About Me
Though most of my lists are essential lists of Directors, Actors, years, decades, and genres, my list entitled "Box Office: 2008" is a blog of sorts that I will update on a weekly basis as the summer continues and more films become "blockbusters."

As I refine my taste, my ratings may shift, but I will attempt to defend my choice of rating for each movie.
MY RATINGS:
*****- A Perfect Masterpiece
****- A Great Film
***- An Enjoyable Movie
**1/2- Average, Fair, Mediocre
**- A Less Than Average
*- A Debacle
1/2- An Attrocity and lost time in my life that I can NEVER get back.

Transsiberian Transsiberian R 4.5 Stars
The Hitchcockian film of the year is full of intense emotion, top-notch acting, and enough honest moments to make sure that you feel like you could have been on the train ride, and make you know that you have felt some of the darkest emotions the characters experience.
The film begins as an innocent train ride to see central Asia, enjoy a love of trains and photography, and meet interesting people. The sweeping shots of Asia are desolately beautiful. The film takes a few sharp turns that you don't see coming and evolves into a piece about the dark side of human nature, ulterior motives, and the impact of hasty decisions. Like the train, these lives are moving swiftly in one direction, and nothing they can do can take them back or let them relive the same length of track.
Haunting, exhilarating, beautiful. Mortimer turns in the film's best performance and layers it with fascinating expertise.
Journey to the Center of the Earth (Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D) Journey to the Center of the Earth (Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D) PG 3.5 Stars
A clever, fun, adventurous updating of Verne's classic story. In this modern telling, Verne's story becomes a source of inspiration for the characters rather than the movie being an adaptation of the source material. This witty idea makes the film engaging, fresh and fun.
This is not a masterpiece, but includes enough adventure to keep you racing to the end.
Mystic River Mystic River R 5.0 Stars
A taut, intense film that has all of the white knuckle drama, deliberate pacing, and action of a classic Hitchcock. Penn, Robbins and Harden all got my picks for top honors. There are few Eastwood directed films I like, but this one proves he is a definite auteur. Simply put, a smooth, beautiful film.
The Incredible Hulk The Incredible Hulk PG-13 3.5 Stars
A well-made action/adventure, superhero movie. While this film departs drastically from the style of Ang Lee's film cinematically, story-wise, and superpower-wise, it also includes a few well-placed nods to the previous film that would suggest that this film is indeed a sequel, albeit a departure.
Edward Norton convincingly plays the troubled Banner who is trying to control his new-found strength when this film opens, and the remainder of the film is a search for redemption and cure.
Anyone familiar with Marvel's recent movies and the Hulk mythology will recognize the characters of Blonsky, the Rosses, and Tony Stark, but the film also weaves in Steve Rogers, Jack McGee, Jim Wilson, and Samuel Sterns to create this web of franchise possibilities and a fluid superhero world.
This film does move slowly, but when you think of it as the second film in a trilogy (or more), it becomes the methodical middle man that is building the story. And it includes some great visual effects!
The Visitor The Visitor PG-13 4.5 Stars
A story of rich character development and emotional interplay. 'The Visitor' continues director Thomas McCarthy's ('Station Agent') welcome fascination with people who have emotionally removed themselves from their own lives, becoming supporting characters in their own stories.
Richard Jenkins does a fabulous job expressing a largely internal part as a widower and unhappy professor who is awaiting the spark that makes life worth living. How and where he finds it could be something straight from a thriller, but it is crafted into an emotional drama that often times elicits big, welcome laughs.
This is really a story of finding what makes your life worth living before it is too late, and emotionally investing in it fully.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull PG-13 3.5 Stars
I have mulled it over, and I am disappointed in this film. It touts itself as a companion to one of the greatest trilogies of all time. While made to feel like those films, the story and screenplay suffer horrendously. Granted the great Lawrence Kasdan wrote the original, but the strength of his script and the script for 'Last Crusade' center on well known myth history and have well fleshed characters. Here, the respectable Blanchett, Broadbent, and Hurt are reduced to caricatures, plot points are taken to the unbelievable extreme (three waterfalls and nuke the fridge?!) and the central plot of the story centers on atheistic philosophy that seems to contradict the central theme, plot, and artifacts of 'Raiders' and 'Last Crusade.' I would be very interested in reading Frank Darabont's alternate script that Spielberg himself purportedly preferred.
Spielberg said he chose Russians as the villains because he could no longer comically/adventerously depict the Nazis. His love of all things extraterrestrial (see 'Close Encounters,' 'E.T.,' 'A.I.,' 'War of the Worlds') should have been saved for exploration elsewhere as well.
Ford and Allen do a great job of revitallizing the franchise, and Spielberg's legendary hand make the film very watchable and enjoyable, but this is definitely the third or fourth ranked film in this franchise.

