Tyler Durden: Shut up! Our fathers were our models for God. If our fathers bailed, what does that tell you about God? Narrator: No, no, I... don't... Tyler Durden: Listen to me! You have to consider the possibility that God does not like you. He never wanted you. In all probability, he hates you. This is not the worst thing that can happen. Narrator: It isn't? Tyler Durden: We don't need him!
Narrator: [to Tyler, while looking at a Calvin Klein-esque ad on the bus] Is that what a real man is supposed to look like?
Narrator: I don't know my dad. I mean, I know him, but... he left when I was like six years old. Married this other woman, had some other kids. He like did this every six years, he goes to a new city and starts a new family. Tyler Durden: Fucker's setting up franchises.
This is a movie for the one that have been hurt before, that knows what is a broken hearted, loved some one whole heartedly and at the end knows how to move on and leave it all behind. This is that type of movie that is rare, and i loved it because i can relate too.
Tom: People don't realize this, but loneliness is underrated
Without sounding sappy and broken, 500 Days Of Summer is just pure magic and a beautiful movie that means a lot. As watching this it's like rewinding what happened to me; it makes me wanna scream, shout, and punch the movie for bringing up this matter. Marc Webb's enchanting tale of not Love Story, tells you the true love a young man feel for a girl, that is odd, precious, cute yet cold. The doomed relationship's, the pain, the suffering, the feeling of lost that Tom encounter is unbelievably relatable, which makes it one of the factor i rate this movie so high.
Summer: I woke up one morning and I just knew. Tom: Knew what? Summer: What I was never sure of with you.
Joseph Gordon Levitt is flying high, he is extremely wonderful - best performance in romance movie ever. Zooey Deschanel; this strange-perfect gal' acts as if she is Summer, and leave you dry (wish to shot her in the middle of the movie), but the last scene changes all! You can't hate her, they're just not meant to be. Great supporting cast too (Minka Kelly is drop-dead-gorgeous).
Rachel Hansen: Tom, I know you think she was the one, but I don't. Next time you look back, I think you should look again
Marc Webber first full length movie (Don't you just love fresh director?!) got remarkable reviews and praise, and i Thank him for making this movie; what a gem and put all romance movies to shame!
I'm sure i will rewatch it endlessly, and i appreciate this movie for the final scene; it gaves me hope.
Narrator: This is a story of boy meets girl. But you should know up front, this is not a love story
John Connor: No, no, no, no. You gotta listen to the way people talk. You don't say "affirmative," or some shit like that. You say "no problemo." And if someone comes on to you with an attitude you say "eat me." And if you want to shine them on it's "hasta la vista, baby." The Terminator: Hasta la vista, baby. John Connor: Yeah but later, dickwad. And if someone gets upset you say, "chill out"! Or you can do combinations. The Terminator: Chill out, dickwad. John Connor: Great! See, you're getting it! The Terminator: No problemo.
Coach Boone: You look like a bunch of fifth grade sissies after a cat fight! You got anger, that's good you're gonna need it, you got aggression that's even better you're gonna need that, too. But any little two year old child can throw a fit! Football is about controlling that anger, harnessing that aggression into a team effort to achieve perfection!
Sidney Prescott: You sick fucks, you've seen one too many movies! Billy: Now Sid, don't you blame the movies, movies don't create psychos, movies make psychos more creative!
Casey: Who's there? Ghostface: Never say "who's there?" Don't you watch scary movies? It's a death wish. You might as well come out to investigate a strange noise or something.
Gale: Jesus, the camera, hurry! Kenny: My name isn't Jesus.
Almost Famous is almost perfect in my book (Rock n Roll movies sparks my interest). It tells the story about 15 y/o kid who was hired by Rolling Stones in the 70's to tour with the hip and upcoming rock band, Stilwater and interviews each member. this is like a pass to the backstage of rock n roll band.
The tension, rivalry, booze, sex, scandal, love and everything you ever imagine is included here.
Though it's hard to believe that this is an actual life of director Cameron Crowe, but if it's he have the best teenage life ever!
The movie screenplay is solid, it's long yes, but perfect. it covers every element. and don't you forget a great movie come because of the great cast.
Kate Hudson and Frances McDorman was nominated as the Best supporting actress for Oscar. do they played it really good? see, i am not an Oscar friendly when it comes to nomination and winners, but i give it a go. No matter what orientation you are, Kate Hudson 'Penny Lane' character is one of the most charming character ever written in cinema, she is damn gorgeous, cute, bubbly, sweet, etc. so yes, i do think Kate Hudson deserved it and she should won! love Frances here, she played the kid mom, a college professors, who is conservative and witty. Billy Crudup is a versatile actor, he played as the lead singer of the band, and again he score something, same goes to Jason Lee.
Patrick Fugit who plays the center role is alright as harsh as this sound some scene makes me cringe, good thing other stars cope up to cover it. he isn't bad, but not the right cast. forget to mention, Anne Paquin and Zooey Deschanel here, small role but memorable.
Cameron Crowe second film I've seen, he is underrated for Pete sake!
Penny Lane: How old are you? William Miller: Eighteen. Penny Lane: Me too! How old are we really? William Miller: Seventeen. Penny Lane: Me too! William Miller: Actually, I'm sixteen. Penny Lane: Me too. Isn't it funny? The truth just sounds different. William Miller: I'm fifteen.
Well for starters i am sick of hearing people comparing this and Garden State! Both movie are good, that's it.
