The Godfather (1972,  R)
The Godfather 5.0 Stars
A perfect movie from beginning to end. Together with Godfather II, this is the greatest film ever made. It really is a life altering experience to experience a perfect movie in everything from the acting, to the directing, and the screenplay and score.

On the Waterfront (1954,  Unrated)
On the Waterfront 5.0 Stars
Definitely a contender! The controversial Kazan's career defining film of corruption, fear, and a cause worth fighting for. Remembered as one of Brando's best performances, but a strong script, cinematography and performances by Malden and Cobb give this film weight as one of history's greatest.

Kramer vs. Kramer (1979,  PG)
Kramer vs. Kramer 5.0 Stars
The classic family drama, unstopable winner of top Oscars. It is emotional, heartbraking and connects in a way that few movies can. These characters are your extended family; this story is one we ALL connect with no matter what your family dynamic.

The Godfather, Part II 5.0 Stars
There are few movies that improve upon their predecessor, and I won't be the one to say that this one does, but it completes the perfection of the first.

The Shawshank Redemption (1994,  R)
The Shawshank Redemption 5.0 Stars
No matter how many times I watch this film, I am deeply affected in a way that few movies can. It infuses the perfect blend of suspense, emotion, comedy, friendship, despair, hope, and... redemption in a world that at first seems so devoid of anything positive. Freeman and Robbins play convicted murderers in performances that define both of their careers.

Singin' in the Rain (1952,  G)
Singin' in the Rain 5.0 Stars
If my life were a musical this would be its soundtrack. The greatest musical and a great love story. Life is filled with momentous transitions, and Kelly, Reynolds and O'Connor provide us with a bluprint of the friendship and optimism that must accompany them.

Why? Because it is unflinching in its depiction of atrocity, and still manages to make you care about and pray for the humanity we hope still exists in the world.

12 Angry Men (Twelve Angry Men) 5.0 Stars
A timeless story of greed, vengance and personal prejudices that is escalated by the confined space, tight script, and amazing performances. The theme will outlast any of us, and will keep reoccuring from generation to generation.

Life Is Beautiful (La Vita è bella) (1998,  PG-13)
Life Is Beautiful (La Vita è bella) 5.0 Stars
This sensational war film is the movie definition of hope. The story extracts laughter from one of the most tragic moments in history, and evokes tears in its raw humanity and... inhumanity.

*Roberto Benigni, My Best Actor of 1998.

Filled with charm, elegance, and wit. Astaire and Rogers are fabulous as two destined loves separated by mistaken identity. A great musical comedy!

A rare film about politics, a frightening epidemic, and love lost. This was my first Bette Davis film. She was both enchanting and frightening in what is perhaps one of the first spitfire perfomances. Davis's portrayal of Julie is timeless.