The Godfather 1. The Godfather R 5.0 Stars
A perfect movie from beginning to end. Together with Godfather II, this is the greatest film ever made. It really is a life altering experience to experience a perfect movie in everything from the acting, to the directing, and the screenplay and score.
On the Waterfront 2. On the Waterfront Unrated 5.0 Stars
Definitely a contender! The controversial Kazan's career defining film of corruption, fear, and a cause worth fighting for. Remembered as one of Brando's best performances, but a strong script, cinematography and performances by Malden and Cobb give this film weight as one of history's greatest.
Kramer vs. Kramer 3. Kramer vs. Kramer PG 5.0 Stars
The classic family drama, unstopable winner of top Oscars. It is emotional, heartbraking and connects in a way that few movies can. These characters are your extended family; this story is one we ALL connect with no matter what your family dynamic.
The Godfather, Part II 4. The Godfather, Part II R 5.0 Stars
There are few movies that improve upon their predecessor, and I won't be the one to say that this one does, but it completes the perfection of the first.
The Shawshank Redemption 5. The Shawshank Redemption R 5.0 Stars
No matter how many times I watch this film, I am deeply affected in a way that few movies can. It infuses the perfect blend of suspense, emotion, comedy, friendship, despair, hope, and... redemption in a world that at first seems so devoid of anything positive. Freeman and Robbins play convicted murderers in performances that define both of their careers.
Singin' in the Rain 6. Singin' in the Rain G 5.0 Stars
If my life were a musical this would be its soundtrack. The greatest musical and a great love story. Life is filled with momentous transitions, and Kelly, Reynolds and O'Connor provide us with a bluprint of the friendship and optimism that must accompany them.

    My review:

Forrest Gump, while not intelligent, has accidentally been present at many historic moments, but his true love, Jenny, eludes him.

Forrest Gump is without a doubt the most inspiring film that I have ever seen. It almost broke my heart because of what happens within it. It is a film that I think everybody loves in either the funny way, dramatic way or romantic way but I love it all three ways. I find it to be a story of hope, courage and pure adventure because Forrest sees life in all sorts of different ways because of the events that occur in his life. This is an inpriation to me aswell bercause of the different sorts of characters and how they combine together in their own little ways. I find it to be a very thought provoking film because of the measures each other character takes. It makes me feel good because all of the characters within the film are just adorable and loving. I really love adventurous stories and Forrests life was an awesome experiencing life that was very eventful. Now that is the life. I do think that Forrests life is something that everybody would probably wish for because of the beautiful moments in his life and yet some of very light downs in his life at the same time. I do have to say that this film can almost be a film for the entire family but without the war violence and the extremely emotional story but it would be a good family film because of the loving Forrest Gump character and his adventures in his life until he meets the ultimate gift later on which literally made me cry and made me feel great because that is a moment of how I would feel. Forrest Gump is one of my Five Perfect Films.

Tom Hanks delivers in my personal opinion the best leading male performance of all time because I could see everything that Tom was meant to be in this film. This film along with The Green Mile, Tom Hanks is the most inspiring actor that has ever lived and is my favourite actor. Tom isnt only playing Forrest Gump but he IS Forrest Gump and its as simple as that. Tom showed that Forrest has a really big heart and a real open mind but is quite stubborn in his own way. Toms performance is really awesome too because Tom isnt like Forrest Gump at all in real life. He made Forrest like a real life person which is what not many talented actors actually accomplish in their careers. Tom made me feel great because he is really good at being able to cry in a film and because of that he made me cry because of his inspiring ways of portraying the character. Tom is really good at playing that romantic type too. After seeing him in Sleepless In Seattle, he is a really good romantic actor. I havent seen that yet but will see it very soon. Anyway, Tom has shown more emotion than he has ever done in any film he has ever been in before. That is one of the main reasons why I find Toms performance so great. He makes Forrest Gump a character that I would have liked to meet because he seems like a really sweet and warmhearted man. Robin Wright-Penns performance is really good as Jenny Curran. She is a really gorgeous woman but has a bad troubled childhood and also because of her complete drug addiction and prostitution. Because of this, it affects her life deeply but Forrest is there to help her when she comes to him. I could feel the love between Jenny and Forrest but also I could see what Jenny has over Forrest like the smarter mind. Gary Sinises performance is really good because he is an arrogant Lieutenant in the Army who loses his legs after being shot in the legs by Vietnamese soldiers. I do find Lieutenant Dan a really funny character aswell as a really emotional character because of the typical bitter and strict character involved. He brings a comedy side to the film when he is scenes with Forrest. Gary Sinise is really good at playing that sort of character with a bitter attitude as he did as George in Of Mice And Men remake. He deserved Oscar nomination aswell as Tom Hanks deserved his win very much. Mykelti Williamson brings comedy with Forrest is this film which is really great again. The comedy never stops and neither does the drama nor romance between any of the characters involved in the film. Mykelti was a typical Alabama man with a passion for shrimping. Sally Field is really supporting in this masterpiece as Mrs. Gump who is the mother of Forrest Gump. It is quite ironic with Sally Field and Tom Hanks because Field is only 10 years older than Hanks and she portrays his mother. He is like old enough in real life to be her younger brother. That was quite bizarre but was an outstanding connection between the two. She should have had an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. She deserves the credit for the female acting in this film more than Robin Wright-Penn even though she was still really good. The Sixth Sense star Haley Joel Osment makes a mild appearance in this film too.