After causing a loss of almost one billion dollars in his company, the shoe designer Drew Baylor decides to commit suicide. Drew (Orlando Bloom) is a guy who never have a close knit relationship with his father, he was all busy working his ass off, chasing his dream. After the dream vanishes he become vulnerable, he have no meaning in life. Then Bam! he get the news of his old man death, he postpone the suicide thought and embark a journey to his old man's root. The root that change his perception about his own dad, he discover that his dad was a fine gentleman and funny too. The movie is filled with such a depth, that it's so unbelievably beautiful. Then come a quirky Air hostess (Kirsten Dunst), they share an i-know-you-like-me moment. The movie doesn't force hard about their relationship. The ending was perfect! A road trip to sense that life is vast and it have a bigger meaning, one failure doesn't cost that much lost, after all life is a short story.
Orlando Bloom, the actor which i never peak an interest on, he did good. he is perfectly cast as Drew Baylor. Kirsten Dunst in my opinion is an actress who did good in one movie, and failed in another. but well, she succeed here!
Cameron Crowe's first movie that i ever seen. The dialogue, cinematography, music is comforting, he doesn't create a 'new' thing, but he did make a good one.
I know that people want all 'fiction tale' in a movie, sometimes i wonder what they mean 'Realistic' in a movie? The movie have many hidden meaning, or i am reading it too much? Maybe, but all i know is this movie is totally under-rated and didn't deserve all the hatred!
Claire Colburn: I've spent so much time thinking about all the answers to the problem, that I forget what the problem *actually* was.'
I know i have to re-watched it, first when it first released in 2006, it didn't awe me, but by watching more films, now i can say it's a solid gem!
What you look in a movie? Original concept, great stars, humor, and last moral story. Every now and then we see a movie, but when we catch what it's trying to tell us, we'll ended up loving it.
Let me jump to the point where this movie fascinates me, the infamous 'pageant scene', that was a brutally honest moment, where all the dysfunctional family members realize that it's ok to failed, it's ok to be loser, and it's ok not to follow others. i love this dialogue; 'Dwayne: You know what? Fuck beauty contests. Life is one fucking beauty contest after another. You know, school, then college, then work, fuck that. And fuck the air force academy. If I wanna fly, I'll find a way to fly. You do what you love, and fuck the rest..'
Get it? The last scene where all the family dance like a loony and mocks up the beauty pageant members was a triumph, it makes me remember this quote : ' Don't take Life seriously, No body does..'
V for Vendetta is not your type of superhero kick-the-villain-ass type. This movie represents symbolism, idea, fascism and revolution. It's not your type to watch once; I confess have to re watched it. From your acclaimed writer, Alan Moore (Watchmen) we are taken to the future. In England, the government controlled the people; they are rich, corrupt and powerful. V your superhero/ terrorist, is the only person set to make a change, a revolution to make people remember that 'The government should be scarred of its people, not vice versa'.
To make a motion twist, add a young girl Evey who is saved by V from the government police. They got too stayed hidden, until 5th of November; the day V promised and challenged the British government for its change. Will they succeed? Will the people rise up and support to make an epic revolution?
The movie is confusing; with a lot of intricate dialogue and ideas of setting up rebellion it can make one loose interest. But like many people said, A classic will become classic after sometimes? give it times, and this will be the best comic adaptation ever!
Natalie Portman, love her but her British accent is somehow unbearable.( I was thinking Rachel Weisz?) But heck, she did well. Hugo weaving and John Hurt is excellent, you'll support and hate both of their character.
The idea of revolution seems a perfect momentum for today's life and maybe for the future too. The basic story line is bold, fresh and filled with energy. Never had I felt myself carried away in any other movie.
Lewis Prothero: So I read that the former United States is so desperate for medical supplies that they have allegedly sent several containers filled with wheat and tobacco. A gesture, they said, of good will. You wanna know what I think? Well, you're listening to my show, so I will assume you do... I think it's high time we let the colonies know what we really think of them. I think its payback time for a little tea party they threw for us a few hundred years ago. I say we go down to those docks tonight and dump that crap where everything from the Ulcered Sphincter of Ass-erica belongs! Who's with me? Who's bloody with me?
Peyton Wells: We find the building with the thickest walls and strongest doors and we barricade ourselfs in, sit tight, wait for help.
Alice: There won't be any help. According to Ashford, Umbrella know they can't contain the infection. So at sunrise this morning, Raccoon City will be completely sanitized.
American Beauty charm works different in every one. In my case, i was hook from the first scene. Was it because i felt compassion to Kevin Spacey's character? or was it Sam Mendes brilliant way of directing? Bottom line is, American is a great film that grows into you every time you watch it.
I think this is the best ending I've seen in a trilogy (Second to LOTR series..). Star Wars - Return Of The Jedi is a fun, long, adventurous, and yet with a cozy and heartwarming ending. We will see, Jabba The Hut for the first time - famous for it's yuck-ness. Soft side of Darth Vader, Death Star, Family secret, and so much more. Harrison Ford, Mark Hamil and Carrie Fisher made this movie. Great special effect, and John Williams background score is mesmerizing!
Darth Vader: Luke... help me take this mask off. Luke: But you'll die. Darth Vader: Nothing... can stop that now. Just for once... let me... look on you with my *own* eyes. [Luke takes off Darth Vader's mask one piece at a time. Underneath, Luke sees the face of a pale, scarred, bald-headed, old man - his father, Anakin. Anakin sadly looks at Luke] Anakin: Now... go, my son. Leave me. Luke: No. You're coming with me. I'll not leave you here, I've got to save you. Anakin: You already... have, Luke. You were right. You were right about me. Tell your sister... you were right. [Anakin slumps down in death] Luke: Father... I won't leave you.
