Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay (Harold & Kumar 2)
by MichaelI laughed A LOT... and the film gets an extra half-star from me for it's inspired tastelessness and gut-busting gags. This is probably the worst film I've given 4 stars to (it's filled with unnecessary schtick, especially a segment featuring a one-eyed inbred child) but this is one of the rare times I was able to overlook obvious faults and just go along for the ride. Sure to offend just about everyone, ESCAPE FROM GUANTANAMO BAY is one hell of a good time.
I rarely laugh out loud during comedies anymore; this was a huge exception! I still think WHITE CASTLE was the better film though.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall
by MichaelI thought it was better than both "Knocked Up" and "Superbad!"
FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL is my favorite comedy in recent memory, and is the most mature effort so far from the Apatow cannon. I can see it perplexing some audiences (mostly do to it's slower pace and Jason Segel's exposed "member"), but those without A.D.D or repulsion towards the male anatomy should be thuroughly entertained. SARAH MARSHALL is sure to become a classic, and I loved every minute of it.
(My new favorite film of 2008)Apatow and Company do it again, and the result is the funniest comedy I've seen since the 40 Year-Old Virgin.

Street Kings (The Night Watchman)
by MichaelI went to see David Ayer's new film STREET KINGS with no expectation, and hell, I really enjoyed it. It's not original in the least, taking the formula from just about every other corrupt cops film, and the previous written works of Ayer himself, but it managed to keep me intriqued in it's plot and entertained at the same time. The last twenty minutes or so did go unnecessarily over the top, but by then I didn't really care. Reeves is suprisingly strong, as is the rest of the impressive cast.
Not perfect; Not original; Not classic... but STREET KINGS is an entertaining time at the movies. Cliches and all, it's a lot of fun!
