terrible in every way possible, the funniest thing must be that the movie is truly taking itself seriously!!

The mother actor was soooo terrible, she looks like a psychopath and talks like one!
"GO TO BED. I LOVE YOU. GOOD NIGHT."

I was seriously crying and screaming with laughter while watching this, this movie was just SO terrible!

****SPOILER WARNING***

The funniest thing about this movie, besides it tries to be serious, is that the movie is aimed at 13+, but the story seemed more like a Disney movie.
Kid sees dead grandfathers ghost, the ghost tells him to beware of Goblins. Then family moves to a town called... NILBOG.
Hm, hm, hm, what is Nilbog backwards?
Oh my god! It's Goblin!!!
It actually takes a good 20 minutes before the youngest in the family actually discovers this.

The story just gets dumber and dumber, in the town Nilbog lives Goblins that are disguised as humans and they hate meat, so they transform people into vegetables and eats them. XD
The town-meeting seriously made me laugh unstoppably for 5 minutes.
Mayor: We hate meat!
Uninterested towns people: .........yeah...
Mayor: And we hate hot dogs!!!
Uninterested towns people: ...........yuck.
Mayoer: And we hate hamburgers!!!!
Uninterested towns people: ................ew.
I was laughing so much I was laughing through the whole part when things got suspensful (if you can even call it that!)

The plot gets EVEN DUMBER.
There's a witch in town and she transform people into trees. (???!!!)
So she transforms a guy into a tree, so scary. XD
The dumbest thing is that the witch seduces another teenage guy, and while doing it, she tempts him to eat a corn and says "We are going to get hot!"
What do you know, when they get "hot" popcorns starts flying!!

Ending is the stupidest. Grandfathers ghost appears and tells them "The only thing that can defeat Goblins is the power of happiness!", so the family touches a rock and think happy thoughts and the goblins die!!

The masks of the Goblins are ugly, but there is one of them that made me scream and cry with laughter. The son in the family has a nightmare that his family has turned into goblins. The dad and mom has ugly masks... but OH MY GOD!!! The sisters mask is beyond words!!!!
And because of the low-budget, that mask returns several times in the movie.

One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975,  R)
One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest
One of the best acting EVER! This is really not my type of movie, but once I start watching I can't stop!

What I love most about this movie is that you don't get introduced to the patients like "that's him and that's what is wrong with him", insetad, you watch and see them and you learn what is wrong with them. All the characters have their own special personality and they all feel so real, I really feel like I'm sitting beside them in one of their sessions. The acting is just jaw-dropping great, acting mentally instable without looking silly is hard, none of the actors ever look silly in this movie.
8
The Land Before Time (1988,  G)
The Land Before Time
I watched this movie all the time when I was little, I think the poor casette is worn out by now.

This movie ALWAYS makes me cry. ;_;
This movie is so depressing at times it makes me want to reach into the screen and hug Littlefoot.

When I was a kid, I used to be terrified of Sharp Tooth, so when I was little - most of the crying was in fear. XD
This movie is very violent and depressing for being a kids movie, but I still feel that the movie in some way important, because it deals with death in a subtle yet understandable way.
9
Dracula - Dead and Loving It (1995,  PG-13)
Dracula - Dead and Loving It
I love this movie - it's hilarious! I can't even pick a favorite part because it's all so funny!
10
The Last Unicorn (1982,  G)
The Last Unicorn
A very dark movie, I was so scared when I watched this movie when I was little I always cried. Now I'm not so scared anymore, but the movie still gives me the creeps. Amalthea's personality is so sweet, yet she is so brave.
11
Jumanji (1995,  PG)
Jumanji
Cool movie, it has both really good and some bad effects. Good story too.
12
Disney's Aladdin (1992,  G)

The NeverEnding Story (1984,  PG)
The NeverEnding Story
I loved this movie since I was a kid, it's quite scary at times.
16
Beauty and the Beast (1991,  G)
Beauty and the Beast
Beautiful animation and songs, and I just love the personalities of the characters in the movie.

The beast, who is actually a prince, isn't "perfect" like all the other princes in the other movies, they step out like from a dream and instantly love the princess and have no personality what-so-ever.
Beast however is rude, loud, selfish... you name it, he is your worst nightmare.
But Belle's kindness changes him, slowly, but surely. And it's not your average "I'm sorry, let's kiss and make up" stuff, the beast refuses to admit he is wrong, but after a lot of arguing with Belle, he realizes he is. He realizes he gains so much more from being kind. Because he was spoiled as a child, he never learned about kindness. But Belle is persistent and she and the Beast falls in love.