X - Men really pulled off!
it have great director, addictive story line, tasty speciall effect and last great actor!
I'm addicted to this movie, enough said.
Perfomance:
Hugh Jackman is one of those actor which excel in potraying a character. he pulled off Wolverine not just well, brilliant!
you can sense his confusion, anger and last his emotion.
Ian mckellen, Patrick stewart, Anna paquin and last, Rebbeca romijin as Mystique are one of the best actor potrayed here!
Others are only an eye candy, Halle berry can be easily replaced.. it goes for Famke janssen too!
Direction: Bryan singer.. *clap hands* is brilliant! every minute of this movie brings up to hype and imagination.
Have watched it many times, and still counting.. :)
Crash, a movie which won many critics and praise. is it worth it?
The plot was fantastic, original as it best, beat every big budget movie in history.
Plot center about Racism which is like a plague in this world, it rots in people, create prejudice, war, discrimination and last death. is it all worth it?
A movie which questions your act, judgment and your's day to day reactions. A movie which makes you think twice every day in your life, an insight look to humanity.
Performance: Matt dillon, Sandra bullock, Ryan phillipe and Thandie newton have been included in my list of must watch actors after this one! :)
Direction: Paul Haggis, a man which i salute to the most, to brings this concept alive and out loud. No misleading direction, some twist and steady pace. Great dialogue, catchy background music and soundtrack.
A movie which i highly recommend, at least you should watch it once! don't miss it.
Thomas Gabriel: 'On your tombstone it should read, "Always in the wrong place at the wrong time". John McClane: How about, "Yippi-kay-ay, motherfucker - "
Not everyone cup of tea?? yes it is, the movie can be offensive and very appealing for someone's! and that some one is ME!
What i love about this movie? They don't try too hard to be funny because the script, dialogue, cast and act were all being put together in the way that can make everyone laugh their ass of, or at least give a big grin. LOL
All the actors made it un-believable entertaining for us to watch. Jason biggs, though refer as a pie fucker, admit it he was awesome here! Sean w. scott, BIGGEST jerk in movie's history! Chris klein and Thomas ian, did good job too.
I know some people will think why i put this on my fav. movies list and this kind of praise? i dont exactly know what to say, but one thing I'm sure i can watch it many many times! :) Oh, and one of the best movie from the 90's!
The Joker: 'Do you want to know why I use a knife? Guns are too quick. You can't savor all the... little emotions. In... you see, in their last moments, people show you who they really are. So in a way, I know your friends better than you ever did. Would you like to know which of them were cowards??
seven is a movie which have a slow start, but turn out to be best, intresting and thrilling movie!
i was feeling a bit bored in the first half of this movie, then come the second part, the pace become faster and makes me sit tight and becoming so curious about the ending! and yes, WHAT A GREAT ENDING IT WAS!! :)
it remind me of Silence of lamb a bit, but in whole other diffrent way, this is the second best!
i salute Brad pitt here, maybe many people will be surprised to hear that I NEVER LIKE BRAD PITT ACTING OR MOVIE, he is just a moderate actor with a pretty face for me!
but, after this movie i think he deserve a declaration as an actor! he done good job!
Morgan freeman, what can i say, he is a kick ass here men!
gwyneth paltrow, complete the movie, though i was a bit dissapointed with the end, THAT WHY THEY DON'T SHOW HER HEAD??? (SPOILERSSS) lol..
they show a lot of gore scenes, which was good, but why not the head????
last i adore Kevin spacey here, just a small part but always memorable! physcho freak! lol..
I've been avoiding this movie for many years, why? read the title, the cast; Kate Winslet & Jim Carrey?
But when the time come i know i will watch it, and it did have a great impact on me.
Eternal Sunshine Of Spotless Mind is a tale of relationship that went sour and boring, haven't we face it all? Add the 'memory-erased' process, makes it more interesting and mildly enjoyable.
The process of erasing Joel's (Jim Carrey) memory is somewhat complicated and hard to follow. The camera work, the background music was blur and distracting, good thing it have one of the most beautiful ending. I re-watched the first twenty minutes of the movie after it ends. That great huh? :]
Jim Carrey should get at least a nomination for this, he did awesome. Kate Winslet did.. brilliant! As the neurotic blue-orange hair female lead (wonder, where we can see this kind again..) Supporting cast was good too, yes i am talking about Kirsten Dunst and Tom Wilkinson. They mirror a complex relationship perfectly. And it would be foolish to leave Charlie Kaufman (writer), and Michael Gondry (director) name's. great work!
This movie will surely evoke your personal memories, (well for some people). Great movie to watch!
Clementine: Hi! Joel: Excuse me? Clementine: I just said hi. Joel: Oh! Hi, hello. Clementine: I'm Clementine... No jokes about my name. Joel: I don't know any jokes about your name. Clementine: Huckleberry Hound. Joel: I don't know what that is. Clementine: Huckleberry Hound! [singing] Clementine: Oh my darling, oh my darling, oh my darling Clementine. Joel: I don't know what that means. Clementine: Are you NUTS? Joel: It's been suggested.
Tina Fey brings us to the world of high-schoolers. This movie brought you to that place where you remember how cruel and funny high school can be, the 'Plastic' girls, the jealousy, revenge and sweet Lord, betrayal.
Mark Waters did an awesome job by making a movie that's repeatable and still enjoyable!
I believe this movie success should be given to the duo star, Lindsay Lohan and Rachel Mcadams. Who knows Rachel can act mean and bitchy here?
Damian: You can't join Mathletes, it's social suicide! Ms. Norbury: Thanks, Damian.
