"He was an honest man, and he didn't deserve any of what happened to him. "

'District 9' is one of the best movies I've seen this year.

Fuck it, I'll continue my review later...
The Day the Earth Stood Still The Day the Earth Stood Still PG-13
"I need to know what's happening?
- This planet is dying. The human race is killing it."

I call myself a movie fan but there's one thing (many, in fact) that I'm embarrassed about.. I haven't seen the 50's classic of 'The Day the Earth Stood Still'. Before writing this review, I had to check one thing. Although I haven't seen it, I remember that the original was about how the alien tried to guide the human race to the path of peace. This remake has an interesting version to bring out, the story has been changed from human warlike disposition to how we are destroying our planet by pollution. So a small update that is..

That's really the only interesting aspect of the movie. From what could've been a good "philosophical point of view of the modern days, turns out to be nothing but another disaster movie. For this movie to be a noteworthy sci-fi film, it fails to bring anything new to the genre, is way too boring and, like said earlier, doesn't bring out the polluting aspect up front like it should have been. It's mentioned briefly but then the film just concentrates on Klaatu running in / from various places...

Scott Derrickson directed earlier 'The Exorcism of Emily Rose'. I liked it and when I found out that he had made this film, I was a bit disappointed. Good potential wasted, for now that is. His next film, 'Paradise Lost' sounds interesting though...

The cast really doesn't know what they're doing. Keanu is being Keanu, that's no surprise, but Kathy Bates and Jennifer Connelly are seriously wrongly cast. I don't even wanna mention comedy legend John Cleese...

'The Day the Earth Stood Still' is a well-meaning film but it just gets lost on its way. Remakes are always dangerous things to do. So few have toped its predecessors ('The Thing', 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers' from '78). This film had potential by updating its idea of the story, but simply failed...

"Your problem is not technology. The problem is you. You lack the will to change.
- Then help us change."

I hate Nazis, can't tolerate those bastards, but after seeing this for the first time, I started to think that, there could be good people among them, who just are a part of those people cause they don't have anything else. This movie is a perfect portrayal of brotherly love and a man's journey to be freed from his past. I 've seen this way many times and still I'm just stunned. This is one of the best movies ever! Goddamn, I cry at the end!
