| The Last Horror Film (Fanatic) (Fanatical Extreme) - R |
Spinell is creepy as usual but the film lacks any kind of suspense or narrative cohesion and Caroline Munro still can't act (although she's quite lovely to look at).
So in other words don't bother. |

| Isolation - Unrated | Good old-fashioned monster film from Ireland (with nods to Alien and The Thing) about man's continued meddeling with mother nature--this time cows and wind up with a genetic mutation that looks like something out of the imaginaton of HP Lovecraft as it has no discernable shape or symmetry. No CG, decent amounts of gory stuff, competent cast and a brief running time make it a welcome addition to the monster mayhem genre. | August 26, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Wait Until Dark - Unrated |
For a 1960's film it not only works well it is actually still suspenseful.
Audrey Hepburn and Alan Arkin turn out some wonderful performances, Richard Crenna makes for a likeable bad guy and the plot unfolds at a nice pace. A highly recommended top notch old school thriller. |

| Messengers 2: The Scarecrow - R |
"The Shining goes country." SCREEM MAGAZINE
Quite possibly the most accurate blurb ever. Supposely a prequel but completely goes against what The Messengers explains happens to the Rollins family. Instead this more than likely was an unused script Sony owned and since it involved a barn and a farmer they adapted it as a 'Messengers' film. Needless to say, it sucked. A slow, boring mess that never goes anywhere, borrows heavily from the aforementioned Shining and doesn't satisfy on any level. Well except a nicely gratuitous bare breasted scene. But other than that--zipola. |

| Knowing - PG-13 |
First half is a solid end of the world thriller (although crappy CG) but once the mysteries start wrapping up it quickly degenerates into complete absurdity.
Proyas has fallen along way down from Dark City. |

| Mutant Chronicles - R |
Nothing more than a bigger-budgeted Sci-Fi Ch-- excuse me, Syfy Channyl movie of the week. Had alot of potential but falls short in every catagory.
Wait for cable and when there's absolutely nothing else to watch. |

| The Last House on the Left - R |
I'm not a fan of the original so the idea of a remake didn't bother me and much like Black Christmas I was able to enjoy the "reimaginings" moreso. Not to say it's a great film but it makes for a thrilling revenge pic.
I take issue with the uncomfortably prolonged rape scene (the unrated version), a bone-headed move by the parents late in the game that had me yelling at the screen and a rather silly epilogue that doesn't gel with the rest of the film but doesnt ruin it for me either. Bottom line is if you weren't a fan of Craven's unlikeable sleazefest or havent seen it at all then it's worth a rental. Oh and one final thought: Dillahunt as Krug is okay but David Hess he ain't. |

| 17 Again - PG-13 |
I'm not proud but I watched it. I'm less proud because I liked it.
Thomas Lennon stole every scene he was in hence the extra half star. I'm too embarrassed to say anything else positive about this movie so I'll leave it at that. |

| District 9 - R |
Well done film that deftly balances sci-fi, action, drama and surprisingly, humor (albeit of the dark variety). Copley does a great job of playing the unlikley hero, the CG is fantastic and the sometimes unpredictable story moves along quickly.
Saw it a second time. Yay me. |

| Planes, Trains and Automobiles - R | Hughes strongest directorial effort as well as Martin's and especially Candy's best performances ever commited to film. A funny, heartwarming masterpiece. | August 13, 2009 | N/A | |||

30 years since its release and I finally got around to seeing it. Painfully 70s but still a mostly funny, surprisingly sweet camp movie.
I still prefer Stripes though. |

| Coraline - PG |
A modern day fairy tale that is an instant classic in my home and far superior to Nightmare Before Christmas in every way.
It is a little long but otherwise there's no complaints outta me whatsoever. |

| Simon Says - R |
Moron characters that you care about anyway a few minutes before they die, inventive kills, a high gory body count and a demented killer in the form of Crispin Glover.
THIS is how you make an entertaing slasher movie. |

| The Zombie Diaries - Unrated |
That's another one for the (pseudo-docu horror) fire.
It starts off slow yet strong but when night approaches the camera get shakier and the light sources suck (a weak flashlight or the "night vision" mode) which makes for annoying confusion. Oh well, at least the cute one survives this time. |

| 12 Rounds - PG-13 |
Goofy albeit well made, fast paced actioner with 80's sensibilities.
I somehow got the feeling I was watching an unused script for a Die Hard sequel though. |

Dumb stoner humor minus the cameos of the first.
I used to love Full Moon's stuff but Band has turned it into another Asylum/Sub Rosa/Brain Damage slum company. |