What makes this movie good and different from others? Well, for one it isn't a chick flick! It combines both source from male and female perception about relationship, sex and friendship.
Rob Reiner genius directing and great humor and witty dialogue holds it special record, and i am one of those person that says; Guys and Girls 'can' be friends, but that's way to rare, or at least from what i know.
Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal doesn't share that great chemistry like what Meg and Tom Hanks did, but it's just so funny to see them both together. And The 'orgasm in the restaurant' scene was damn good, ha ha!
Harry Burns: I love that you get cold when it's 71 degrees out. I love that it takes you an hour and a half to order a sandwich. I love that you get a little crinkle above your nose when you're looking at me like I'm nuts. I love that after I spend the day with you, I can still smell your perfume on my clothes. And I love that you are the last person I want to talk to before I go to sleep at night. And it's not because I'm lonely, and it's not because it's New Year's Eve. I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.
Surprisingly Good! I can't stand watching Brokeback mountain , but i can see this one? why? well, they don't over dramatized it first of all. Just simple story about a guy who have a lot on his plate, he baby sit and practically taking care of his nephew, he has a drunk and lazy ass sister, couldn't full fill his wish to go to an art school, cause of his current condition. Came along a guy who sweeps him and change his whole life. Man, that sounds cheesy - but well it's not.
Great acting from unknown cast, great ending. 9/10
Based on a best selling novel, Devil wears Prada offers a fresh looks of fashion theme. The movie dwells with human moral and a fun ride in fashion world!
The story is catchy, a secretary who manage to try her best to cope up with her crazy, selfish, and bossy employer!
Performance: Miranda prestly played by Meryl Streep is genuinely guilty pleasure character ever! i loved her, she is so cunning that makes you want to rip her off!
Anne Hathaway, surpasses her 'Princess diaries' era. she did good job. I think this is her stepping stone to the A - List chart. and dont forget the charming and silly, Emily blunt.
Direction: dragging in the last part of the movie, over all satisfying.
To close this review, just want to say that this is not a chick flick movie, in my definition chick flick is a movie that have crap romance in it, and there was none here. but if you still think it is, then screw you! :P
As im being fully informed about this story continuation from the previous installment, i really enjoyed it! :D
Everything goes perfect, it is long i know, but being put in such a way that you need to watch it till the rest. the story here even getting better, the Helm Deep Battle was fantastic! Peter Jackson done a really marvelous job, comparing this movie was from 2002 with any other fiction movie release now days, i choose this one better! Gollum character makes me laugh all the way, he is an adorable creature! ( i know im weird :P)
And one thing i notice too was the dialogue being used, it is AMAZING!!! I never enjoy any dialogue from any movies till date, it gives me such a pleasure to know there are smart people in this world who can done great job with dialogues!
- No parents must bury their children.. - King Thedon.
Great, great, great! i never thought i would ended up loving it, the movie is simple, real and true to it's core. Story about the inside look of Wrestler, and their life beyond it. Mickey Rourke should won Oscar (yes, another ranting from me!), maybe he played him self in the movie, but its better then the over reach Penn in 'Milk'. Oh, and one can't forget the stellar astounding supporting cast by Marissa Tomei.
The first installment of the most successful movie in the world, Indiana Jones starts with a great opening scene, and continues with enjoyable adventure!
While watching Indiana Jones i just feel completely awe, this is the beginning of a great cinematic direction!
The story is a bit confusing, but Spielberg maintain in such way, that hands down this is one of his best direction, period. The movie contains many humorous scenes, great action and acting, combine with one of the most adventurous movie ever.
The plot of Lost Ark comes as tacky to me, and it's right. the ark is that small?! plot centers around how Indy with his sweetheart, Marion try to find the Lost Ark before it goes to the hand of the Nazis. it's the same old fashion, good guy and bad guy but the way of directing by the Genius Spielberg make this movie not boring and lame. i am sure I'll re-watch it again soon.
The direction is great, but left many plot hole (Heck, what you expect from a 80's movie!)
Plot hole: The biggest and funniest is, Lost Ark in Cairo? and Nazi's in Cairo too? LOL. But that doesn't over-shadow the brilliant direction, like the first temple scene, or chasing scene in Cairo or maybe the Snakes scene. The humor added here was even great, it doesn't come out as tacky, and surprising for me i keep laughing over and over. Didn't know the 80's movie can be so much enjoyable. :)
Harrison Ford is the best Indy ever, he is great, don't need to say more. I love Karren Allen, she is so sweet to be true.
Favorite quote; Toht (the evil geologist):
'You Americans, you're all the same. Always overdressing for the wrong occasions...!'
A fictionalized account of the first major successful sexual harassment case in the United States -- Jenson vs. Eveleth Mines, where a woman who endured a range of abuse while working as a miner filed and won the landmark 1984 lawsuit.
A heavy subject which was brilliantly filmed. The movie boost up feminine rights and facts, it's kinda depressing and somehow touching.
Charlize Theron is amazing, she played a mother who would fight to support her children. France Mcdormand does yet another great acting, and good thing she got nominated.
Bill White: What are you supposed to do when the ones with all the power are hurting those with none? Well for starters, you stand up. Stand up and tell the truth. You stand up for your friends. You stand up even when you're all alone. You stand up..'
One movie that I've been waiting patiently in 2008, when the premiere night opens here, i should be there. Was i dissapointed? Nope.
Wanted is basiclly a fun-action packed- movie, that i understand. with crazy actions stunts and sweet special effect makes me enjoyed more!