I also like the Belle has personality, unlike the other princesses she isn't shallow, she is smart and she loves to read. And when somebody does something that she dosen't like, she speaks her mind.

The only thing I don't like about this movie is that there only seems to excist two men in Belle's age, Gaston who is rude and selfish, and then there's Beast.
Come on Disney, just because there would be a third guy who would be nice dosen't mean Belle would instantly fall in love with him!
They just made it very convinient that there was only Gaston and Beast and not a third guy.
17
The Nutty Professor (1996,  PG-13)
The Nutty Professor
Sherman! Sherman Sherman!
I LOVE Sherman Klump's personality, this movie is both funny and at the same time it gives a good view on that it's not easy being overweight because people judge you. Eddie Murphy is BRILLIANT in this movie!
18
The Little Mermaid (1989,  G)
The Little Mermaid
I can understand why many people don't like this movie, many things are left un-explained after the movie ends.
Like why do Eric and Ariel fall in love?
Why is Ursula evil?
For me though, I don't mind it, I think the fast pace of the movie makes up for the things left un-explained. It's not like we got to know why all the other female elephants are bullies while Dumbo's mom is kind, but the movie works anyway.

The songs in this movie are great, I love "Part of your World", I sing it almost every day.
The animation is beautiful too, I always love the opening sequence.
19
The Green Mile (1999,  R)
20
The Emperor's New Groove (2000,  G)
The Emperor's New Groove
This movie is hilarious! I don't really like the characters (though Kronk and Yzma are cool), but I still love to see it once in a while!
21
The Rescuers Down Under (1990,  G)
The Rescuers Down Under
I always liked this movie better than the first movie, I really love the animation!
22
The Christmas Toy (1986,  Unrated)
The Christmas Toy
I love this movie, I used to watch it all the time when I was a kid, unfortunately the VHS I had stopped working and I haven't seen the movie since. Will obviously be the first thing I buy when it comes out on DVD.
23
Titanic (1997,  PG-13)
Titanic
I remember seeing this movie many years ago and thought it was a 3 hour torture, but now that I appreciate feelings from the characters, I decided to give it another try. The movie was so good I couldn't sleep that night, I had to watch it to the end!

Watching Titanic is a very emotional journey, Rose (Kate Winslet) has a "perfect" high status life, but she is married to an awful man and is never appreciated by her family and gets so depressed she wants to jump off Titanic, but Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) stops her from doing it, telling her he will jump with her if she does it. If you have been at that low of your life, this scene becomes so important to you, you wish yourself you'd have a Jack who was ready to go down with you.

As the movie goes on, Jack and Rose falls in love, but it's more than your average "oh, let's fall in love and kiss like mad" cliché, Jack teaches Rose to be free and be herself, taking her out of her social prison. The more time she spends with Jack, the happier she becomes. But her fiancée on the other hand, oh my god, I wanted to reach into the screen and strangle him! He is so selfish and only wants to marry Rose for her money, slapping her when he dosen't get his way with her.

I also think they handled the actual sinking of Titanic well, they could have completely ruined this movie by adding silly survival scenes and make Leonardo's characters a comic superhero. But they make it out of danger in a way that you feel that you could do that too, it dosen't feel overdone or silly. And it's also interesting to see that it's actually Rose saving Jack, instead of the cliché that "the prince shall save the princess".