Robert Zemeckis direction was absolutely superb. He didn?t just make a film that can tell the future of ones life but also one that can be seen and loved in different ways. It was a cool film aswell as an inspiring film. This is Zemeckis best work and always will be. The script was really awesome. I havent read the novel but it must be as good as the film surely. It is written in a different mixture of genres.

This film is very similar to films like Rain Man, I Am Sam and Whats Eating Gilbert Grape? because of the character within it with a disability but all are different at the same time because they all have different problems in different situations in different places. But they all do have a meaning to what life can be like in different aspects.

The chemistry between Forrest and Jenny is in Forrests mind love at first sight because he fell for her at the first moment he saw her. In Jennys mind, it was really like friendship to begin with but when she needed Forrest in her desperate times because of her drug addiction and prostitution, she slowly started to fall in love with him. They are still best friends aswell though. Forrest and Dans relationship was unknown at first because they didnt know each other very well but when something happens to Dan, they become almost like best friends and talk to each other about each others problems and help each other. I find it to be the best partnership within the film. Forrest and Bubba almost became best friends since they first met because they were with each other all the time in the Army. Dan sort of takes that place after Bubba dies in the Army.

The art direction was really good in this film with a very casual scenery with a typical American style to it. The cinematography is a lot like that aswell with very cleverly used photography. The make-up is good on this film particularly in the war scenes. The music score was very soft with a lot of emotional music but with quite an upbeat tone to it. The sound effects were outstanding in the war scenes but also in the impactful and twisting scenes that occur in the film. Most of all the qualities, the visual effects are the best. They are mostly best on Lieutenant Dans missing legs even though Gary Sinise has legs in real life. Those visual effects with the missing legs look so realistic, it is untrue.

This film won 6 Academy Awards: Best Leading Actor (Tom Hanks), Best Director (Robert Zemeckis), Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Film Editing, Best Visual Effects and most importantly Best Picture 1994 by beating two films that are more famous than Forrest Gump. Those two films were Pulp Fiction and The Shawshank Redemption. It was nominated for Best Supporting Actor (Gary Sinise) but lost to Martin Landau in Ed Wood, Best Cinematography but lost to Legends Of The Fall, Best Art Direction but lost to The Madness Of King George, Best Sound Mixing but lost to Speed, Best Sound Editing but lost to Speed, Best Make-Up but lost to Ed Wood and Best Music Score but lost to The Lion King. This won 3 Golden Globes including Best Director (Robert Zemeckis), Best Actor Drama (Tom Hanks) and Best Picture Drama. It was nominated for Best Supporting Actor (Gary Sinise) but lost to Martin Landau in Ed Wood, Best Supporting Actress (Robin Wright-Penn) but lost to Dianne Wiest in Bullets Over Broadway, Best Screenplay but lost to Pulp Fiction and Best Music Score but lost to The Lion King.

This is Robert Zemeckis finest work to date. I think it will always be my favourite film from him. It is my favourite film from the 1990s and favourite film of 1994 after that was a great year for film. It is Tom Hanks best film and it always will be. I love him in The Green Mile and Saving Private Ryan too. It is my favourite drama film, my favourite inspiring film and most importantly, its in my top 5 films of all time and one of My Five Perfect Films.

I love this film to bits. It is a film that made me cry and not many films do that. It was the pure beauty of it not only because of the drama that occurs. Forrest Gump truly is a loving masterpiece that I think could be worth a family film.

The absolute monarch of the spy genre is back with a kick ass look and feel, fucking live and let die on speed!
An orgy of 007 universe that barely lets us breath. It shakes and stirs Bond canon but also keeps Bond psyche as the core of the story, expanding his arc, continuing to show his crusade, and the ferocious battle against himself and everybody else who dares to get in his way. Marc Forster wisely injects art-house feel to it, and Daniel Craig proves he is the best right behind Sir Sean.
Bond's world is upside down and the movie is done that same way; a cold blooded assassin's journey to recover sanity.

    My review:

An uncommonly gentle young man, who happens to have scissors for hands, falls in love with a beautiful teenage girl.

Edward Scissorhands is a film that has made me feel pleasure and inspiration within life. It is one of the wierdest Tim Burton films but it is weird enough for it to be real because Edward is like a really beautiful character to watch. It is a weird film with obviously fictional characteristics but with a heartbreaking meaning to the film. It is Tim Burtons most emotional film so far. It made me feel great because of the pure magic and of what Edward can actually do with himself especially when he lives all alone in a castle above a small town. It is just so magical when Edward is cutting things into shapes especially ice that turns into snow. Love the scene where he is cutting ice in the garden and while he is doing it Kim comes out and sort of relaxes in the snow. That is just like heaven. This film is an inspiration to me because it teaches me no matter what someone looks like it is more about their personality and who they really are. Despite of how romantic and dramatic this film is, this film is absolutely hilarious.