Direction; A very fast paced movie, i just sit and get up in just a blink of eye! lol Timur bekambetov, is quiet imprresive. Many action sequence i never seen; SPOILERS: Like the train scenes was very eye - popping! dark crude humor, gore and blood plus very funny witty lines. 'He is the Man..!' :P
Perfomance; Lets go to James Mcavoy first. never see his work, might say 'avoid' his work many times. (i never see a rising star movies, cos most of the time i found it overrated!). But he.. did great! His action, dialogue delivery and emotion was really good. now im looking forward for his projects.
Angelina Jolie, the only reason i was intrested in the movie from the first time. She is magnificient! Brilliant in potraying a Cool-dead killer- look. not many lines and very very sexy! (Though i agree, she needs some foods. very anorexia look.)
Morgan Freeman did hillariously awesome! you will loved him from the first scene only. SPOILERS: His dead scene cracks me up like hell.
Overall, throw your brains out, buy some drinks, and enjoy the ride!
Ps: dont take seriously about the last dialogue of the movie. overall its a pleasure fun movie. Oh, and check out how many morons in IMDB are still debating about that 'controversial' last dialogue. =)
I just LOVE the concept, thrilling action, i enjoyed all the swords fighting.. Quentin's only movie that i saw was only Pulp fiction, which i dont enjoy that much.. but this one, i sure did!
Uma thurman fit the role of a revengefull mission bride as hell.. but who steal the show for me in thie vol. 1 is only LUCY LIU!! i always adore her, but in this movie, she is just as bad ass as hell.. she play her character perfect! i get a goosebum by seeing the way she smile at uma at the last scene, she doesnt have to show her body but she is entirely HOT! :P
Im eager to buy the vol. 2 in DVD next week, wow.. cant imagine what's gonna happen, more blood, and cant wait for the sexy Daryl hannah to rock the screen..!!
i recomend to all, its a fun time pleasure movie.. and please check out Lucy liu, she is a stealer.. lol
Twelve Monkey should be rewarded as one of the best time-travel, sci-fi movie!
In 125 minutes length we will learn a very confusing time-loop journey of one men who is sent back to 1990 to gather information that killed 5 Billion people in the year 1996. Confused? yeah, sort of.
Twelve Monkeys plays with your mind, intelligence and arise debate and curiosity.
After you 'gather' all the missing puzzle at the end of the movie, you will feel excited and surely give this excellent movie a high praise.
Bruce Willis is amazing, and Brad Pitt got the nomination? now, i love to see Brad as a loony guy, but Bruce Willis character is far superior.
My first Terry Gilliam movie, he deserve all the praise as one of the best director!
James Cole: Look at them. They're just asking for it. Maybe the human race deserves to be wiped out. Jeffrey Goines: Wiping out the human race? That's a great idea. That's great. But more of a long-term thing. I mean, first we have to focus on more immediate goals.
If the 70's have Star Wars to hold on too their memories, i would nominate this movie for the 90's kid. Alright i read some review here and there and said that it's unrealistic!? sshh.. stop! it's an ENTERTAINMENT, second problem with others is, it's less emotional portrayal, dude you think this is better then the boring, over hyped E.T!?
See, again the kids in the 80's might think that E.T is one of the best movie of all time, overall i love it and hold back many memories. :]
One flew over the cuckoo's nest is regarded as classic by many expert movie goers, and I agreed with them. This movie has it all, a heart warming story, fantastic actors, humor and a powerful ending. What's make it far superior is, it was made in 1975 and still hold a unique quality.
The brilliant Jack Nicholson stars as RP McMurphy, a chaos creating man but with free spirited personalities. He is unique, he is brave and he defends what's right. The movie starts when he arrived at the mental asylum, after convincing guards that he's crazy enough to need psychiatric care and is sent to a hospital. He glued well in his current situation, and well maybe enjoyed their companies. The companies deranged from voluntarily to permanent. The movie builds up its tension in it second part as McMurphy influenced the other patients to stand up for what is right, against the evil and creepy Nurse Ratched. Things go uncontrolled on Christmas Eve, and there will be no tomorrow it seems for the residents of the asylum.
It's a brilliant film that deserved its praised well, good things people know what they are voting for (In IMDB).
McMurphy: What do you think you are, for Chrissake, crazy or somethin'? Well you're not! You're not! You're no crazier than the average asshole out walkin' around on the streets and that's it.
'Now the whole world's gonna know that you died scratching my balls! ' - James Bond
'Vesper Lynd: Am I going to have a problem with you, Mr. Bond? James Bond: No, don't worry, you're not my type. Vesper Lynd: Smart? James Bond: Single.'
M: You don't trust anyone, do you? James Bond: No. M: Then you've learned your lesson. '
James Bond: 'The job's done and the bitch is dead..'
James Bond: Vodka-martini. Bartender: Shaken or stirred? James Bond: Do I look like I give a damn?
Thirteen is a bold and disturbing movie about the life of teens. Though i can't believe that they named it 'Thirteen' and thinks we believe that the girls here are 13 years old, well..
For some people Thirteen is just a crazy movie about a brat who get herself involve in bad things like, sex, drugs and booze? But, haven't we all, once or twice in our 'Teens' life get allured in this things?
I loved this movie, the story is basic, the acting is amazing and best of it, it's haunting!
A thirteen-year-old girl's relationship with her mother is put to the test as she discovers drugs, sex, and petty crime in the company of her cool but troubled best friend.
Of course that NOT all scenes in this movie should we swallow as if it happens in real life, but it shows certain things that makes you think!
Evan Rachel Wood played the central character here, her acting capability range from playing a good-girl type to the worst of it, you should think twice before judging her.
Nikki Reed will surely capture your attention. Wonder how such a talented actress ends up playing Twilight (You got me right, it was meant to be sarcastic!)