The ending is so very sad, it was really hard not to cry.
24
Liar Liar (1997,  PG-13)
Liar Liar
"I've had better" makes my day every time!
25
An American Tail (1986,  G)
An American Tail
Very good movie, I watched this all the time when I was little!
26
Bruce Almighty (2003,  PG-13)
Bruce Almighty
This movie is waaaaaaay to funny! I usually don't like Jennifer Aniston, but I liked her in this movie.
27
Freaks (1932,  Unrated)
Freaks
It's Sideshow Freaks - what more can you ask for?
The story is rather silly, but you don't watch this movie for the story, you watch it for the Freaks. During the time this movie was made, people who looked different were looked upon as freaks, they were not accepted as normal people. Just being able to see these people, how they walk, how they function is just amazing. Especially Johnny Eck who was born without legs, he walks on his hands without a problem. (Actually he has legs, but they are extremely underdeveloped and small and couldn't be used for walking) And the armless ladies who uses their feets and legs to drink a glass of water. And the siamese twins Daisy and Violet Hilton moves so gracefully, it's hard to think they are siamese twins. And not to forget Schlitzie, who has the intelligence of a 3 year old, he is so adorable! He is called "she" in this movie, because he was excibited as a female, because it was easier to... well, look up info about him and you know why it was easier taking care of him wearing a dress.
28
Scary Movie (2000,  R)
Scary Movie
Love it! There are many spoofs of horror movies that works very well without even having to see the original one, even the "Budweiser Commercial" spoof works very well, I actually thought the joke was funnier before I saw the original commercial. My favorite part is that redhead who refuses to simply die and keeps on nagging!
29
South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut (1999,  R)
South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut
This movie is great, it makes fun of Disney and other kid-movies with all the musical numbers. The songs are great, they are not just create within minutes, all the songs have great rememberable melodies, all without sounding just like the other. I especially loved Satan's song, which makes fun of Disneys characters always singing a song about wanting to be somewhere else.
30
Les Douze travaux d'Astérix (The Twelve Tasks of Asterix) (1976,  Unrated)
Les Douze travaux d'Astérix (The Twelve Tasks of Asterix)
I love this movie, definately my favorite out of all the Asterix!
31
Happily Ever After (2005,  G)
Happily Ever After
It is very dark and sinister for a sequel, usually sequals are "spending christmas together" or some other mushy stuff, but this time prince gets into trouble and Snow White needs to help him.

Some things in the movie are also very emotional, which adds to the feeling that this wasn't just the regular "make some money sequel" that Disney keeps making nowadays.

And the best thing? This movie is HILARIOUS!
I don't think I've laughed so much watching a movie before, that Owl is so funny!
32
Komodo vs. Cobra (2005,  PG-13)
Komodo vs. Cobra
This is, without a doubt, one of the worst movies I have ever watched in my life. But the thing is... everything is so bad it's FUNNY!

You get the worst special effects movie-world has to offer, especially the Komodo looks out of place, it looks like a bad computer model placed onto a photograph. They don't even share the same lightning!

***SPOILER WARNING***

Unforgettable stupid death scenes, like the guy who gets his foot stuck on a fence, but because of the bad animation, turns to stone until the Komodo walks by and eats him because they couldn't animate both at the same time! So the guy just stands there, with his foot on a fence, while the Komodo slowly walks up to him and then eats him - It's soooooo bad!

The worst acting ever. The heroine? whatever her name was witness a man dying in her arms after being slimed with Komodo saliva. She cries, boo-hoo, she is so upset. Then she gets up, now in a good mood and asks "What are we going to do now?" in a cheery voice.

The worst ending ever? no, wait, "Snakes on a Train" was worse, but this ending is really bad.

I've laughed more watching this movie than some comedy's!
33
Seems Like Old Times (1980,  PG)
Seems Like Old Times
I only watched this movie because I wanted to see more of T.K Carter - and I'm so glad I did!
This movie so funny, it takes A LOT to make me laugh out loud - and I was doing it a lot in this movie!
The dialogue is hilarious, there's always a little joke to keep the pace going.
T.K Carter is great, his characters Chester is so funny!
The acting is great, I enjoy watching great acting after seeing so many poor-quality productions with horrible acting.

I'll definately will be watching this movie over again, because there are so many funny comments I'll need to watch this a hundred times over to remember them all!
34
Sicko (2007,  PG-13)
Sicko
This is a very important documentary, I was almost in tears at the end of it. I had no idea how awful the health care was in the US, that the health care industry was all about making money and giving all excuses to not give treatment. This movie made me think, because on the never-ending lists of what sicknesses you can't have to get insurance, there was "Autism", which I am diagnosed with (Highfunctioning Autism).
What if the same thing happened here?
Just a while ago, 4 shops in my country was accused of re-packing meat, though it was against the law, to save money. And it was proven with hidden cameras that it was true. It sickened me that they would risk their costumers health to gain more money, than to pay for the loss of having to throw away old meat.