Johnny Depp delivers an absolutely awesome performance as Edward Scissorhands. His performance is a performance which is very unlike Johnny really because Johnny hasnt really portrayed any soft, loving characters before. People love Johnny in this film for many reasons but one of the main ones is because he is only in his late 20s early 30s in this film and is quite good looking. Johnnys hair, costume and make-up totally suited him. As much as I simply adored his performance in this film, I do have to say I like Johnny more as Sweeney Todd and Jack Sparrow then Edward Scissorhands. Winona Ryders performance is good as Kim. Her acting is good when she is sort of bewildered and intimidated by Edward but I dont think it is very good when she starts to fall in love with Edward. Her words were for some reason quite weak but she did cry in a few scenes which looked real. I did like her more in this than Beetlejuice. Dianne Wiest was really good in this film too. She was a really good mother to Edward even though Edward is a grown man. She could have been better but she was still good though.

Tim Burton directs this film ever so well because this is a story that he has thought of himself. It was really well filmed, written and directed by Tim Burton only from his imagination. Its like Tims very own story. I am really inspired that Tim chose to just use his head to make it instead of writing a novel of it and then making a film adaptation afterwards. As I said, it was really well written from a mans head without a novel to help. Also, it is a fantasy story which makes it quite a bit harder. For a film like this, I do honestly think that Burton deserved an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay or should have at least been close.

This is typical Tim Burton because of the bizarreness of the story and the characters but it is quite different compared to some others because it is a very emotional and both heartwarming and heartbreaking aswell which is unlike Tim Burton. I think that is one of the reasons Sweeney Todd and Edward Scissorhands are my two favourite Tim Burton films: because they are both emotional stories. All of Johnny Depps characters in Tim Burton films are all different. A soft, kind unfinished invention, a crap moviemaker, a New York police officer turned scientist, a chocolatier, an engaged man, a serial killer barber and a hyper nutty man with a lust of cups of tea. The one character that I find sort of similar compared to other characters Johnny has portrayed in Tim Burtons films is probably Victor Van Dort.

I would say that Edward Scissorhands is most similar to Beetlejuice because they are both stories that are inside Tim Burtons mind and also they are both the wierdest ones that Tim has done. It is like Tim has done films that combine two films together that are similar to each other. For example, Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands, Batman and Batman Returns, Ed Wood and Big Fish, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride, Planet Of The Apes and Mars Attacks!, Charlie And The Chocolate Factory and the upcoming Alice In Wonderland and lastly Sleepy Hollow and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street. Whoever is reading this, I hope you get what I mean. If you watch them all then you will see. But Edward Scissorhands is a film that hasnt been matched compared to its weirdness since when it was released.

The chemistry between Edward and Kim is at first a shy and uncomfortable relationship because they dont know each other. Neither of them has ever seen the other like that before especially when they first meet and then after that. But she starts to fall in love with Edward because of how sweet he is and how comfortable he has made the family. Their relationship in a slight way reminds me a bit of Beast and Belles relationship in Beauty And The Beast apart from that Edward was never nasty to Kim whereas Beast was to Belle before they fell in love.

The costume design was typical Tim Burton again on Edward Scissorhands. It was really dark and then he wore casual male clothes with a white shirt and grey trousers and even those suited him. Johnnys wig for Edward was very good aswell. It looked dead real and was a style that Tim Burton used and hasnt really used that sort of hair for one of his films since then. The only hair I can think of that is sort of similar is Johnny Depps hair in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street. I thought that Johnny Depps make make-up as Edward was quite similar to Jack Nicholsons Joker make-up. It was mostly the white make-up more than anything else. It looked real especially with Edwards scars across his face.

This film was nominated for one Academy Award: Best Make-Up but lost to Dick Tracy. This film was also nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor Musical Comedy (Johnny Depp) but lost to Gérard Depardieu in Green Card. This won 1 BAFTA and was nominated for 3 other nominations: It won Best Production Design. However, it was nominated for Best Costume Design but lost to Cyrano De Bergerac, Best Special Visual Effects but lost to Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Best Make Up Artist but lost to Cyrano De Bergerac.

This is my second favourite Tim Burton film after Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street. Five of Tim Burtons films are on my favourite films list. It is my third favourite Johnny Depp film after Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street and Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl. It is on the list for one of my most inspiring films. Edward Scissorhands is one of my favourite fantasy films and romantic films of all time. It is my favourite film of 1990. It is one of my top films of all time too. An unusual masterpiece from an unusual director Tim Burton which is great!! Always have loved this film and always will.

    My review:

A story about a son trying to learn more about his dying father by reliving stories and myths his father told him about himself.