Holly Hunter played a mother of a troubled teen, you would feel sympathy when you saw her here.
I would say it out loud that this movie is over-shadowed, under rated. Start hunting it down!
Melanie: What is that? Tracy: [whispers] It's a belly-button ring. Melanie: Speak up, I can't hear you. Tracy: ITS A BELLY-BUTTON RING! HOW ELSE CAN I SAY IT, I DON'T SPEAK NO OTHER LANGUAGES! Oh, and you wanna know what that is, [sticks out her tongue] Tracy: that is a tongue ring.
Brilliant! When this movie is regarded as one of the best comedies, i think to myself, it's being exaggerated, but well gotta admit this movie is freaking hilarious and would be an instant classic.
Does it beat previous comedies movies? i would say, yeah it does! The concept of Vegas, Bachelor party, missing groom, and ton of comedic miss-match is just a breathe of fresh air, i love comedies movies now days!
The chemistry between the co-stars were enjoyable, especially Allen (Zach Galifianakis), his character as a fat/eccentric/strange man will always be there in our mind :P
Alright, just get over my review and watch it or better watch it then buy yourself the DVD!
Slumdog Millionaire is referred as the feel - good movie of 2008. But I wasn't feeling that good to see a small kid jumping into the crap hole just to see his favorite star at the beginning (No pun intended).
Slumdog is a good movie regardless, it shows the contrast of relationship (Salim and Jamal), love story (Jamal and Latika), and of course the haunting Mumbai city!
Danny Boyle love to mock certain culture and country, like what he did in Trainspotting (1996). He mocks the lifestyle of Scottish people yet at the end we still experience the 'feel - good' aura! (Love this guy!). In 2008 he did it again and now we see the exploitation of Indian people, mostly the central city, Mumbai.
The movie direction between the game show and Jamal's childhood flashback is quite enchanting. But it still left a silly plot hole. You will feel the excitement and passion of Jamal's life story, the adventure he undergoes, the violent he witness and the love he finds is exhilarating.
The movie arouse many eye-brows between Indian people and i tell you why;
1. Mumbai looks scary! I've been there certain times and no it's not like what they show. Yes, I get it they are Slums children, and I gotta agree by certain scenes (Like, Stealing foods, Beggars, etc). But I still hope that they would show how Mumbai is like in the present days!
2. The language, yes I know that this is an English movie but the transformation between the younger Jamal to the elder one is hard to believe. His English accent sound westernize, and that makes certain people criticize! I'm not saying that Indian people isn't fluent in English, Heck I think that we are more fluent then certain countries (Again, No pun intended!), but they are Slums. But, my perception is different, Have you seen Memoirs of Geisha? Japanese people talk fluent English, so why not Indians?!
3. The questions. I was laughing very hard when Jamal was asked who the heroic figure in the 1000 Rupees note is? And he said 'I don't know'. Stop! when you spend your childhood stealing people's money, you would know it, I'm certain.
Once you passed this debate you would see that Danny Boyle's Slumdog version is only meant to be a feel-good movie and fiction, and he did an awesome job! Though some scenes makes me cringe (specially the last line), And the scene where the younger Jamal jump into the crap pile is exaggerated! I was offended somehow.
Dev Patel is a great young actor, he balances his thick-British accent to the max, and his emotional expression is surely believable. Freida Pinto, though not as stunning as Aishwarya Rai, she is cute and act well for a supporting role. Other cast did good, specially Irfan Khan (The Namesake, A Mighty Heart) was a treat!
Background music is superb, it's about time that people recognize how talented Mr. A.R Rahman is (Check out his other score in Bollywood movies; Lagaan, Dil - Se, etc)
Still it's a hit and miss movie, some people will love it and some not. This is not the best Bollywood / English movie in my opinion (i still prefer Moonsoon Wedding) but it is one of the best movie of 2008.
It is one of those miraculous entertainments that achieves its immediate goals and keeps climbing toward a higher summit. - Roger Ebert.
I can't never get bored of this movie, even though i know how it's going to end. Brilliant script, great cast - Haley Joel Osment is the best child star, period.
The start makes me cringe, yes Spielberg want to show us how 'real' war can looks like, but it feels forced. but, after half an hour then you can know why this movie get four and half star in my book.
Speilberg is a genius director who knows his script, directing and trademark. the 'reality' of war is always horrid and painful, with endless torture and sacrifices from soldiers. great concept between the actors makes it seems alive and don't forget excellent set, background music, cinematography, explosion, action, dialogue and emotion.
I'm not arguing that this might be one of the best war movie. The star cast is talented, from Hanks, Burns to Damon or Davies and Goldberg.
No need to explain more, memorable!
Private Reiben: You know what that song reminds me of? It reminds me of Mrs. Rachel Troubowitz and what she said to me the day I left for basic. Mellish: What, don't touch me? Private Reiben: No, Mrs. Rachel Troubowitz was our super's wife. She comes into my mom's shop to try on a few things, all right? And she's easily like a uh, a 44 double E. These things are massive. And I've got her convinced that she's like a 42D, all right. So we're in the dressing room, she's trying to squeeze into this side cut, silk ribbonned, triple panel girdle with the uh, shelf-lift brassiere and it's beautiful because she's just pouring outta this thing, you know? It's beautiful. And she sees me and she can tell I got a hard on the size of the statue of liberty, all right? And she says to me, "Richard, calm down." And she says, "Now when you're over there, if you see anything that upsets you, if you're ever scared, I want you to close your eyes and think of these. You understand?" So I said, "Yes, ma'am."