How can you turn away people who need help? I honestly would NEVER do it, even if they would pay me a million dollars. If I was one of the persons who turned away the people who died, I could never look at myself again. It especially sickened me that the people who helped during 9/11 wasn't given any treatment if they couldn't prove they had been working in the disaster zone, because the health care industry wanted to save money!
I was so glad in the end when they went to Cuba and got the treatment they needed - FOR FREE.

After watching this, I want to live in France. Seriously.
35
The Fox and the Hound (1981,  G)
The Fox and the Hound
Very sweet movie, very emotional. Tod and Coopers relation is true, it's hard to imagine them just being animals, because you truly feel their friendship as if they were real humans.
36
Atomic Twister (2002,  Unrated)
Atomic Twister
This movie is hilarious!!!!!
I laugh everytime I watch this, I actually rented it twice just to laugh at it again!

***SPOILER WARNING****

There are so many stupid things in this movie, but one thing really takes the cake.
A guy is standing outside the powerplant and talks on his cellphone, when he hangs up the tornado is 3 meters behind him and sucks him up!!!
How couldn't he hear it?????

Actually, I think the mother saying "I love you" to her son just before getting sucked up into a tornado is the worst example...

Another dumb example, in the powerplant, radiation is somehow leaking in a room, so one of the persons there (4 people) has to sacrifice themselves and stop the leaking, they have only 4 minutes to do it. They decide the ugliest guy should go.
So what do they do?
.....they stand there.... FOR 2 MINUTES!!!!!
They do NOTHING!!!!
One person actually says "Now we only have 2 minutes left" and the characters have just been standing there!!!
That made me laugh so hard I couldn't take the death of that guy serious....

Other stupid things

- Kid knows how to get the vinch (sp?) working on a police car. Why didn't my parents teach me this??
- 5 year old running faster than his mom? Wow, she must have been SLOW, because she was several meters behind...
- The whole powerplant stuff is stupid. I don't know much about how powerplants works, but it all seemed stupid.
A) It is run by 4 people?
B) Mayor things can be shut down with some button? Located where kids and people walk on tours?
C) Employees having to call some company on how to do in dangerous situations?
D) Can only call people by a satellite that instantly gets smashed during a tornado?
37
Pet Sematary (1989,  R)
Pet Sematary
I can't read books (because of concentration issues), but this is one of the best Stephen King movies. Not very scary, but the story is excellent.
38
Misery (1990,  R)
Misery
The role of the crazy nurse was obviously written for Bette Middler, you can hear the way Kathy Bates talks that it was written for Bette's voice. It's very hard when you try to act "somebody else" role, but Kathy does an outstanding job, she is perfect for the role - even better than Bette Midler could possibly do it!

This is how true horror movies should be, this movie dosen't rely on gore, it relies on being terrified of a person you are trapped with. I had seen this movie before, but had forgotten some things in the movie, so I was extremely nervous when watching this - Kathy Bates is so perfect!
39
King Kong (1933,  Unrated)
King Kong
It's a classic, though the effects look kind of funny today (sorry, I always laugh when I see King Kong!), they are amazing for it's time and that's the reason I watch the movie. I love stop-go animation. The story also seem so perfect, flowing like a river, that it dosen't feel forced or dumb. Fay Wray is fantastic!
I don't give it 5 simply because I think the part where King Kong attacks the city lasts too long.
40
Batman (1989,  PG-13)
Batman
Jack Nicholson is TRULY the Joker. It was such a long time ago I watched this movie (10+ years), but when I saw how awful Heath Ledgers Joker was, I knew I wouldn't be dissapointed with Jacks performance.
If it wouldn't be for Jack Nicholson, this movie would be a total flop.

I actually don't really remember if I have actually seen this movie at all before, because I really can't remember doing it.
I hate macho superhero movies, so of course I would avoid this.

****SPOILER WARNING****

As I said earlier, Jack Nicholson was born to be Joker, as Jim Carrey was born to be Riddler.
Joker is all about havin' fun at the expense of others, unlike Heath Ledgers Joker who was basically a make-up, boring, bombing, terrorist maniac.
I was laughing because Joker was hilarious the way he killed people with the silly music playing.
When Heath Ledgers joker killed... I was bored. Really really bored.
Jack's Joker is smart, cunning and really sees the best way to take adventage of people.
The charity parade was brilliant, stuffing the balloons with deadly gas, because he knew people would be greedy enough to come.