Big Fish was really knocked around at the start before it was released because it is a film from Tim Burton which is really bright and heartwarming which isnt really like him. Also because there wasnt any actors involved in this film who have been in a film with Tim Burton before apart from Helena Bonham Carter and Danny DeVito. I thought that at first but when I saw this film, I was totally blown away by how beautiful this film really is. I think the odds of the success of this film at first were against Tim because of how different this film is. But some people state that this film is his best film. People would choose either Big Fish, Sweeney Todd, Edward Scissorhands, Sleepy Hollow, Beetlejuice or Ed Wood. This film made me feel really good because of its beautiful story and its inspiring characters within it. It also had a very cute meaning because it tought me what life really is about which is what a lot of films have tought me. It is a heartwarming fairy tale that is complex for a family film and is very creative and magical. This is inside Tim Burtons imagination just like Edward Scissorhands. I am unsure whether than fantasy place where Bloom went where he met that giant Karl and met a few other characters was in his imagination or really happening. That is why I have to say that this is Tim Burtons most complex film so far.

Ewan McGregors performance as young Ed Bloom was really good. His acting was like Ed was confused with the fantasy world and the illusion he was involved in with himself. Albert Finneys performance was awesome! It was the best from the whole film. He really do anything wrong at all with his acting. He did look like a really adorable heartwarming actor to portray a character like that. He looks like Ewan McGregor aswell so thats another reason why. Albert was snubbed of an Oscar nomination. Personally, I think that when there are scenes with Ewan as Bloom and Albert as Bloom, they are obviously the same character but I do find for some reason them both to be portraying different sorts of characters. Billy Crudup was really good too as Will Bloom because he makes him act like more of a curious yet passionate character than I was expecting he was going to be. Jessica Lange was really good aswell as elder Sandra Bloom. Helena Bonham Carters second collaboration with partner Tim Burton was a far better one than their previous film together which was Planet Of The Apes. I find Jennys character a very mysterious character because she has always had a little crush on Ed Bloom ever since she was a little girl. Also, because of why she is so lonely, why she always has her cats with her and also why she lived in a random house in the woods. That is why I think Helena was really good for her character. I found the witch character quite a confusing character to calculate because I didnt really understand what was with her eye. I did think that maybe it could tell the future. The costume on Helena was really good which made her look similar to Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street. But make-up on her for the witch was obviously very good but didnt look anything like Mrs. Lovett. Steve Buscemi was really good in this film as Norther Winslow. He makes me laugh all time which is why I think Steve Buscemi deserves to be a character like Norther Winslow because he was a humourous character to witness. Danny DeVito made me laugh aswell as he always does aswell as circus ringmaster Amos Calloway. I liked Alison Lohman as young Sandra Bloom and also Oscar winner Marion Cotillard as Will Blooms pregnant wife Josephine.

Tim Burtons direction in Big Fish is in a lot of ways typical from Tim but in a different way it is a new way of direction from Tim Burton. Tim Burton has made this film his second most heartwarming film after Edward Scissorhands. Also, he made Big Fish his brighest (brightly coloured) film yet. As I said, I think the odds were against Tim with the success of this film because of how bright this film really is. There is a lot of bright colours involved especially when Bloom enters that land where there is bright lights, beautiful houses and really nice people. In a slight way at the same time, I find that like typical Tim Burton because it is like a setting and a film that a guy is in an extremely bizzare sort of illusion with himself and his life.

It was like overrated because obviously its Tim Burton but can be underrated too because it is a Tim Burton film that not many people really appreciate because of its bright characters. The script was awesome aswell. This film is a novel but if it was without the fantasy world, the giant and the business with Bloom and the large fish then this would have been an excellent life story. It is a script that tries to revolutionise the meaning of life. But it does try and beat other previous classic films that try and show us what life really is about. Still a class script though.

This film was obviously very different compared to other Tim Burton films like Beetlejuice, Batman, Edward Scissorhands, Sleepy Hollow, Charlie And The Chocolate Factory and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street. But this is Tim Burtons most brightly coloured film with brightly hearted characters since Pee Wees Big Adventure which I have yet to see. At first, I didnt think I would like it. I was right the first time I saw it but when I did watch it for the second time, I thought why didnt I like it before?. Ed Blooms character is like a whole new type of character that is the first time to witness.

The chemistry between Ed Bloom and Sandra is obviously real love. It was love at first sight when Bloom witnesses Sandra in the circus. I could feel the love between Finney as Ed and Lange as Sandra but I couldnt really between McGregor as Ed and Lohman as Sandra because it felt more like an obsession from Ed than instant love. Eds relationship with Jenny is friendship at first but Jenny has always had love feelings for Ed but Ed is obviously with his wife Sandra. The friendship between Ed Bloom and giant Karl was obviously a hard relationship because Karl is far bigger because hes a giant but Karl does try and teach Ed about himself.

The art direction was superb which is half typical Burton but half non Burton which is really new. The costumes were sort of quite like period dramas like Pride And Prejudice, Atonement, Titanic and more. The music was awesome once again from Danny Elfman as he never seems to disappoint. It was very heartwarming and very emotional. The visual effects were really good on the large fish and also on the large giant Karl too. It really looked like a real person and the fish looked like a real fish of a rare type too.