Too beautiful to die, Too wild to live. A sad, tragic story of supermodel Gia Carrangi. Jolie delivers her best, maybe because she isn't acting, she is 'it'.
To be frank, I have not seen this film before, cause I thought it would bored me. (See, i am honest!) This review comes from somebody who is Non US and don't live in the society who knows Star Wars.
Star Wars is an excellent portrayal of science fiction, the movie gives you chance to explore, to think and dream about lives out there. I always love Sci-Fi, as I think it's a great genre to delude you from days to day's problems (Corny much?)
The starting of the movie is simple yet fascinating, it tells about two robots that escape from their planet and ended up in the hand of a young farmer, Luke Skywalker (Don't you just love the name!). After being rescued by Obi Wan Kenobi, they set journey to rescue Princess Leia from the evil master, Darth Vader with the help of the cocky yet kind pilot, Han Solo who wants reward in return.
The story is exciting and easy to follow, I love when sci-fi film is made simple. The character development is handled good; like how the friendship between Han and Luke or between the two robots (which by the way I completely adore now) or the creepy evil master, Darth Vader.
Comes to directing, George Lucas is a genius to write this whole screenplay. There is adventure, love, friendship, morality and humor in it, and more of it I love the hint and clue of the past; like Han's father? Or why Darth Vader becomes evil? And who the hell is Obi Wan Kenobi? This makes me more exciting to watch the sequel and prequel for that matter. The movie length is perfect, not too long to bore us, yet not too fast to fool us.
Though of course there are some flaw that bother me, let's make it brief alright; Chewbacca?!, The battle ending scene and the last 5 minutes feel dragged, but I will never complain about the special effect used here, I love movie that gives me fun time.
Ending this review, I loved it and understand why this is list as one of the most influential movies of all time, it is influential, you can clearly see many scenes are recycle in the future movies and dialogues too!
C-3PO: Just you reconsider playing that message for him! [R2 beeps a question] C-3PO: No, I don't think he likes you at all. [R2 beeps again] C-3PO: No, I don't like you either.
Knowing, another stupid title for movie to release this year, but indeed one of the above average film.
Knowing premise is somewhat exciting and promising. the movie start up good, and lead us to a great adventure (Yes, i enjoyed it very much), but the ending was a let down, as many of you have known. I'm not saying it have a sucky ending or it's shitty, i kind of seeing it coming to be frank, but the portrayal is less superior, silly and heavy on religious interpretation.
Nicholas Cage, an actor which you can't like nor hate. he stars in numerous crap these past few years, but he did good. Rose Byrne is pretty and a good supporting cast.
Edit : After months of watching this, i begin to think this movie is amazing and kinda love it!
well if Brad bird is the Academy award winning director, i think he deserve it again! :)
he does a great job, how the relationship between the clumsy chef and cute mouse, really brings joy to my face, some very funny comedy scene, and how with the mixture of suspense by that short-chef and the critic writer really brings all formula to be one cartoon movie which will be remembered for a long time!
I read Little Women novel, when i was in high school, in my English class and have loved it since then.
What makes LT great is the simplicity, love and humanity inside it. i doubt if any body could hate this movie, it's a perfect movie for all age! and in this movie, in Gillian's direction, she couldn't mislead. every scenes are handled greatly, it hard to resist!
Winona.. oh men, she is great isn't she? love her here. every one plays in such tone, it's perfect! (Specially, Christian Bale and Claire Danes.)
LT would be one of those movie which you watch with your family, or at least while watching it, it will remind you of the warmth of family. (Don't call me cheesy :P)
Another movie which i regret not watching it earlier! Sin city gives me a great adventure with amazing twist.. Original script, great direction, beautiful set and contrast (i love how they make the background black in color and add a bright color aside, which is like, red dresses at the first scene, or Jaime's blonde hair or Clive's red shoes!!) it got some gore scene, which strangely i enjoyed.. slick action, ear chopped off or head chopped off?? cool!
Perfomance; i love Mickey rourke and Elijah wood, seriously Elijah's role as Kevin, give me a goosebump! Other was amazing, surprisingly i found Alexis and Rosario very very appealing! Josh hartnett and Jessica alba is a waste, hope they get a better role in the sequel! as i never read anything by Frank miller, will read it.. and for Robert rodriguez, will enthusiasticly watch his other work (hope its also magnificient!) rounding my finger for the sequel on 2009!
Yes Sir, guilty as charged! i avoid this movie cause of 'un-known' reason, but damn this movie is great !!
KKBB is indeed one of the best dark comedy ever, the movie got a style, amusing dialogue and great cast.
Mental Note : This is not an action movie, it's just simply a great comedy movie revolving around murder and mystery.
A petty thief posing as an actor is brought to Los Angeles for an unlikely audition and finds himself in the middle of a murder investigation along with his high school dream girl and a detective who's been training him for his upcoming role. get it? :]
Robert Downey is great, i guess better then his role in Iron Man or Tropic Thunder, his role is way underrated. Val Kilmer give a refreshing character, a gay cop? he is witty too! Michelle Monaghan is not left far behind, with her good acting in Eagle Eye, you may want to watch her here.
'Harry: Still gay? Perry: Me? No. I'm knee-deep in pussy. I just like the name so much, I can't get rid of it..'
This is a great movie with less expectation or promotion i guess, of course we know this is Sam Raimi film, the man behind Spider Man blockbuster, but after the not-so-satisfying 'Spidey 3' i begin to doubt Sam, fool i was!
Drag me to hell deals with supernatural theme, like ghost, spirit, sacrifices, possessed, spell, etc. Something that is so simple and common but rare to see in Hollywood's production. The movie start out good, then went great and finale; awesome! and can't forget the humor and slapstick jokes.