Michael Keaton as Batman was a bit weird for me. I loved the fact that Batman was cool and handsome, while Bruce was a bit dorky and kind (like Seth Brundle in The Fly).
It made it impossible for me to even imagine Bruce was Batman, though I've known it for years.
Unlike in "The Dark Knight", where I constantly thought "Who wouldn't suspect that heartless Bruce Wayne, talking with a fake voice, as Batman?"

Also, Batman actually KILLS Joker.
I was chocked.
Batman in the "Dark Knight" let Joker live at any given moment, here Batman actually kills Joker.
This wasn't a "let's cash in on a follow up" stupid prequel movie, it had a start and an end.
Joker is dead, the day is saved, everybody lived happily ever after.
I'm so sick and tired of all the movies that push the limit just to make 234278 more sequels. (a la Pirates of the Carribean, Saw, the new Batman, Freddy Kreuger movies)

But this movie truly is all credit to Jack, if somebody else would have played the Joker... no way.
I think Batman is a serie where you are dependant on his villains, because in Batman Forever, the villains were kinda... blah. They just didn't bring "it" to the screen, forcing you to focus on Batman, who in my oppinion, is always boring.
I'm always for the villain and B-characters, heroes don't interest me.

I liked Kim Basinger though.
The scene where she opens her present from Joker was hilarious!

Oh yeah....
HE STOLE MY BALLOONS!!!! XD
41
Dante's Peak (1997,  PG-13)
Dante's Peak
I like this movie. =(
And I don't like liking it, but it's one of the "better" volcano movies that I currently seen.
(Hollywood, take a hint. Stop making crappy superhero movies and make a decent movies about volcanos!)

***SPOILER WARNING***

First of all, I am very fascinated by Volcanos, they are so powerful and destructive, everytime I watch them on TV I can imagine one day the earth will go under in a gigantic volcanoic explosion. When I watch documentaries on TV about people who have gotten in the way of a Volcano, I instantly feel how terrifying it must be to be even close to a volcano, never knowing when they will blow...

This movie starts out good, you get to know Harry Dalton (the hottie Pierce Brosnan, probably the biggest reason for me to watch this movie. I hate James Bond movies. So "mr Bond" as an volcanologist - yummy.) and his team of volcanologists. Two of them are never named, the third person isn't very interesting. The boss, Paul Dreyfus (played by Charles Hallahan) is the one sending Harry to check on the town to assess if they need to come and take a look.
They are visiting a town which has shown some changes since the last reading - Dante's Peak. (made up town)
I liked that Linda Hamilton's character felt real. A busy mother and the mayor of the town. You can feel the stress and responsibilities pulling on her in every direction. She has two kids, Graham who I guess is 12 or 13, and Lauren who is 10. Graham is disobedient and does whatever he feels like, Lauren is a good kid though and really loves her mom. They also have a grandmother that doesn't like Rachel. (mother in law)

***SPOILER WARNING***

The problem with this movie is that, despite the beginning and build up is very good, is that the movie is a... disaster... when the volcano finally blows.
You get these little clues before the eruption, Harry tries convince the town to evacuate, but Paul Dreyfus (the boss), says that an evacuation could start a panic which would make the tourists not come to town = no money.
This is what happened to him another time, when the volcano didn't erupt, but the tourists were too scared to come.
From this on, Paul is portrayed as a "bad guy" for some really weird reason.
He thinks Harry is overreacting, the only real proof they have something is up is that two people died in a hot spring and that animals fall dead in the forest.
as Paul said, it could be any other reason but the volcano, so I don't understand AT ALL why he is a bad guy from now on.

More and more clues are left, just the day before the team should leave, Harry discovers that the water supply is contaminated with sulfur. He shows this to Paul. They both agree this is a clear sign of an eruption.
Now, Paul isn't a bad guy, he agrees with Harry that they SHOULD evacuate, but he is still treated as the bad guy!
Why??

Now here's something stupid. The sulfur discovery happens near midnight. Like, maybe, around 9-11 Pm or something.
Rachel issue a warning by the TV news, HOWEVER, before anybody evacuates there's a meeting in the school 6 PM the next day!!
Why, why, why aren't they telling people to just go?
What could they possibly need to discuss?
It's so stupid!

So nobody evacuates during the day, they just casually wait around for this meeting at school. Before Rachel and Harry go there, they tell the kids to pack up some stuff and they'll be back after the meeting. (stupid)
Need to mention though, they try talking grandma to come down from the mountain. She loves her grandkids, but for some unknown reason she just refuses.
so she hangs up and won't pick up.
Harry and Rachel go to the meeting.