This film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Score for Danny Elfman but lost to The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King. It was robbed for Oscar nominations like Best Supporting Actor (Albert Finney) and Best Art Direction. It would have been nominated for Best Picture if it was nominated for an acting nomination, directing nomination and writing nomination. It was nominated for four Golden Globe nominations: Best Picture Musical/Comedy but lost to Lost In Translation, Best Supporting Actor (Albert Finney) but lost to Tim Robbins in Mystic River, Best Song (Man Of The Hour) but lost to Into The West in The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King and Best Original Score but lost to The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King.

This is my favourite Albert Finney film so far. I sort of liked Ewan McGregor in this film but I prefer his acting in Moulin Rouge!, Trainspotting the prequel Star Wars trilogy and The Island. I loved Helena Bonham Carter in this film too as Jenny but I prefer her in Sweeney Todd obviously. Danny DeVito and Steve Buscemi made me laugh in this film too and their performances were really good aswell. I did love this film from Tim Burton obviously but I prefer Burton films Sweeney Todd, Edward Scissorhands and Sleepy Hollow. Big Fish is a masterpiece and a masterpiece that should have been nominated for Best Picture. That is where I find this film like Sweeney Todd because they are both films that have been snubbed from the Best Picture Oscar nominations. They are the only two Tim Burton films that have ever been close. I dont think Tim Burton will ever make another brightly charactered film like this ever again. If he does then it cant be better than Big Fish because Big Fish is a masterpiece and is one of the best films of 2003. That is where it deserves its place in my favourite films list.

    Noise Noise
    4.0 Stars by Danielle
David Owen (Tim Robbins) appears to lead a normal life: married, with one child and a well-paid job; he is, initially at least, quite unremarkable. But David leads a double life. Sick of the constant noise that engulfs New York City, David becomes "The Rectifier," breaking into any car whose alarm goes off, disabling the alarm and leaving a calling card under the hood. David's crusade draws opposition from the mayor and, as his campaign against noise escalates, causes tension in his marriage. Sharply written and funny. Everyone hates those damn things, so there's a certain amount of joy to be had in simply watching Robbins dish out old fashion vigilante justice on the cars of jerks with out of control noisemakers. But there's more to Noise than Robbins and a pair of wire-cutters. Writer/director Henry Bean attempts to subtly tackle the larger issue of humanity's tendency simply to put up with injustices through David's noise reduction mission. David's obsession is a fascinating one, with implications beyond the narrow world of noise he's focused on. Unfortunately the movie doesn't always stay focused on David and when it takes side trips into courtroom scenes or backroom political maneuvering among politicians it loses steam. Bean seems less sure of himself when he's dealing with the forces arrayed against his main character, and whenever Robbins isn't on screen Noise suffers.

    My review:

An alien orphan is sent from his dying planet to Earth, where he grows up to become his adoptive home's first and greatest super-hero.

This was really thrilling. It is the first official superhero film and that is why it is called the classic superhero film. I did really like this film but I dont really like Superman/Clark Kents character because he isnt only a hero but he doesnt really have a personal slide in his personality like heroes like Batman and Spider-Man have. I dont think the name nor costume are catchy at all but I did like this film though.

Christopher Reeve delivers a descent performance as Clark Kent/Superman. After seeing this and Superman Returns, I do think that Christopher Reeve is better than Brandon Routh as Superman. He was a really big man with a heroic style which was almost perfect for Superman. Gene Hackman certainly makes a better portrayal of Lex Luthor than Kevin Spacey does because Hackman is really good at playing that sort of character. Spacey is good as a villain aswell. I think that both of their villainous characters in the past have been really evil. It was a battle of two different characters in two different films played by those two actors but as villains: Gene Hackman in his Oscar winning performance in Unforgiven and Kevin Spacey in his Oscar winning performance in The Usual Suspects. Marlon Brando made me laugh in this film because I have never seen him before with white hair and also I have seen him looking really old (The Godfather), really young (A Streetcar Named Desire, On The Waterfront) and bald (Apocalypse Now). It is quite strange to see Marlon Brando in a superhero film but he will be remembered really well for being in this first ever superhero film along with his other previous films. Margot Kidder was a better Lois Lane than Kate Bosworth was.

Richard Donner wasn?t really a well known director before he directed this film. He was well known after doing the first two Superman films and the four Lethal Weapon films and The Goonies too. I personally thought that Bryan Singers direction in Superman Returns. The script was good. It is like the Batman (1989) of Superman films.

Superman Returns is like a remake of this film because obviously it involves Lex Luthor in the same sort of storyline and also because of his love relationship with Lois Lane. This is another example of a film that sets a new level of a genre. This film does of science fiction along with Star Wars, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Alien, The Terminator and Solaris (1972).

The chemistry between Lex Luthor and Superman is the sort of relationship that is quite similar to Batman and the Jokers relationship because they both try and fight each other but also Lex gets into Supermans personal life just like the Joker does with Batman particularly in The Dark Knight. Lois and Clarks relationship is like Bruce and Rachels relationship but I find Bruce and Rachels relationship more powerful and better acted too. I liked Jor-El and Clark/Supermans relationship because they are father and son and are both like superheroes. I find it quite similar to Dr. Henry Jones Sr. and Dr. Henry Indiana Jones Jr.