Alison Lohman, what a smart choice! She is not the prettiest girl you ever see, not such an astonishing-model figure either, but believable and great acting too! Love the supporting actors; especially Lorna Raver as Mrs. Ganush; exceptional.
I love you, man is an entirely different and breathe of a fresh air to the comedy department. The movie revolves around a guy who focus his entire life on relationship with girls, that he left out the 'bros' boat. His married is coming soon, and he need a best man! This movie rocks and I'll tell you why; totally different as i have said before the script is very catchy and the direction is just hilarious, wild and man- type like as i predicted. The raunchy jokes, dialogue, awkwardness, friendship is an instant classic!
Jason Segel and Paul Rudd should win best chemistry ever! Personally, i think if you have guys friend that is always there for you like i do, you'll definitely love this movie!
'Bro's before Hoes' :P
Peter Klaven: I'm Peter Klaven, I'm the Realtor. Sydney Fife: Hey check out these two. That guy needs to fart. Peter Klaven: He does seem to be clenching. Sydney Fife: Watch the leg... Boom! Peter Klaven: He farted in my open house. Sydney Fife: He sure did.
Spanish: Damn, I gonna end up workin' at Red Lobster. Frat Brother: You already work at Red Lobster. Spanish: Yea, but its part time... dick.
Mitch: I've had a hell of a day and even worse week. And all I want to do is get some fucking sleep. Beanie: Whoa. Whoa. Why the F-ing? Why in front of the kid? All ya gotta do is say "earmuffs" to him, and you can say "Fuck, shit, bitch." Frank: Cock. Balls. Beanie: I'm just trying to make a point, Frank. You don't have to celebrate it.
Red Eye doesn't offer new plot, it's predictable, yes? But what make this movie stuck as a great thriller is the thrill, the rush, the emotion and surprise!
Rachel MCAdams and Cillian are both talented and caliber actors. and add The Master of Thriller, Wes Craven.. this is a great thriller! :)
Wow, Judd Apotow make a comeback for me, since his 40 years old virgin hype, i love his stories but then he went downhill with crap like Knocked up Superbad (No offense!) and he jump up again and score Forgetting Sarah Marshall! :)
FSM is cool, cute, hilarious, decent acting and got two '2' serious HOT women!! I liked the script as i had seen it all, a guy who just being dump, went on vacation and fell for another women, and realize his ex is total wrong for him. Quiet boring, but well that happens you know..
Jason Segel is funny, his 'Penis' scene made me laugh my ass off, he also wrote the screenplay, nice one. but seriously he deserve credit for this movie, IMO he is way better then 'Oh I am Seth Rogen - laugh - at - my - joke!'. I hope him and Apatow contribute more projects in the future.
Kristen bell is perfect as Sarah Marshall, cunning and drop down hell sexyyy! Though i hate her character a lot, but at the end YOU will realize that Sarah Marshall is only a human being, well beyotch gal human being. :P
Mila Kunis, oh Jackieeee (That 70 Show), she is unbelievable. She is amazing, Damn she looks GREAT by age! Looking forward to all her new movies!
And two actors that catch my attention is Russel Brand and Jonah Hill. Russel is hilarious, fucking funny. and Jonah hill play a decent sweet 'Gay' (he is gay, right?) guy.
Direction is perfect, its quiet long duration about 2 hours, but it pass so fast. there are many 'LMAO' scene, especially 'Dracula Song' (Bar version), i can't stop laughing when i saw that. Nice job Nicholas stoller!
Devdas tell the story of a men journey in love. it is basically a tragic love story. SRK really acts amazing here, he plays with emotional and hit the part. Aishwarya rai, well just say she can cry better here. Madhuri dixit, oh well what that Goddess can't do? :)
Lavish set, great cinematography, nice music and brilliant cloths on the epic era. the only problem is the length, some people can't bare it. Sanjay leela bhansali the only director who i salute in Bollywood, superb!
Bought this one up because of the hype it's making and i love sci/fi. I like this movie, the basic concept of infertility is somehow depressing and disturbing, great cinematography, one of it's best i can say. but there is something about this one i can't say, i can't pick up the right wrong turn for this movie, was it because of left plot hole? or abrupt ending? or maybe horrendous acting from Clare Hope Ashitey?
I love Alfonso Cuaron work, he is like the next Guillermo del toro. he did good, but if the movie could be two hours long and more additional detail included, i would like it better.
Another thing that makes me pissed off, this movie is included in IMDB Top 250, i know that the list is irrelevant, but there are many other sci/fi movie that deserve it better; let's say.. Jurassic Park? Minority Report? Hellboy? and why the heck Juliane Moore accept this? she was only 30 minutes here?
Gran Torino is easily one of the most refreshing, simple yet underrated film from 2008.
Clint Eastwood said that this would be his last act in a movie, and what can i say; this is excellent!
His character is funny, witty, smart yet brave. His relationship with his sons and grand children seems real, and his mockery dialogue about 'Young Generation' is genius. Not to mention, the friendship/relationship between Walt and Tao (His Korean neighbor) is a fresh combination on screen, and it symbolize that he 'can' actually be close to somebody, and act like a compassion man.
The ending scene was predictable (I have seen it coming), but what's a better ending for movie like this?
It's a shame that this movie wasn't even nominated for Oscar, was it because of its Racial Slur? or outstanding witty dialogue? I can't understand it. we all agree that this movie beats other nominees.
Barber Martin: That'll be 10 bucks, Walt. Walt Kowalski: Jesus, what are you, half Jew?