At the meeting, people ask "Can we evacuate now?"
"No, of course not, you need to be at this meeting and listen to nonsense about how to evacuate and read these f:ing manuals."
Okay, that's not what Rachel said, she just says "Yes, you can leave anytime you want."
Why didn't they just go, like, hours before??
Of course the volcano erupts when everybody is at this very important meeting and people scream and panic.
THEN they suddenly take their cars to get the hell out. So of course the traffic blocks the way.

Rachel and Harry go to pick up the kids, but guess what?
The kids, who must be about 8-12, becomes Superkids. They take a car up to the mountain to get the grandma.
Actually this whole movie, after the volcano finally erupts, is all about Harry and gang getting out of danger at every last second. And it's so unrealistic and stupid this movie deserves minus 3482374.
How the kids actually get there when ash completely blocks their view is beyond me.
It's pitch black, Graham doesn't know how to make the windshield vipers go faster and yet they have no problem getting there. (or FINDING there for that matter)
Harry and Rachel follow them up the mountain in their own car and falling debris block the road.
Both kids, Harry and Rachel makes it up to grandma.
Rachel gets mad at Ruth, but Ruth doesn't care.
"Blah blah, the mountain won't hurt us." like a cult member or something.

Harry tells them to pack so that they can go. (how I don't know, since the road is blocked), but... oh god...
One thing that annoys me beyond all else, is that Harry tells grandma to pack up quickly so they can leave. Grandma takes a loooooooooooooooooooo... *2378 minutes later*..... ong time to pack all of her lovely belongings. she even stops to look at old photos of when the house was built...
She really doesn't get a clue that the volcano has erupted.
That there is lava coming down.
Harry doesn't even seem to mind it either.
Anyway, then she comes down the stairs with Rachel, lava breaks into the back of the house... and the first thing grandma does... throws all the things on the floor and then they run away from the house. >_<
Yes, the stupid !"¤&# drops all of her belongings she spent ages to pack in the very last second.
UH!

It actually gets A LOT worse. Possibly the worst of the whole movie.
Harry and the gang finds a boat by the house, so they take it and get away. (because the lava melted the cars)
The house blows up, grandma whines.
Yada, yada.
Then they discover that the water has turned into acid and is melting the boat.
All the logic in this scene is thrown out the window (or in the lake and melted... -_-)
Though the whole lake is acid, it only manages to burn the actual propeller, but not the bottom of the boat.
So when they loose the power and are like 30 meters from the other side of the lake, Harry takes his jacket and "paddles" with it - and it doesn't melt!
Uh!
Cotton works against acid!
It gets a lot worse.
They realize they aren't going to make it.
Grandma jumps out of the boat and "pushes" it to the bridge at the end of the lake.
She just casually walks through the acid.
Also the movie magically makes the boat appear just 2 meters away from the bridge when grandma gets into the water, but seconds before they were at least 10 meters away.
Anyway, then when the others gets out of the boat, THEN she starts feeling the pain.
The acid water is up to her waist, but when she gets to the shore, only her legs have been burnt. They completely melt away I guess.
So it's basically magic acid water, only burns some things and not others.

When grandma later dies, I bawled my eyes out when I was like 14. But now I don't really care anymore. The whole acid scene is just SO stupid.

The other volcanologists have returned to town to evacuate people who were still there (I guess?), but when they are there, debris comes crashing down on the only bridge out of there, so they have to leave.
Of course the "bad guy Paul" gets stuck on the bridge with his car. Come on.
So he dies. Nobody cares.
When the other people THINKS Harry died, they cry. COME ON!!

Anyway, Harry makes 2 superman attempts before getting back to town.
First he finds a car that he drives through lava, it punctures all the tires, but he still manages to drive it out. And save a dog! Wow. >_<
Then, with all the punctured tires, he gets back to town. Somebody conveniently left a computer on that shows that the volcanoes pyroclastic cloud is about to come.
It's basically a cloud that moves 200-300 mph and destroys everything in it's path because of it's superheated ash and rocks.
And of course Harry gets away from it with the car with ALL TIRES PUNCTURED.
At this point, I just stop watching.

I can't believe this movie is my favorite >_<