The sound effects were absolutely outstanding that can make your heart pound fast. The music was outstanding too with a lot of touching and yet thrilling music with a lot of clever notes used within the score. It was awesome from John Williams who did the music of the Star Wars saga, Indiana Jones quadrilogy, War Of The Worlds, Memoirs Of A Geisha, Schindlers List, Jaws and Home Alone 1 and 2.

This film was nominated for 3 Academy Awards: Best Sound (lost to The Deer Hunter), Best Film Editing (lost to The Deer Hunter) and Best Original Score (lost to Midnight Express). It was nominated for a Golden Globe Award too: Best Original Score (lost to Midnight Express).

This disappointed me a bit because I thought it was quite a slow story and went on for a bit too long just like Superman Returns did. I think it is the late Christopher Reeves best film of the ones I have seen from him so far. An awesome Gene Hackman film but liked his acting more in Unforgiven. I really liked the late Marlon Brando in this one but my least favourite performance of the ones I have seen of him so far. I dont really like Superman but this is the best of the franchise of the ones I have seen so far and will probably be the best of them all.

I dont really like Superman but this is the best of the franchise of the ones I have seen so far and will probably be the best of them all. I prefer Batman way way way way more!!! But this film is an entertaining classic.

    My review:

A tragic film covering a young boy and his little sister's struggle to survive in Japan during World War II.

Grave Of The Fireflies truly is one of the most powerful animated films ever made. It is a film that shows us all what love really is. It tells an heroic and yet tragic tale of a young teenage boy who looks after his little sister during World War II. There havent been that many animated films that havent been half as emotional as this film was. This is the second most emotional non-Disney animated film after Shrek. This film made me feel really proud of myself because I have a little sister who is only 3 years old and it showed me how I can look after her. So, I have to say that this is one of the biggest inspirations to me. It is a story that a lot of people love because of the story and also of how affective it can be to peoples lives in general. Also, it is a film that can break peoples hearts because of the atmosphere of the film and what actually happens within it.

This film was well directed but I was hoping that it would be directed by Hayao Miyazaki. But it was still a good direction from Isao Takahata. The script was good aswell because it truly seemed like a very heartfelt and epic animated fairy tale aswell.

I would say that this is very similar to Miyazakis animated films because they are obviously animés. As far as live aciton war films are concerned, this one is quite similar to Life Is Beautiful because of an older close relative looking after a child apart from that it is brother looking after sister in Grave Of The Fireflies and father looking after son in Life Is Beautiful but they have quite a similar sort of meaning to it.

The chemistry between Sensuko and Senita was adorable because obviously all brothers and sister argue in real life but in this one, it shows that they can get along really well at times. It sort of helped me with my relationship with my 15 year old sister which is great.

This was just so heartwarming without any violence, sex nor bad language. It shows us beauty aswell as the horror of WWII that is really was. It shows beauty of discovering about themselves.

The animated effects were superb indeed which reached over my expectations because there werent really any animé films in the 1980s. This is like the start of great animated films. This is my second favourite animé film after Miyazakis Spirited Away. Masterpiece!!

    My review:

Tricked into thinking he killed his father, a guilt ridden lion cub flees into exile and abandons his identity as the future King.

I dont really know how to explain how much I loved this film. Well, I can say that this film is such an inspiration to me and makes me feel really great. It is a film with a great big heart. It is a very heartbreaking film but it is such a beautiful story that can inspire people in quite a few different ways. It is the most emotional film of all the Disney Classics that there have been which is one of the main reasons why I have to say that this film is one of the best animated films out there. It is a pure adventure about courage, hope, betrayal, tragedy and most importantly self discovery. I would probably say that this is the only Disney Classic with the genre drama used in it because of what happens and everything. I think everything about it inspires me an hell of a lot. I feel that this is one of the particular four films that Walt Disney would have been proud of if he was still here. Others are The Little Mermaid, Beauty And The Beast and Aladdin.

The voices were all fantastic in this film. I didnt really like Matthew Brodericks voice for Simba (adult) because he doesnt really make Simba a very heroic character because of his soft voice but Simba is still a heroic character though because he truly discovers about who he really is. I loved James Earl Jones voice as Mufasa because after doing the voice of legendary character Darth Vader, his voice was prefect for Mufasa. His voice is obviously extremely deep which is really rare for a man to have a voice that deep. It is perfect for Mufasa because Mufasa is a big heroic lion and looks a lot bigger compared to other animals within the kingdom. His voice was a bizarre one really for Mufasa because not only is Mufasa a hero and Darth Vader is a villain but because Mufasa is a completely different character compared to Darth Vader. I loved Jeremy Irons voice as Scar in this one because his voice is a real sinister and scheming voice which is just like Scars character. I think that Scar isnt just the coldest Disney villain but I also think that he is one of the greatest film villains of all time because he killed his own brother and then blamed his nephew for it. I really liked the voices of Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Niketa Calame, Moira Kelly, Nathan Lane, Ernie Sabella, Rowan Atkinson, Madge Sinclair, Robert Guillaume, Whoopi Goldberg, Cheech Marin and Jim Cummings as the voices of the rest of the cast within this animated classic.

