| Pontypool - PG |
I think that due to the fact everyone said it was too slow and/or boring helped me prepare for it. Alot of the same people said the same thing about House of the Devil that I just watched before this and I quite enjoyed that so I decided to give it a try.
Again it seems I seem to be in the minority because I quite liked the claustrophobic feel and the slow build up of tension and anarchy that came through from incoming phone calls to the radio station. I guess it also helped that I've worked in a broadcast for a few years and could better identify with both the setting and the characters working in a low budget radio show. Another big plus is Stephen McHattie who creates an instantly likeable, grumpy rebellious DJ and without him I don't believe the film would have worked as well as it did considering the really out there but highly original "virus" story. And then there's the ending. The very, very post credits ending that I thought was just the icing on the cake. Many people have different opinions about what it meant and personally I think mine's the best. |

| The House of the Devil - R |
A slow simple tale of a babysitter having a really bad night that builds up to a nicely violent and bloody climax. Some movies attempt to imitate the 80's flavor (or lightly spoof it) but this one lovingly captures the best of that time dead on in every way. I swear it feels, looks and sounds like it came straight out of 1980. I'm not of a fan of Ti West's previous films but this one has made me take notice and see him in a different light.
If you only see one babysitter movie this year then see this devilishly good time. |

| Funny People - R |
I watched the unrated version which is obscenely long--2hrs 33min and didn't mind it at bit. More humorous than outright funny but the whole cast pulls their weight and makes another winner in my book.
Hell I even enjoyed the music which is a rarity for me and comedies. Like the rest of Apatow's stuff I will be buying this one too. |

| Mad Max - R | December 2, 2009 | N/A | ||||
| Babysitter Wanted - R | Features more stingers than all of the Halloween movies combined. Its a silly mish-mash of horror cliches but there's enough energy and blood to keep the film from sinking into full-suck territory. | November 28, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Angels & Demons - PG-13 | November 28, 2009 | N/A | ||||
| Land of the Lost - PG-13 | Officially the worst theatrical release of the year. Year One was funnier than this wretched rape of the no budget cheesefest I watched in reruns when I was little. | November 28, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Shorts (Shorts: The Adventures of the Wishing Rock) - PG | November 28, 2009 | N/A | ||||
| G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra - PG-13 | November 28, 2009 | N/A | ||||
| All the Boys Love Mandy Lane - R |
A well made though rather routine offering that fits nicely between teen slasher and thriller. There's nothing really new here by way of plot or presentation but the film works anyway mainly due to a solid performance from Heard and Welch and director Levine takes worn horror cliches and puts a slight, interesting spin on them.
All in all not great but well worth a look for those searching for a new-gen slasher. Fair warning: there is an appropritae level of violence in this BUT understand this is not a gorefest. My main problem is something Lurple has already said best, "...the ending of this movie could really have used a little more background explanation." And he's right because there just wasn't enough there to justify what has transpired for the last hour or so. Oh well, at least it doesn't ruin the film so that's always a good thing. |

| The Lovely Bones - PG-13 | November 22, 2009 | N/A | ||||
| Ne le Dis à Personne (Tell No One) - Unrated | Methodical Hitchcockian mystery/thriller that delivers in all departments and makes 2 hours of twisty-turny intrigue fly by. Enjoyably satisfying and highly recommended. | November 22, 2009 | N/A | |||
| La Casa 3 (Ghosthouse) - Unrated | So-so Italian effort that's appropriately cheesy but not gory enough to be considered good. It does have it's moments but you'd just expect more from a director like Lenzi. | November 22, 2009 | N/A | |||
| The Burning Moon - Unrated |
Sooner or later every horror fan runs out of things worth watching and has to resort to scraping the bottom of the barrel (like I've been doing the last few weeks). This is where you'll find amateur self-proclaimed filmmakers like Jörg Buttgereit (the execrable Nekromantik movies) or Fred Vogel (August Underground) and Olaf Ittenbach.
The difference it seems with Ittenbach is that unlike his infamous counterparts he seems to actually want to make a movie and not just resort to cheap shock value. That is not to say Burning Moon is worth a flip because its most definitely not. Other than some ok gore and a really insane version of Hell near the end everything else is third rate. It's an ok introduction to Ittenbach and I plan on watching something more recent of his to see if he has gotten any better and can graduate him from Vogal, Buttgereit and the rest of their cesspool. Until then--to be continued. |

| Cruel Jaws (The Beast) - Unrated |
Bruno Mattei has never been known for originality but this one takes the cake as it not only rips off ideas from Jaws but actually uses scenes from it...AND the sequels...AND it's older cousins, The Last Shark and Deep Blood.
The only fun here though is trying to figure out which scene came from which film otherwise its a dull, eye rolling waste of time. |

| Fritt vilt II (Cold Prey 2) - Unrated | Far, far superior sequel that gets everything right the first one failed at: likeable characters, some bloody deaths and most importantly, suspense. | November 15, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Oneechanbara: The Movie (Chanbara Beauty) - Unrated | November 15, 2009 | N/A | ||||
| I Sell the Dead - Unrated | A highly enjoyable oddball indie about two bumbling grave robbers and their encounters with the supernatural. The humor is somewhat hit and miss (which is pretty common for a black comedy) and a few of the British cast is unintelligible but these are small nitpicky complaints compared to what does work which is practically everything else most notably its game cast, a witty and original story and convincing sets and costumes. | November 14, 2009 | N/A | |||
| The Incredible Melting Man - R | A deserving cult classic that is a goofy, cheesy and melty good time. | November 13, 2009 | N/A | |||