The direction from Rob Minkoff was awesome which makes The Lion King was like an epic animated film which is probably the first of all animated films that have been made. The script was outstanding too with a lot of quotes with big meanings and with a big heart as I have said. There are a lot of scenes within this film that are taken almost to complete perfection.

This is different compared to all of the other Disney Classics. That is because it is an extremely emotional story that becomes very personal and goes into greater depth than just a magical story like all the others have. The only way that it is similar compared to the others that it is just pure magic with a heartwarming and yet heartbreaking story.

The chemistry between Simba and Mufasa is just pure beauty because Mufasa teaches Simba right from wrong and raises him not only as his son but like his protége too because he is the heir to the throne after Mufasa dies. He teaches Simba about how to catch prey and how to defend himself. The relationship between Simba and Scar is bitter hate and jealousy from Scar towards Simba but Simba feels that Scar loves him but he really doesnt at all. It is so cold from Scar to blame Simba for what happened to Mufasa. There were only two scenes where Scar and Mufasa appear together and that was when Mufasa visited Scar and asked why he couldnt see Simba when he was born and then the stampede scene aswell just a few seconds before Mufasa was murdered by Scar.

The sound mixing was outstanding. There were some scenes that the sound reminded me of some epic action scenes. The most epic scene with best sound from this film was the stampede scene with the awesome sound and music. The best thing about this film and is probably the best thing about every Disney film was the music score used. It is really like opera music but music that comes from all sorts of musical instruments. The music was suspensful, beautiful and was very heartbreaking at the same time which is what Disney Classics are really about.

This film won 2 Academy Awards out of four nominations. It won Best Original Score and Best Song (Can You Feel The Love Tonight). It was nominated for two other awards. They were both also for Best Song (Hakuna Matata and Circle Of Life) but lost to itself with different song. It should have had an Oscar nomination for Best Sound. It won three Golden Globe Awards: Best Picture (Musical/Comedy), Best Original Score and Best Song (Can You Feel The Love Tonight) but was nominated for Best Song aswell for the song Circle Of Life but lost to itself again with a different song.

The Lion King has its rightful place on my all time favourite animated films list. It is on my favourite films list to. Theres no question about that. It is one of the best animated musicals of all time. It is one of the best films of 1994. 1994 was an outstanding year for films as it brought out some of the greatest films of all time including The Lion King, Forrest Gump, Pulp Fiction, The Shawshank Redemption, Léon: The Professional and many more. I always have and certainly always will adore the Disney Classics but The Lion King is my fifth favourite Disney Classic after Pinocchio, Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs, Aladdin and Lady And The Tramp. The Lion King is the third highest grossing film of all time (both worldwide and domestically) behind Shrek 2 and Finding Nemo. It truly is a family phenomenon that I can guarentee that everybody loves to bits and will remain in your heart for the rest of your life.

    My review:

Ellie Andrews has just tied the knot with society aviator King Westley when she is whisked away to her father's yacht and out of King's clutches. Ellie jumps ship and eventually winds up on a bus headed back to her husband. Reluctantly she must accept the help of out-of- work reporter Peter Warne. Actually, Warne doesn't give her any choice: either she sticks with him until he gets her back to her husband, or he'll blow the whistle on Ellie to her father. Either way, Peter gets what (he thinks!) he wants .... a really juicy newspaper story.

This film was very heartwarming in my opinion because I believe it shows true character. I find that it is a film with a really big heart and a big meaning to life and what it really means. It is one of those films that is just a classic that can touch people in a romantic way, a funny way and also an emotional way too as it did for me. To me, It Happened One Night is one of the best romantic comedies ever made and is probably the first of all romantic comedies out there. It almost has the great qualities to become a family film.

Clark Gable delivers an outstanding performance as Peter Warne. One thing that I love about Clark Gable is that in every single film he has been in, he has always brought that charm to every character he has portrayed. Rhett Butler is another character that he is like this. He makes some of his characters have very similar sort of personalities especially with women. He is like an irrisitable actor. But Clarks performance doesnt beat Rhett Butler in Gone With The Wind at all. Claudette Colbert is really good in this film too as Ellie Andrews. I thought that her character and her looks were a bit like Gloria Swanson as Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard because she was a bitter character and was quite a half attractive and half ugly character too.

The direction from Frank Capra was absolutely outstanding. He has done some great films in the past that are really heartwarming and beautiful. After seeing Its A Wonderful Life and It Happened One Night, he is now on the list of one of my favourite directors. I think he is the director for inspiration. The script was really clever because I thought that this film was really funny and it was really cleverly written to make it not only the first but probably the best romantic comedy of all time.

I really dont know what romantic comedies this film is similar to. I suppose that most of them are different but this is a masterpiece of them. There have been a lot of romantic comedies that have been released very recently but have been pieces of crap but the slightly older and classic romantic comedies are the best. My favourite romantic comedy is Pretty
